Hope you weren't too hungover from any time-honored partying that may have happened on Wednesday night, because Thursday was a new day with new experiences eagerly waiting for their... experiencers.

Look, it was another great day in Barbados, was the point!

It was a beautiful day on Barbados, and the sea looked especially inviting. Who didn't want to enjoy a February vacation in paradise? Truly?

Had enough for the day? Of course not, there was still a whole evening to enjoy!

The weather was also continuing to behave itself absolutely perfectly, so nothing was getting in the way of the Fandomites having fun.

Another wonderful day was beginning in Barbados, and Tuesday morning was definitely still early on enough in the break week for any thoughts of returning home to be staying far, far away.

So what were you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy it! Or stay in and enjoy it, we're not the boss of you.

There was a slight temperature difference as Fandom arrived in Barbados, as sunny skies and 82-degree weather greeted them for the start of spring break. It was time to check in, get settled, and explore!

It was a little chilly for the final morning of the trip, but that just meant putting in a little extra effort to make the most of the time that was left! There was still plenty of fun to be had before heading home.

Temperatures continued to fall very gently, though not yet far enough to inspire snow. It was perfect weather to roam around in your warm clothes, though, as the trip slowly lumbered towards its end.

Québec City woke up to the same crisp temperatures it had known all week. Surely you were all used to it by now? Prepared? All decked out?

The cobblestone streets flooded with people as the morning wore on, inviting you all to put your best shoes on and wander through the beautiful city. There was still plenty to do, and plenty to see.

Rumor had it there was a big room party happening on Wednesday night, but there were also still options for those looking for something a little more private to do, or just less party-minded.

The weather was mostly behaving as well, although perhaps with a light, refreshing sprinkling of rain here and there.

Halfway through the trip, people, try not to miss out on any Québécois fun!
bigdamnprincipal: (zzz: quebec)

The weather was a little cooler and cloudier today, but that just meant it was really time to break out those fashionable hats and scarves!

Okay, maybe only whatever scarves you all brought are fashionable, but some of you are annoying and can make any item of clothing work, so just make sure you're bundled safely. We're only halfway through the week and there's still so much to do!

Well, it was another gorgeous autumn day today, so there was no excuse to stay inside, unless your bed had eaten you or something. Even then, it was time to dig yourself out of those covers. There were museums to see and food to eat and people to annoy with bad attempts at French!

It was a sunny, perfect day today. You might not even need your trapper hats! As a bonus, the school had rented a double-decker Hop On Hop Off bus so you could accidentally leave them there! Do not throw them from the bus. People would yell at you in French and English.

Rise and shine, Fandom! Or hide in your ridiculous rooms throughout the castle! Anakin doesn't care enough to find you all.

It was a perfectly crisp autumn afternoon when Fandom arrived at the literal castle they would be checking into for their stay in Québec. The portal trip had been blessedly without complications and Anakin was holding the buffalo check trapper hat that the Portalocity gnomes insisted came free with every trip to Canada under his arm. He'd be trying to lose it later, but everyone else could do what they liked with their hats.

"Check into your rooms," he said, gesturing to the front desk, "and then you may do some quiet and polite exploring of the city this evening. I expect to see you in the lobby bright and early tomorrow for breakfast and then some educational tours! You too, teachers."

Or just avoid eye contact with the dean and enjoy your trip!

Well, with the Springtime Winds Hotel left crumbling behind you, even the most ardently opposed to theme parks are required to head up to the Astrotorium and into the new hotel. Yeah, it's pretty obvious that tonight is the last night in the Springtime Winds Hotel. Despite the valiant efforts of the day, there's no saving this beautiful resort. But that's no reason to be sad! Well, unless you really like luxury, comfort, peace, and quiet, in which case, yeah, there are several reasons to be sad. Either way, you might as well enjoy one last night of it, and Anakin will not be listening to your complaints.

Good morning, fine Fandom denizens! Can you believe it's only your second full day of vacation? And you've already gotten to experience so many things! Granted, many of those things were at least slightly traumatic, most of them were unsettling, and several of them might have already triggered the Astrotorium's 'long-term chemical exposure' waiver, but that's what vacation is all about, isn't it?

New faces, new friends, new experiences. So up and at 'em, folks! There's still so much to do!
heroic_jawline: (x spring break hallowed fountain)
[personal profile] heroic_jawline
Things sure are continuing to happen! If you're choosing to spend your time at the hotel, you can watch it fall apart in real time. If you're choosing to spend your time at the Astrotorium, you also get to watch it fall apart in real time, but there are people scrambling to repair it! Mostly. Usually. Like a good 63% of the time.

Look, Truss was doing her best, but there's only so much you can do when one of the Astrotorium's mottos was "Safety twelfth."

Well, if you were worried that the events of last night were just a bad dream, boy do we have great news for you! They sure weren't! There's so much to do and see and explore! Grab your wallets, your room keys, your wallets just in case you missed it the first time, your most comfortable shoes, and, most importantly, your wallets, and head out to the glowing transportation beacon to start your day of fun and imagination!

Whatever the Fandom folks might have been expecting when they escaped a hotel that had finished its foundation-shaking trembling and had, instead, started listing to one side like a ship taking on water was probably not what they were greeted with when they made it outside.

The hotel and its grounds were in absolute shambles - okay that part was probably expected - with giant hunks of twisted metal and melted debris littering the area, palm trees lying bent or even broken, the gravity-defying rocks from the Floating Rock Zone toppled over by one of the water slides, now damming up that section of waterway. However, what had caused all this chaos and destruction was not any kind of natural disaster. No, what they saw when they came pouring out of the hotel was a...flying amusement park?

