Welcome to Australia Zoo, started by Steve Irwin, better known around the world as the Crocodile Hunter.

It's open 'til late late tonight, so you've got lots of time to explore and enjoy.

The trains leave the city regularly, so you can hop on one whenever it's convenient and head on down.

[Thar be OCD on the horizon. Thar she blows!]

It's the first day of the Royal Exhibition! Come one, come all, ride the rides, eat fairy floss and dagwood dogs, corn on the cob on a stick and waffle tubes filled with cream. Sausage on a bun, butter sandwiches, chiko rolls, barbecue ribs - if it's chock full of bad for you Australian goodness, you'll likely find it here.

Finish your repast with a strawberry ice cream (the cone is filled with strawberry pieces, topped with strawberry ice cream, which is topped with cream, which is topped with a strawberry) as you wander through the exhibits (maybe picking up a pair of genuine Ugg boots), hit sideshow alley and win a giant teddy bear, visit the fresh food pavillion for delicious food and even better wine (lots of tasting and free samples), wander through the various animal barns and see the best of the best on display.

When you're done for the day, head on over to the Showbag Pavillion and load up on goodies, before you hop the train back to the city to snag a CityCat back to Fandom!

(Don't forget Brisbane's hottest Fireys will be on hand, selling calendars filled with shirtless firemen, all proceeds to benefit charity. And if you ask nicely, they'll even sign their photo.)

[ooc: SO MUCH OCD IS COMING UP! EKKA YAY!!]
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
Arrangements had been made for Fandom dwellers to get a great discount on the Story Bridge Climb, and there were three tours going out today: morning, afternoon, and night.

Get kitted up in your bright orange safety gear and your harness, and climb the bridge to experience spectacular 360 degree views of Brisbane and the surrounding area.

[ooc: YAY climb the bridge! Info here and official site here (thought it wasn't loading for me at all, stupid thing).]

While Dreamworld, the biggest and best amusement park on the Gold Coast, was normally only open during the day, every now and then they held 'Screamworld' at night. Tonight was one such night. The rides were powered up, the merchandise and food outlets were open, the flood lights were on and there was a live DJ near the Claw setting the scene with plenty of loud music.

Don't forget to pick up a park map or you can ask directions from a friendly staff member. Really, really friendly. They have to be friendly or they get fired.

Welcome to Dreamworld. So many worlds in one!

Brisbane Culture

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008 09:07 pm
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
Brisbane, no matter what Sydneyites or Melburnians might say to the contrary, actually had quite a nice slice of culture.

Museums and galleries were centred around South Bank, itself home to gardens, restaurants, and a man-made, self-contained beach.

[ooc: Just a few neat places to visit in Brisbane! As previously, you can use this post today, or make your own in your own LJs today or any other day! OCD is on it's way here.]
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
Tortuga was still just as piratey (and smelly) today as it had been yesterday. There was excitement to be had, famous pirates to meet, and any number of unpleasant misadventures to be avoided (or not, as the case might be).
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
Night time saw Tortuga completely transformed. There was drinking and fighting and rioting in the streets, rollicking and roaring and general boisterousness abounded!

Drinking and roistering! )

Plus more drinking!

Drinking and shooting and jeering! )

Have fun, and remember, the clinic carries a range of modern drugs that can cure those embarrassing ailments so common in these times. Really.

[MYO threads for night time adventures! Again, no dying and remember no NSFW stuff in community journals! Similar posts will go up tomorrow, as well, because the island doesn't return to modern times until Monday night. So even if you can't play today, you won't miss out.]

Tortuga, 1640 - day

Sunday, July 20th, 2008 07:06 pm
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
Tortuga was relatively quiet by day. Merchants plied their trade, and took advantage of most of the lawless element sleeping off their boisterous night. Taverns were still open, though, and many a pirate and mercenary roamed the streets, along with ordinary folk who kept the towns running.

Cut for image in which you totally don't recognise anyone at all. )

The docks, however, were always busy.

[MYO threads and adventure for those who want to explore! Just don't die, please. And I'm playing fast and loose with the screencaps - it was the closest I could get!]
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
The cruise ship was docked at Paradise Bay, a short walk from the end of Fandom's Causeway.

The Fandomites weren't the only ones being welcomed aboard -- in addition to the pre-existing passengers, members of the various research teams and those who worked in Paradise were joining in the festivities.

