As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

After his discussion with Ender, Ben was not driven to drink, thank you very much.

He just wanted to.

He was currently sucking down something fruity and non-alcoholic with an umbrella and trying to get back into a vacation mood.

"Hey, Ben," Bruce said, making his way over at the bar. "How are you liking Hawaii so far?"

"It's beautiful," Ben said with a smile. "And relaxing."

In that nothing had tried to eat him all day, which made for a Skywalker definition of a quiet vacation.

"So far, I approve. You?"

"Same, plus educational. If you get a chance to check out the ruins, I recommend it," Bruce said. "It gives you a feel for what this place was like long before there was a resort."

Ben perked up. "There are ruins? Can you climb them?"

"Not really," Bruce said. "It's a sacred temple, so it's something you need to treat very respectfully. But it's still pretty interesting if you're into history at all."

Ben decided not to mention that jumping all over sacred temples was part of his father's morning warm-up routine when they had been on Yavin.

"I am still learning about this planet," Ben admitted instead, "so history is always interesting to me."

"You've been here a few years now, right?" Bruce asked. "I've been here seventeen and I'm still learning new things about the planet all the time."

"I keep having to learn about all of these other planets," Ben said with a smile, "or different versions of this planet...I have charts now."

Fortunately, here was someone who was all set to put him back into the vacationing spirit! Especially since she'd switched over to alcohol once the sun went down.

"Kiss kiss!" Karla chirped, a fizzy purple drink in one hand and a frothy green one in the other. "So, on a scale of one to ten, just how astral is Dink Meeker?"

"You've talked to Ender," Ben said immediately. "And you've gotten skinny. What have you been doing?"

"I stand in awe of your Jedi prescience," Karla teased, taking the seat next to him. "And if I am skinny again, you'll just have to help feed me. I intend to be perfectly healthy by Tuesday at the latest."

Mmmm. For some reason Karla couldn't fathom, drinking the purple drink after the green one made everything taste awful. But drinking the green one after the purple made them both taste like candy! She was going to make Ben try them in a minute.

"I was off helping to rescue Squall's sister. In a shocking turn of events that surprises absolutely no one, it got complicated. But I'm fine. I bet most people won't even notice."

"Most people aren't me," Ben replied, stealing a basket of chips from someone nearby and placing it in front of her. "How complicated?"

"Is there a scale for these kinds of things?" Karla asked, immediately going to raid the basket. "I wonder where hostages, brainwashed exes--not either of mine, evil sorceresses, explosions, and turning people into accessories falls."

"...what kind of accessory?" Ben asked, picturing people as wristwatches and tiaras.

"Said evil sorceress decided to wear Rinoa as a necklace," Karla said solemnly, holding up her glass with the remains of the fizzy purple drink inside. She needed another and stat! "So she could harvest Rinoa's energy and magic and whatever else."

"Umbrellas? They seem to," Ben said. "I don't know why--it's not like they're going to stop rain or anything."

Yes, Ben, try to find the purpose of a paper cocktail umbrella.
