Copacabana Palace, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday Afternoon and Evening

The Copacabana Hotel was certainly... statuesque. The front facade stood high and formal in the middle of lovely Rio, though, like a mullet, all the fun was in the back - at the beachside, where fun and sun would be waiting come tomorrow.

The Fandom contingent had managed to get their hands on some beachside rooms, though it was probably best not to ask who or what had made this much money change hands. Because it wasn't like anyone running this gig had any interesting off-shore accounts...

Billy nodded, frowning in sympathy. "Yeah, nothing's wrong with me. I see you survived waking up with Karla. I ran into you--Warren yesterday."

"Oh," Topher said, flopping down on the bed with more dramatic flair than might have been expected. "That. Yeah. Ugh, she sucks." Whine away, Topher. WHINE AWAY.

"I'm sorry," Billy said, keeping himself on his own bed for now. "At least you know where your body is? There's got to be a way to fix this."

Topher shrugged. While being all... flopped the bed. Like a whiny emo kid. "Uuuuuuuuuugh," he whined.

"Hey, it could be worse. You could be in a girl's body?" Billy said, wondering belatedly if that would help. "I mean, at least Warren's a guy. A hot guy even."

"And his wings are cool," Topher granted in a mumble. "I flew with them yesterday. Kind of awesome." He rolled over onto his back, staring up at the ceiling. "But now Karla's gonna try to kill me again and ugh."

Topher, you huge damn drama queen.

"Why is Karla going to try to kill you? It's not like you asked for this to happen. Uh, right?" Billy asked, honestly not sure now that he thought about it.

"Right!" Topher exclaimed, scrambling to sit up and face Billy now. "It wasn't my fault but I woke up in her bed all Warreny and naked and I went to, like, hide, but then she was chasing me and throwing things at my head and blasting water on me and throwing me with magic, and now she's going to try and poison me or something again and I didn't even do anything!"

"Topher, why would she poison you? If she does that, won't she end up hurting Warren's body?" Shhh, yes, he was trying to apply logic here, in the hope that it would calm Topher down.

"Tried to before," Topher mumbled, glancing away.

Yes, Billy. Hear ALL THE TRAUMA. Misinterpreted as it may be.

"Wait, wait, she tried to poison you already?" Billy asked, going over to sit on Topher's bed. "When? Are you all right?"

"Yeah, it was... like, November, I think?" he guessed. "Right before D&D, with the... hitting. She was all mad at me for... things." He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, not meeting Billy's eyes. "And was all, 'if you do it again, I'll poison you and magic into your mind so I know how to torture you,' or something."

Billy frowned and put his hand on Topher's shoulder. "She won't do it again. Whatever happened before, this is different. I mean, this hasn't happened to you before so...it's just different. She can't blame you for this."

"She threw stuff at my head," Topher reminded him. Then twitched. "And, like, screamed at me. So I think she blamed me a lot."

"Was this maybe right after she learned what happened? When she still didn't understand?" Billy asked.

"Yeeees?" Topher admitted. "But also she yelled to Ender about me, I think."

"Is Ender okay, or did something weird happen to him too?" Billy asked, rubbing Topher's arm, which was just weird when it was Warren, but he wasn't going to say that. "I won't let Karla mess with you, I promise."

And Topher... wasn't flinching away, which was strange because touching was weird and it was Billy and that was weird and... yeah. Weird.

"Um," he said, blushing a little as his mouth quirked up in his first almost-smile of the day. "Thanks."

Long pause. Complete with a lingering look, even.

The blushing just wasn't the same when it wasn't Topher's face looking at him, but Billy would take that for now. "You're welcome. Try to relax, okay? We can hide out in here, and see if this goes away soon. We've got all week to check out the boat, right?"

"Yeah," Topher agreed quickly. "Um. I have movies and video games and stuff for while we're here, if you want? I was gonna hang out and play stuff today anyway, so..."

"That sounds like an awesome way to start vacation," Billy said in support. And if it gave him time to think about what he'd asked Warren yesterday, well, that was a bonus.
