Tortuga, 1640 - night

Night time saw Tortuga completely transformed. There was drinking and fighting and rioting in the streets, rollicking and roaring and general boisterousness abounded!

Plus more drinking!

Have fun, and remember, the clinic carries a range of modern drugs that can cure those embarrassing ailments so common in these times. Really.

[MYO threads for night time adventures! Again, no dying and remember no NSFW stuff in community journals! Similar posts will go up tomorrow, as well, because the island doesn't return to modern times until Monday night. So even if you can't play today, you won't miss out.]

If there was drinking and fighting and rioting in the streets, Logan was there.

Fifteen minutes after stepping onto the docks he had been stabbed three times, shot once, and left a trail of overconfident pirates on his way to the nearest bar.

It had been a good night so far.

Amber was a tad shocked to see the way things truly were here in the streets. Women's bosoms were falling out of their dresses, and they were almost nauseatingly drunk. The men as well.

They leered and called names at her, many of which she didn't recognize, and more and more were her cheeks stained red, her eyes wide.

"Oh... my... was that a... gunshot?"

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Liir recognized most of them. In fact, it felt more like the kind of language he was familiar with than the rest of Fandom.

"Probably," he told her with a faint smile. "Come along, I'll get us a seat."

He moved to tug her towards an empty table and tried to squeeze her hand reassuringly.

A seedy tavern

Amber stuck close to Liir even though really? She was a tad excited by all of everything she was seeing. "These people are real," she said in a loud whisper, above the din of noise. Truthfully, she might have just expected to see a bunch of actors trying to play pirates and wenches and buxom bar maids.

She sat down when he found them a table, her cheeks pink.

"They stink, they swear, they steal. They're as real as people get, and they know it. It makes them more real," he said as they settled down, his eyes on her to make sure she's all right.

He saw a server passing by with a few flagons on a board and he waved her for two. He got half a nod considered things handled.

"We'll be getting the house ale in a few minutes," he told her.

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"They do truly stink," she made a face. "Even the women. Does nobody believe in baths around here. Ew. Men are starin', Liir. At you too," she commented with a nod.

House ale. Mmm. "But I thought you don't drink?"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
"It's probably watered down to nearly nothing," he said. "It's like ordering water anywhere else. A man who wants to be drunk doesn't get himself the house ale."

He leaned closer.

"And no, people in my own world are also a bit more sparse with their bathing, but there's reason for it. Tubs aren't easy to find, and hot water isn't easy to make, and the whole of a bath is much more of a production to make.

"I'm spoiled too, honestly. It was something I had to get used to, though."

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Amber considered that. "Then we don't want house ale, Liir. That just sounds icky. Who wants watered down crap? Come on, let's try the real stuff!" She tried to look cute and bounced even in her seat.

"I would bathe in the ocean if I had to," she nodded, firmly. "I can't imagine not bein' clean." Glancing around again, she blinked at a rather large fella who was giving her the eye. And only one eye at that because the other had a patch over it. He smacked his lips and downed a tankard. "Ew."

She would try not to complain. "Music's nice, hmm?" she said, giving her attention back to Liir.

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Liir noticed, but wouldn't respond. After all, why start something when it wasn't necessary? As long as the man kept his distance...

Well, best not to provoke.

Instead, he turned to Amber.

"I'll stick to the house ale," he said. "You're welcome to get more. I'll watch to make sure I can still get you home."

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I want a tankard of..." she had no idea. "Just plain ale. And Liir," she leaned forward, leveling her gaze on him, "no one knows us here. Let's live a little! I want a real pirates drink!"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
No one knows us he thought to himself. They'll cut our throats and steal our money without a thought.

"We'll have that next," he assured her as the wench brought the first of the drinks. Two heavy wooden flagons with slopping, yellowish liquid that foamed at the edges but not much else.

Liir took his, sniffed it, and finally took a sip.

He put it back down again.

"See? Not so bad."

She chose to believe him.

The mug that was put before her looked funky but Amber was easily satisfied so she picked it up, sniffed at it, and took a sip.

Setting her mug down, she looked at Liir. "That's some nasty stuff. Why can't we have rum?"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"You are welcome to have rum," he told her. "Next round."

Hopefully, the water in this would prevent a hangover for her.

Amber raised her brows and drank her house ale, watching the room at large. She could be agreeable.

