The Copacabana Hotel was certainly... statuesque. The front facade stood high and formal in the middle of lovely Rio, though, like a mullet, all the fun was in the back - at the beachside, where fun and sun would be waiting come tomorrow.

The Fandom contingent had managed to get their hands on some beachside rooms, though it was probably best not to ask who or what had made this much money change hands. Because it wasn't like anyone running this gig had any interesting off-shore accounts...

The deluxe beach view rooms have stunning views of the world-famous Copacabana Beach. The adults' rooms even feature Juliet-style balconies! All have king or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms which feature a tub with shower, air conditioning and high-speed internet for those students who would get twitchy without it. Peter.

So far, upon arrival, Peter had done three things: 1) put his bags down; 2) set up his laptop, and 3) gone back into the hallway to find a soda machine, because he was thirsty.

He had stared at his options for a few moments before deciding that, well, if he was going to be in a foreign country, he might as well get the local soft drink. At least he'd be able to say he was getting into the culture of the place.

So he bought a can of Guarana and headed back into his room, where he sat down behind his laptop, opened the can, and got back to work.

Well, naturally Bruce ended up rooming with one of the very nice girls whose acquaintance he'd made last week. As Bruce settled in, he decided to try having positive thoughts that it wouldn't get too awkward. But he was also pragmatic and chose the bed by the window in case he needed to make a fast escape.

In the end, she went with her own, on the theory it would be easier to move herself than to move all her stuff. Cassidy was a witch; hopefully the girl wouldn't be too weirded out by the entire situation.

As far as Quinn was concerned, the room assignments had to be a bad joke. Because clearly no one would actually expect her and Rebecca to share a space. She shouldn't be punished this way just because she had forgotten to get in a room request.

She claimed the bed closer to the windows, hoping to make the best of it. She could be mature about this. And if Rebecca a) actually showed up and b)couldn't ... well, Quinn hoped Jack and Puck wouldn't mind a third roommate for the week.

For a kid who has never been outside of New York, Matt couldn't help but be in awe of the experience.

When she got to the room, she even decided she was going to cut out all confusion and got some notepaper from the desk, scrawled ANNIE on it with a smiley face, and pinned it to her shirt.

By the time Ryan lugged her suitcase to her room, she was panting like she had just run a marathon. Carrying heavy loads was something that doctor had warned her to avoid when they diagnosed her last year. But carrying her own suitcase was just Ryan's way of maintaining the appearance of a normal, healthy teenager.

For now, Ryan was going to collapse on the nearest bed and rest until her lungs no longer felt like they were going to burst.

The first thing Dany did when she arrived in her room was open her crate and let the dragons out to sniff out the room. She found an extra pillow and some towels to make them a little bed in the corner, though none of them seemed tired yet.

With that accomplished, and her dragon-mothering concerns allayed, she opened the drapes to take in the view, and flung herself down on the nearest bed. She'd needed this. Oh, how she had needed it.

Rio de Janeiro - Samba Parade

This is the highlight of the Rio Carnival, the must-see show which has made Rio de Janeiro the Carnival capital of the world. The samba schools belonging to this group are especially magnificent and sumptuous, and the two nights are similar in terms of set-up: six of the 12 best samba schools march on both Sunday and Monday. Doors open to the Sambodrome at 1700, opening ceremony's at 2000, and the parade starts at 2100. You can even buy costumes and march with one of the schools in the parade. After the parade's over, the action spills into the street where thousands of people who didn't have tickets to the parade turn the area into the world's biggest open-air bar.

I'm laughing over here since Peter's drink of choice is also the bottling factory where Bruce worked. So hopefully Peter didn't get gamma radiation poisoning instead of Stan Lee.
