Endor [Monday, December 29]

Luke, a tall golden droid, and the Ewok chief Chirpa, were waiting for the volunteers when the portal finally deposited everyone on Endor. "Welcome," Luke said, giving them all a smile, "and thank you in advance for your help."

He gestured to the Ewok. "This is Chief Chirpa, the leader of Bright Tree Village, where we'll be staying for the next few days." Chirpa bowed to them, then spoke a few words. The droid shuffled forward to translate. "Chief Chirpa welcomes you to Endor," he said, words coming out pinched and precise, "and requests that you make yourself at home. If there is anything he or his warriors can do while you are assisting their neighbors, please let him know."

There was a brief conversation between Threepio and the Chief. "Or tell me and I will convey it," Threepio said. "I am C-3PO, human cyborg relations, and will be serving as translator for you during your stay here. Do watch out for the bugs, and the large drops, and the variety of creatures found in the forest..."

Luke shook his head at him and Threepio stopped speaking. "He worries a little too much," he explained with an easy smile. "If you'll follow me, you can drop off your stuff in the visitors' quarters and we can get started building some huts."

It's going to be a little cramped. Everyone gets a sleeping bag...and that's about it. Don't hold your breath for an internet connection either.

Chat with your fellow travelers: students are in one hut, teachers, alum, and townies are in another.

After a brief hike through the forest (the trees are huge), everyone arrived at the, well, sad and unfunny ruins of an Ewok village up in the trees.

"A couple of AT-STs came through here and shot the place up," Luke explained, craning his head to look up into the trees. "The bridges are down, and all of the living quarters were burned. The Ewoks who survived have been staying in Bright Tree Village. We're going to give them back their homes, okay?"

Luke was off to the side using the Force to bring lumber closer to the group of workers.

Threepio was there fretting.

Both were eager to answer questions.

Indy was continuing to get a weird feeling working around these Ewok... things. He tried to push past it and work on removing some of the burnt remains of one of the huts.

It was one thing to hear the stories, but actually seeing the aftermath of what happened was really very different. Just the sort of light and cheery vacation Jaina wanted.

She was really happy to be able to get to work.

Toby was way excited to work on building huts out in shade of some super huge trees that just had to be a metaphor for something. It was like, all renewing and awesome and he didn't have to wear a shirt to build huts so his skin was shining in the filtered light and his face was the picture of pure joy.

Ender had been watching carefully as they hiked through the forest, categorizing all the things he hadn't seen before. A part of him wanted to explore, to be sure what the environment looked like, but that wasn't the point right now. He put it in the file of things to do later.

He was familiar with the concept of building things with lumber, though. While it wasn't exactly like building a raft, Ender felt he knew enough. So he started dragging bits of lumber to the right spots, clearing away debris as he went.

This planet looked a lot like home to Ronon, but hey, he was there to build stuff and someone had pointed him toward some massive logs that needed hefting, so he was busy and not really thinking about it.

Still, there was something about the trees.

Lee grabbed some parts for the huts and found a spot where he could start building. He hadn't done manual labor in awhile but he figured if he could make it through his classes, he could make it through this.

And he actually liked this. It was a good way to work off tension.

Tyler was actually sort of jazzed by the whole primitive thing. It was what he'd always said he wanted, right? Back to nature, all of that.

He grunted a little as he started working, keeping an eye on the students as he did. Back to nature, it turned out, was really freaking hard work,

Ino stretched, taking a long look around, knowing it was awful of her to be nearly giddy at getting to do something like this, and not really caring. She set to work with a will, humming under her breath.

It wasn't being insensitive, not to her, because she was working as hard as she could, but all the same there were trees and seriously she needed to go and climb them later.

Lacey was not so much building as wandering around the edges of the work area, trying to pick out plants that might make cute interior decorations. She hadn't expected to be doing the actual building stuff.

She hadn't expected she'd ever actually miss Hank.

That was a little creepy.

Wow. Not unlike Jaina, Tahiri was struck by what it was like to actually see the aftermath of the battle of Endor. The differance was that, given she'd been in shock for the aftermath of her only major battle action so far (and thus not exactly at her most observant), it was a lot more of a surprise to her.

Thus a lot of gaping as she worked.

There'd be a lot more than just gaping if she ended up dropping a log on her bare toes, though.

Feeling proud of herself for being able to help others, it was still hard for her not to stare at creatures and things not made of the world she was used to. But Penelope worked hard, or as hard as she could, and realized early that heels were not the best sort of shoe to wear while doing so. Being all she owned, it was all she had, and she would make do.

Climbing the rigging of a schooner was not quite the same as climbing up into some massive trees, but it was very good experience.

Tully had no problem getting up into the ruined village and began helping haul equipment up.

He also helped with re-building the bridges.

Hurley had no idea what an AT-ST was. Judging by the damage, he hoped he never ran into one in a dark alley or something.

But he was pretty content to help build, even if it was exhausting work.

John was eager to get some hands-on work, having spent far too much time indoors the past few weeks.

Pepper, as prissy as she could be (or continually was), wasn't afraid of hard work. So once she'd finally made it out to where the buildings were going up (and no, she hadn't known there was going to be actual building involved), she found a spot to start working.

No, stilettos were not the best choice. She had better shoes (marginally), but she was being stubborn. She conducted her entire life in these shoes. She'd be fine, thank you.

Just be glad she'd changed out of her skirt and into pants. She wasn't that stubborn.

(Though yes, her hair was still pulled back in an immaculately tidy bun, and don't expect that to change no matter how hard she was working. It was practically a magic power, her ability to look presentable no matter how desperately uncomfortable she was.)

Billy helped clear away wreckage, becoming more and more glad that he'd come and could help. And kind of wishing some of those bad guys were around to beat up on.

Worf went to work straight away and started chopping wood for whatever was needed to replenish the huts.

Agnes hadn't helped build a hut since... well, since the last storm had rampaged through Lancre and knocked some houses down, and that had been almost a year ago. Nevermind that back then most of her help had been with the hot meals for the actual workers; she knew her way around an axe and wasn't afraid of hammers or saws, either. She put her back into it and got to work.

The Ewoks planned an elaborate welcoming ceremony. Fires are lit, and there's dancing and singing as they tell the story of how the Rebellion saved them from the Empire, and Luke looked more than a little embarrassed at the prominent role they have given him in the events. The drums the Ewoks are beating on are helmets of Stormtroopers.

There's food (grilled meat, veggies that are good, if strangely colored, and lots of Ewok-brewed beer). Mingle away!

Among the revelry were all of the Woklings from the Ethics class. They'd even come up with their own dance to show what they'd learned in Fandom.

It was pretty much the cutest thing ever.
