Field trip to Normandy, All day Friday

The bus travelled quickly, maybe more quickly that anyone expected, and was soon pulling into the town of Bayeux.

It's the first stop of what promises to be a very full day. Enjoy!

Bayeux Tapestry Museum

It was the first human artifact G'Kar had ever seen with his own eyes. The fact that it was beautifully handstiched was even more intriguing. He walked along its length, jotting down notes in a fresh, blank journal he'd brought specifically for the day. It wouldn't remain blank for very long.

Ella glanced at G'Kar out of the corner of one eye as she walked along the tapestry. She was fairly sure he'd come from Fandom with the group, and it wasn't as though he was easily mistaken for another.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" she asked quietly.

Le Labyrinthe de Bayeux

Uh. A maze of corn. Amber really hoped she could find her way out but oh my gosh a labyrinthe! How cool is that?

Good thing she had her handy-dandy French dictionary. Just too bad her pronounciation sucked.

Le p'tit train de Bayeux

Hoshi opted for a ride on the little train so she could get a better look at the older parts of the city.

This was definitely different than what Jaina had seen before, so it was worth checking out. Don't ask why she ended up going to a castle. It had just seemed like the most interesting thing to explore.

Somehow, Jaye ended up at the souvenir shop. She had no idea why. Maybe she was just looking for tacky or something.

Brooke had been sort of disappointed in the shopping here. She'd hoped the designer stuff ventured outside of Paris now and then. But ooh, the Blue Shop had accessories. And it wouldn't be wrong to check out some of the French fabrics, right?

Musee Baron Gerard

Naomi was definitely interested in having a look at some of the art and history in Bayeux, so that's where she had gone to have a look.

Bayeux Cathedral

[identity profile] offthelisthero.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Avoiding the scheduled tours, Mohinder ducked into the cathedral. The high-vaulted ceiling spanned above his head as he walked down the central aisle, resisting the urge to call out in search off an echo.

Ella didn't know anything about the history of this world, so she opted for the guided tour.

It all made her sad and thoughtful.

Lee wandered into Arromanaches and surprised himself by how much the material and content interested him.

As she walked around the Hall of Allied Nations in the museum, Hoshi reflected on how strange it was to see all these individual countries with separate governments. The Earth she knew had one planetary governing body.

While the beach was not exactly what John was expecting, he kept himself entertained wandering through museums and memorials. There were just fewer naps involved.

Knowing a little about the history here, Jaina had expected to be more affected by the beaches and memorials than she was, considering how many people she had known that had died in the war back home. Instead she just sort of switched off, and didn't think to wonder if there was anything wrong with that.

After the tour, Ella was happier to have some lighter entertainment. She got some mussels and a piece of crusty bread, and sat at a picnic table to devour them.

Hoshi practiced speaking to the locals in French. A nice older couple recommended a local specialty to try for dinner.

G'Kar found a nice out of the way place to eat. He got a few odd looks from the staff, he told them he was part of an acting troupe. They seemed to accept it, but still kept their distance.

He also had picked up several bottles of wine. Those would be put away for later use.

His attention caught by some toys in the market - a brief search for a bureau de change - and a little later Mohinder was crouched by a fairly smooth, empty pavement.

A twist of fingers and cord sent one top running into another, Mohinder counting, under his breath, the seconds tell it fell.
