Copacabana Palace, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday Afternoon and Evening

The Copacabana Hotel was certainly... statuesque. The front facade stood high and formal in the middle of lovely Rio, though, like a mullet, all the fun was in the back - at the beachside, where fun and sun would be waiting come tomorrow.

The Fandom contingent had managed to get their hands on some beachside rooms, though it was probably best not to ask who or what had made this much money change hands. Because it wasn't like anyone running this gig had any interesting off-shore accounts...

"Only in trying to remember what is a shelled-fish and what is not!" Surreal replied with a lopsided grin. "So I am skipping anything with fish since I do not speak the language, just to be safe."

"Any problems with mine?" Besides, you know, dressing it like a hippie.

Tara shook her head. "I never noticed your ears were pointy before," she said, then got self-conscious. "I mean ... I just think it's pretty."

"I usually style my hair to hide them," Surreal confessed, "-although I've been getting sloppy about that lately. It's not a common feature where I'm from, and I don't like the stares."

"I don't think it's common anywhere," Tara said thoughtfully, one finger tracing the contour. "Um. Elves in stories, that's all I can think of. I get why you pull your hair over."

"The only other time I've seen ears like mine was my mother," Surreal confessed. "--What's an elveses?"

"A magical race who lives in a forest," Tara said, realizing it sounded childish. "Um, some myths say they're teeny, but that mostly seems to be people trying to make them ..... you know. Cute. In the original stories they're regular size and can be pretty mean."

Someday, Surreal would find her mother's people and look back on this conversation and laugh until she cried.

"Titian was regular sized, and was not someone you wanted to cross," Surreal offered. "I never saw a forest until I went to Fandom, however, so I doubt I'm an elf."

"Maybe I'm one, if the forest is what it takes," Tara half-laughed. "I grey up in the middle of nowhere."

She stole a roll from the basket on the table. "Titian was your mom's name? That's pretty."
