Copacabana Palace, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday Afternoon and Evening

The Copacabana Hotel was certainly... statuesque. The front facade stood high and formal in the middle of lovely Rio, though, like a mullet, all the fun was in the back - at the beachside, where fun and sun would be waiting come tomorrow.

The Fandom contingent had managed to get their hands on some beachside rooms, though it was probably best not to ask who or what had made this much money change hands. Because it wasn't like anyone running this gig had any interesting off-shore accounts...

Funny. Ender thought a little thinking about things was good for the soul.

Then again, Ender tended to take 'thinking about things' to the furthest possible extreme... "Ah," he said, "so we're planning a full-on rush on the carnival."

"Maybe tomorrow," Ben said. "I think it'd be weird to go down with people not wearing their correct selves."

He paused and frowned.

"That was a weird sentence."

"I think weird suits our current predicament," Ender said dryly. "I've just spent at least an hour back in Fandom listening to Topher and Karla insult each other."

"No wonder you look a little frayed at the edges," Ben said, kissing his cheek. "Tell me about it?"

"There's not much to tell," Ender said. "They both panicked when they woke up that way on Saturday, Topher tried to run away, Karla yelled, there was a minor scuffle... now Karla goes into spasms and starts shouting when it comes up, while Topher seems to be mostly kicking the floor while calling her names."

He released a breath.

"If it wasn't so terribly unproductive and would likely end in death," he said, "I'd be inclined to just lock them in a room together and tell them they're not getting out until they start acting like adults."

Ben nodded, making a face. "It's not like Topher woke up looking like Warren on purpose," he said, "but I wouldn't react well if you'd been someone else, either."

"Good thing this one skipped us, then," Ender said. "You needed your sleep."

Ben's cheeks went pink. "Maybe," he admitted. "It was a busy week."

Ender kissed him on the cheek, because he kind of had to.

"Any chance of you venturing outside these walls without the Jedi get-up this week?" he said. "I... talked to Karla about what's gone on with you."

Ben rested his head on Ender's shoulder. "What did she say?" he asked, choosing not to address Ender's question just yet.

"That it might be rough going, especially since you had bacta treatment," Ender said, and wrapped his arm around Ben. "That it might take a couple of treatments. But she's willing to try."

Ben blew out a breath. "Rough going isn't going to bother me," he said softly. And he'd make that be true through sheer willpower.

"I know." Ender gave him a squeeze. "We'll have to talk to her about when and where soon."

Like he wasn't going to be there for that.

"Sooner is better than later," Ben said. "I don't want to ruin a vacation with this."

"If this bodyswap has worn off, she'll probably be in a better mood," Ben agreed.

"Much," Ender said. He reached up and ruffled Ben's hair. "But please, no more full-on robes. It'd be awkward if you wound up cooked."

Ben nodded. "I was being a little ridiculous," he admitted softly.

But the Jedi robes were comfortable and he'd needed the comfort. He just wasn't prepared to admit that.

Ender smiled. "It's okay," he said, "Be as ridiculous as you want. I just missed your face. Sad as that sounds."

"Oh, it's a tragedy," Ender assured him, and cupped his cheek.

"Love you a lot, too," Ender said, kissing him a second time before dropping his hand. "Want me to see how quiet the pool is at night?"

So Ben could get in a swim, too.
