Copacabana Palace, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday Afternoon and Evening

The Copacabana Hotel was certainly... statuesque. The front facade stood high and formal in the middle of lovely Rio, though, like a mullet, all the fun was in the back - at the beachside, where fun and sun would be waiting come tomorrow.

The Fandom contingent had managed to get their hands on some beachside rooms, though it was probably best not to ask who or what had made this much money change hands. Because it wasn't like anyone running this gig had any interesting off-shore accounts...

"Clearly, that was his first mistake," Bruce said.

He wasn't concerned about chains, anyway. He had enough lock picks hidden on him that he could get out of that without any issue.

It was almost adorable the way he assumed he wouldn't be searched for picks, or left enough clothes to hide them in, not that Cara'd exactly mind watching him try to get out.

"No, his first mistake was not listening to me." Richard made that mistake far too often for her liking, it'd get him killed...again.

Like he hid all of his picks in his clothes. ...What?

"Okay, his second mistake," Bruce said.

Point for ingenuity, but he would have to be able to reach those hiding places while dangling from the ceiling by his wrists. Though if he could, Cara really wouldn't mind watching that.

"We did actually have a reason for being there. Just not the usual one."

First off, he could. Second, mind out of the gutter. He often hid one orally if there was a chance he'd need it.

"Color me surprised. I imagine you were trying to break up whatever the inhabitants were doing on the side?" Classy way to say 'hookers' there, Bruce.

What? She wanted to watch out of professional curiosity. That in this hypothetical scenario Bruce was half-naked, tied up, and demonstrating his flexibility was purely coincidental. Purely.

"They were planning a coup." Not that Richard had helped by getting himself killed and body-snatched, and he wondered why she didn't want to let him wander off by himself any more. "Turns out it's remarkably easy to bait a trap for generals with whores. Whoever would have guessed?"

Replace 'half-naked' with 'wearing spandex-like body armor' and you had his entire future.

"Sounds like a pretty ingenious plan," Bruce said. "Until they were inevitably found out, of course. It would have to get suspicious eventually."

Oh, like spandex actually hid anything.

"Their leader intended on replacing the heir to the throne with her own puppet and ruling through him." Hence the body-snatching. Which never would have been an option if someone had claimed his throne already, Richard.

"At least then she'd hopefully drop the brothel charade," Bruce mused. "If she were ruling the kingdom, hopefully she'd have better things to do."

"Still, it's better that you thwarted her, obviously."
wrongkindofsith: (Oh no. We're all about to die horribly.)

Cara rolled her eyes. "Like Denna could actually run a country. Some days I wonder how she even managed a temple." Not that she had long-held opinions about her or anything.

"Well, if she was also running a brothel, I'd suggest that she knew how to keep people happy," Bruce said.

Did Cara say anything about Denna's ability to run a brothel?

"She wasn't running it at the same time." Not unless she'd have wanted to be laughed out of the Mord'Sith. "And there's a difference between making people happy and peddling in flesh."

"But you're making the mistake of assuming Denna was capable of doing it right." Again, no history there, nope, none.

Hey, look, Bruce, you made Cara laugh. Enjoy the moment, who knows when you'll see it again.

"Sorry," Cara said, once she'd managed to rein her laughter in. "But if you'd ever met her, you'd understand."

"I wouldn't worry about that." Since she'd fallen off a cliff right after Cara had shot her and all. "Besides, why would you need to, I know everything she did and I'm better at it," she added in the same tone she'd use for saying the sky was blue.

Re: Rio de Janeiro - Bar Luiz

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2012-02-20 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
It was for the best that she never mention that to Bruce. "Modest, as always," Bruce teased.

It's not like she'd used a gun, and it wasn't like Denna hadn't deserved it.

"If you're not trying to make people underestimate you, why pretend I'm not proud of my skills," Cara said, and made a show of examining her nails, you know the ones currently covered by her gloves. "Though if you don't believe me I suppose I could find some way to prove it to you."

Which would be terrible, just terrible.

This was Mr Killing Is Never An Option, of course.

Cara had held that view once. When she was nine. Bruce didn't want to know where it had gotten her.

"Oh, I'm sure you've thought long and hard about them," she teased.

Re: Rio de Janeiro - Bar Luiz

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2012-02-20 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Strangely, it was a view that solidified for Bruce when he was eight.

"Not too long. That would be tacky," Bruce said, sidestepping whatever it was she was suggesting, surely he didn't know.