Well, more specifically, the series of interconnected flying spaceships painted in garish colors that resembled some kind of futuristic-yet-oddly-retro outer space carnival. Calliope music was pumping through speakers, along with cheerful voices exhorting people to "hold on and have fun!" as well as reminding them that bringing squirrels, gremlins, rats, or beebles into the park was "an intergalactic felony punishable by no fewer than two (2) hours of listening to Captain Nebula talk about himself" and that Elesh Norn's Flawless Machine had been damaged in the crash and would be closed for repairs just as soon as "all the current riders have been rescued or fully completed." Above them floated what might have been taken for some kind of asteroid field, save for the smell. It was, in fact, an orbiting trash belt and apparently most of what had slammed into the island of Springtime Winds.

The trip from Portalocity Fandom was surprisingly smooth--no layovers in worlds without shrimp, nothing where everyone was trapped in Endless Toledo...Anakin was suspicious already. But never mind that!

Welcome to Springtime Winds Island, private island and beautiful tropical paradise! While the Springtime Winds Hotel is at the heart, the entire island is owned by the resort. A shuttle leaves every twenty minutes, bringing guests to the island's model beach town, full of charming little bistros, trendy boutiques, and delicious restaurants. The last shuttle returns to the hotel at 10 PM to give the employees in town time to clean up and catch the ferry back to their own island homes away from tourists.

There's plenty to keep you entertained and occupied for the entire week you're here, so settle in and get a head start on all that relaxing and fun you're going to have!

We're catching the portal out of Auckland again, so we leave Queenland veeeeeeeeeeeery early to give you a last bit of time to explore however you like. Spend time in the Viaduct Harbour or take the ferry to nearby Waiheke Island for gourmet food and wine experiences. Walk (if you're that way inclined) to the top of Auckland's highest volcano, Mt Eden, and take in soaring views of the gulf, or head up the famous Sky Tower, standing at just over 1,000 feet tall (328 m). We head back to Fandom after lunch, so make your excursions on the short side.

Any trip to New Zealand should include a visit to the spectacular world-famous Milford Sound. The Fly-Cruise-Fly option from Queenstown takes you to the heart of the Fiordland region and back in half a day. Your scenic flight from Queenstown will soar over the rugged backcountry of Central Otago, alpine lakes, lush rainforest, rugged snow-capped mountains, and glacially carved valleys of Milford Sound and Fiordland National Park.

Once at Milford Sound, board an intimate and immersive two-hour cruise and simply relax while taking in Mitre Peak, cascading waterfalls, towering cliffs, and native animals. Passengers often spot seals basking in the sun, dolphins leaping, and sometimes the rare Fiordland crested penguins.

This evening will be a memorable one as you soak up the night sky while immersed in an Onsen hot pool. Set high into a cliff-side, each private pool overlooks the magnificent Shotover River Canyon. Here the experience is all about unwinding and soaking up Queenstown's spectacular scenery, enjoying the pure waters and the fresh mountain air as your mind and body surrender to the deep warmth and gentle massage of the private pools. The natural pools are usually between 100°F (38°C) on a hot day to 104°F (40°C) during a snow-storm. If you're not interested in going to the onsen, there's plenty to do in Queenstown on your own, too!

Today we're heading to beautiful Queenstown where we'll spend the rest of our trip. Known as the world's adventure capital, this small lakeside town with humble Gold Rush roots is now famous for its huge range of adrenaline-pumping adventures and outdoor activities such as skiing and hiking. But there's more to Queenstown than extreme sports. Soak in natural hot water pools, spend the day tasting Central Otago wines (if you're old enough), or take a scenic cruise on Lake Wakatipu aboard the TSS Earnslaw steamship.

Get set for a big day in Rotorua!

Start at Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, a spectacular showcase of New Zealand's most colorful and unique geothermal elements sculpted by thousands of years of volcanic activity. Explore the out-of-this-world landscape, including the famous mud pool, the largest in New Zealand. Arrive at 10:15 am to hear the history and see the beauty of the Lady Knox Geyser, which erupts daily to heights of 33 to 66 feet (10 to 20 m).

Or you can go back to the swings (or the luge that are up by the swings), try the skydiving, or stay close to the lodge, which also offers activities for the day.

This evening, New Zealand's most awarded cultural attraction invites you to feast on song, drama, tradition, and divine seasonal kai (cuisine) within the forest Pa (village), a magical space blanketed by towering tawa trees, blazing bonfires, and a forest-formed amphitheater. Te Pā Tū (formally called Tamaki Māori Village) shares Māori history, traditions, and cultural aspirations across four hours of celebration and food. Upon arrival, share seasonal kai horotai (delicacies) such as roasted tuna (native eel), creamy paua (abalone) on rewena (bread) crostini, and foraged greens.

Orrrrr you could stay at the hotel!

Today you'll transfer three hours south to Rotorua, New Zealand's famous geothermal city. Wind down the window and brace yourself for the strong smell of sulfur—that's when you know you've arrived. This area is one of the world's most active volcanic regions, and you'll find bubbling mud pools, steaming geysers, and signs pointing to natural hot springs. Beyond geothermal fun, Rotorua is home to several prominent Māori tribes and adrenaline-pumping attractions such as skydiving and a giant swing reaching 80 miles (130 km) per hour.

Welcome to Auckland, New Zealand's self-proclaimed "City of Sails." Surrounded by native bush, rainforests, and an abundance of beaches, Auckland is a playground for both the city-savvy and those with an eye for adventure. Explore the central museums and galleries on foot, or take a drive through one of more than 800 regional national parks to see deserted beaches, waterfalls, and native forests.

Our hotel here is the Cordis Auckland, located within walking distance of the historic Symonds Street Cemetery and Park, as well as Myers Park, Aotea Square, and the Auckland Art Gallery. We're here for the day and night before heading on to Rotorua in the morning, so settle in, catch a nap, and go exploring.