Once everyone was on board, the ship headed out to cruise around the various islands, glaciers, and ice formations, to return much later that night.

[Plz wait for OCD commence cruising.]

Bali Hai, Sunday

Sunday, June 15th, 2008 09:05 pm
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
Bali Hai was completely deserted. The locals, having experienced this many times before, had sealed their homes and shops, taken to boat, and left.

It's a deserted island. )

There wasn't a person to be found anywhere on the island.

[ooc: so people don't worry. Feel free to actually visit, though you'll get all ashy, or to handwave that you did so, to ensure characters who'd worry about Bali Hai's inhabitants can have that worry assuaged. Umm, pretend the picture is all volcanoy, please.]
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
In the late afternoon, a rickety old bus carried the Fandomites as far up the right-hand side volcano as they could go. After that, it was only a short hike up an easy, winding trail, then a quick trip over the rope bridge to the peak.

[ooc: Field trip up early for SP! Open to all, and assume handwavy IC knowledge.
Wait for the OCD
Aaaaand we have OCD!]
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
If you follow the winding trail from the beach into the rainforest, you'll find a broad clearing, loud with the cries, cheeps, and twitters of the tropical birdlife. For many years, locals and tourist alike have come here to feed them, to the point where the birds are the next thing to tame.

Vendor's stalls will sell you birdfeed, and when you venture into the centre of the clearing, the birds will descend, perching happily on your arms, shoulders, or the ground around your feet to be fed.

When you tire of that, look way up to the restaurant in the trees. A winding staircase carries you up up up into the tree tops. You can sit outside, or better yet, swing in one of the many hammocks, while your waitstaff brings you all manner of delicious drinks and delicacies.

Fed and watered (or something stronger), stroll along the boardwalks to enjoy a leisurely look at the rainforest.
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
It's an island in an ocean teeming with fish. Of course there's fishing! Oh fishy fishy fishy, woo. )

Once you catch your fishies, wander back and they'll fillet and cook it right before your eyes on an amazing stone barbecue, then serve it up to you in a banana leaf with some spicy wild rice. And yup, you eat with your fingers.
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
Islands aren't just for relaxing, they're for getting some action
not dirty
!

To that end, Bali Hai offers Wind surfing, para-sailing, and forest flying! )

Cool down in the water, up in the sky (they also have pairs para-sailing), or deep in the shadowed rain forest, where you can pull yourself leisurely along, getting a view of the diverse plants, animals, and birds far different than any from the ground.

[Whee, fun stuff today!]
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
Welcome to Bali Hai's most famous lagoon )

You can hire a pedal boat )

or swim into one of the many caves )

The water's warm and welcoming, there are plenty of secluded beaches for privacy, and the sprawling building has a bar, food, and anything else you might need.

[ooc: Today's Bali Hai post! I so want to go swimming in one of those caves.]
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
There was an impromptu festival going on over on Bali Hai. The beach was decked out with streamers and unlit torches, and the mood was definitely on the gleeful side of happy.

The Fandomites will be made welcome, directed down towards the water for those who want to feed the dolphins, or watch while others do. Those who are more interested in libations than aquatic mammals will find drinks and snacks aplenty up at the swing bar.

Later, once the sun sets, there will be a performance of the island's best fire dancers, before everyone wanders back to Fandom.

[ooc: Up early for SP!
Plz to be waiting for the OCD, thanks.
3...2...1...and we have OCD. ETA: Assume handwavy IC knowledge it's happening, and it's open to all!]

Bali Hai, all day

Thursday, June 5th, 2008 08:26 pm
[identity profile] cheminthehead.livejournal.com
On one of the many beaches is a one-stop-shop for island fun and adventure. The main building, which looks remarkably like a beach hut, only larger, hires out surf equipment and snorkelling gear.

And the the day is perfect for getting out into the ocean. )

Just past it a little ways is a stable where you can hire a horse for an hour or a day, and gallop on the beach.

Just like this! )

[ooc: You can play in this post, or use it as a jumping off point for your own posts, today or any other day!]
[identity profile] idontlooktired.livejournal.com
The bus travelled quickly, maybe more quickly that anyone expected, and was soon pulling into the town of Bayeux.

It's the first stop of what promises to be a very full day. Enjoy!

[ooc:
wait for the OCD, s'il vous plait
OCD up! Have at it.]
