Luke, a tall golden droid, and the Ewok chief Chirpa, were waiting for the volunteers when the portal finally deposited everyone on Endor. "Welcome," Luke said, giving them all a smile, "and thank you in advance for your help."

He gestured to the Ewok. "This is Chief Chirpa, the leader of Bright Tree Village, where we'll be staying for the next few days." Chirpa bowed to them, then spoke a few words. The droid shuffled forward to translate. "Chief Chirpa welcomes you to Endor," he said, words coming out pinched and precise, "and requests that you make yourself at home. If there is anything he or his warriors can do while you are assisting their neighbors, please let him know."

There was a brief conversation between Threepio and the Chief. "Or tell me and I will convey it," Threepio said. "I am C-3PO, human cyborg relations, and will be serving as translator for you during your stay here. Do watch out for the bugs, and the large drops, and the variety of creatures found in the forest..."

Luke shook his head at him and Threepio stopped speaking. "He worries a little too much," he explained with an easy smile. "If you'll follow me, you can drop off your stuff in the visitors' quarters and we can get started building some huts."

"Nothing. I've got a lot going on," she said, now wishing she hadn't already put her stuff away. It could have given her something else to do.

"A lot of new stuff since Friday?" John wondered how much could happen in two days.

"I don't want to talk about it." Which may have been a big flashing sign saying "Yes".

"So that's a yes, then," he sighed. "But you don't want to talk about it and you came over here to avoid me. Gotcha."

Jaina rolled her eyes. "I did not come over here to avoid you. I just don't want to talk about it."

John responded in kind. "So is this the version where I pry or the version where I go away and leave you wondering what message I have for you from Karal? You know me, dodgy memory."

"Why's Karal giving you messages from me?" She wasn't at the rational point when it came to that yet.

"I thought maybe you could tell me that," John replied.

Jaina folded her arms and said, "It's between me and him. And not even that now."

"Considering I still know nothing, it is," he said, eyes wide and completely thrilled with being there, really.

"You know what," Jaina said, raking a hand through her hair, "keep the message. I don't need it."

John was floored by that response. "You don't need it? What the hell is that about? He's your friend."

"You're the one holding out for information that has nothing to do with you," she pointed out. "And he's one more person gone."

Which, really, was the issue right there.

"Jesus, Jaina, he's just gone home," John pointed out. "It's not like you'll never see him again."

She didn't answer that directly, but considering she couldn't make herself plan past her next trip home, she knew that there was a very real possibility that she wouldn't.

"So if we're done here trying to fix what's wrong with me now, I'd like to move on," she sighed.

Sighing was a thing here. John scratched his head and sighed quietly. "Yeah, you do that."

"Fine," she said, just as quietly, and turned to go help out some Ewoks like nothing was ever wrong.

He hated when she walked away like that, but he refused to let her issues ruin his vacation, so he got up and moved his bedding to the far side of the hut. He'd let her enjoy her moping in peace.
