Field trip to Normandy, All day Friday

The bus travelled quickly, maybe more quickly that anyone expected, and was soon pulling into the town of Bayeux.

It's the first stop of what promises to be a very full day. Enjoy!

Ella didn't know anything about the history of this world, so she opted for the guided tour.

It all made her sad and thoughtful.

Lee wandered into Arromanaches and surprised himself by how much the material and content interested him.

As she walked around the Hall of Allied Nations in the museum, Hoshi reflected on how strange it was to see all these individual countries with separate governments. The Earth she knew had one planetary governing body.

While the beach was not exactly what John was expecting, he kept himself entertained wandering through museums and memorials. There were just fewer naps involved.

Gavin hadn't been following John but he had seemed to be in the same places as John. So, when John's back was turned, he found a pebble on the ground and chucked it at John's shoulder before ducking behind one of the memorials.

Throwing pebbles at a very serious memorial was just plain rude. John wondered where Gavin had run off to.

Yes, he was going to get him back.

Gavin so wasn't going to peek out that quickly. He'd been trained, after all. So, he just stayed hidden and looked from left to right to make sure John couldn't sneak up on him.

Whistling a jaunty tune, John wandered around the memorials, pretending he was oblivious to Gavin's attack while he tried to find him.

Gavin stealthily crept around memorials, peeking out to see if he could see where John had walked to but losing him a few times.

Thinking he was pretty crafty, John paused to pretend to read one of the markers and got himself lost in a crowd moving back the way he'd came.

Knowing a little about the history here, Jaina had expected to be more affected by the beaches and memorials than she was, considering how many people she had known that had died in the war back home. Instead she just sort of switched off, and didn't think to wonder if there was anything wrong with that.

Coming across Jaina at some point, John did a visual check before speaking. Just in case. "This is not a beach. This is a depressing history lesson."

"The Mexico beach drinks would probably make it easier to handle," she admitted.

"And we really don't want to do that," Jaina said. "What do you think? Are you learning a lot?"

"A bit," he shrugged. "I dunno. It was an important part of a big war here." If only he was capable of just sharing how it made him feel. Being mostly sadness and a hint of fear.

"I only know some of the history, but it definitely feels important," she said. And whether it was some sort of residual thing about this place, or just something she was picking up from everyone else around here, she'd dealt with it for about ten seconds.

Toby had worn a shirt on the field trip, but it was unbuttoned and flapping in the breeze in honor of those who had died. Walking through a souvenir shop, he caught a tall, dark French dude staring him down. The dude bit his lip and Toby noticed the outline of something interesting as the guy adjusted his crotch. Intrigued and admittedly horny from going without for almost a week, Toby followed the dude into the public toilet.

Gwen was thoughtful as she wandered through the museums, keeping an eye out for a familiar face in any photos she passed.

Cal decided that a nice, quiet, reflective stroll through the memorials was a good way for him to pass the time; he liked to think that, somehow, on some level, while Milton had never technically known this son thinking about him as he passed through thoughtfully, he was still somewhat proud.

Amber explored the museums and memorials, lost in her own little world as she walked along.