She didn't however, like a particular heavy-chested woman eyeballing, Liir. What did these people think they were? Meat? She stood up, frowned, and placed her hand on her hip. "Hey! Get your eyes back in your head lady!"

Re: A seedy tavern

He turned and looked to where Amber was directing herself and blinked. When he faced Amber again, he seemed confused.

"Was she eying my purse, lass?"

Something about the way things were... he was falling back into more Ozian speech patterns.

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Amber didn't look at him as she replied, she was still staring at that woman. "No. I think she was just eyeing you but don't worry; I'll take care of her if I need to."

She blinked, sat back down, and faced him. "...you have a purse?"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
He blushed again.

"Where I keep my coin," he said. "I've got it hidden on my person, hard to steal, but I'm assuming you saw it earlier."

He leaned back and took another sip on the house ale.

"Why would she be eyeing me?"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah," she replied and drank more ale even though it was icky and seriously, she just couldn't drink anymore. She shoved her mug towards the edge of the table.

"Why do you think, Liir? You're very attractive," she said with a scathing look towards that woman who now it seemed, had her eyes on someone new. "People are goin' to stare at you and can we have somethin' else to drink now? I'm thirsty," she said, reaching for a peanut from a bowl that was sitting center table.

"I'm a scrap of a thing and an easy mark," he pointed out skeptically. He knew the kind of scams and games a wench would play on someone too small and soon enough, too broke to do anything about it. He'd heard the arguments, after all. They'd always been shouted through the front or back door of the establishment in question.

He waved for the waitress (he'd think of her as such) again. He'd get her her rum and hope she found it equally unpleasant.

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm, hopefully not too easy," she half muttered to herself as she crossed her legs, swinging one booted foot.

"Maybe we could dance?"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
He looked around for an open spot before offering his hand.

"Would the lady join me?"

There were a few jibs and jeers at his phrasing, but Liir ignored them.

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
So did Amber, but mostly because she didn't get them. Grinning, she rose and took his hand. "I haven't danced with anyone for a long time, so just bare with me!"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't have the first idea what he was going to do, considering that the only dances he knew involved being waltzes and they were exactly the wrong kind of thing to do here and to this music. There were some of the more tribal dances of the Arjiki which he'd been witness to, but anything else would be a guess what he'd seen from the silhouetted figures in the windows of the Emerald City's taverns.

"You're a better dancer," he pointed out. "Bear with me!"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
It didn't matter what kind of dance they did, Amber simply moved along with the loud, blaring music, lauging and holding to Liir's hand, swinging around and swishing her skirts.

"What fun!" she exclaimed, head tilted back as she laughed, squeezing his hand gently.

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
His steps were a little inexact, which told him that the house ale was having an effect on him, but he figured that if he could notice it that it wasn't that much of an effect.

Either way, he was having fun with Amber and he focused on that.

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
But after a while, dancing did tend to take one's breath and she attempted to pull Liir with her towards their table so they could replenish themselves before taking the floor once again. "Thirsty," she said, leaning in close enough to him so that he could hear her.

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
The waitress came by at that point, a lucky turn of events, and he put in an order for, hell, two orders of rum and another found of house ale.

"For your thirst, hmm?"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Mhm," she grinned and picked up a mug and handed it to him, not sure which was which but did it really matter? Amber didn't think so. She picked up another mug full of rum and drank thirstily, cringing only a little when she pulled it back from her lips.

"Oooh, that is... wow."

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thick and dark, the rum was sweet but also heavy. He drank down a good gulp of it as he studied the taste and the texture before realizing what he'd done.

"Yes, I suppose 'wow' is a good part of... yeah."

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Amber giggled and took another drink. "We're drinkin' pirate rum, Liir!" And yes, she found this so utterly exciting.

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
He found this eminently worrying but that didn't stop him from taking another sip. There was some note of flavor he was interested in...

He should have remembered that he'd already put his supplies of rum, brandy, madiera, and a few other items he'd bought back in his room, but his mind was already somewhat addled.

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
She smiled up at him and feeling giddy, reached to take his hand in hers. "Want to dance some more?"

Re: A seedy tavern

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
He nodded readily and stood again, his head a little wobbly and his thoughts entirely tipsy.

Amber was feeling pretty good herself and she giggled, hiccuping behind her hand as she twirled around. "Whooooooa, spinny!"
