As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

"That was astral poetry," Karla declared with a toss of her hair. "It even had astral in the text. Or should I recite it again to jog your memory."

...Assuming she could remember it all again.

"Oh, I remember," Ben said. "It will forever live in my brain and I'm not sure I should thank you for that."

"It's hardly my fault you have perfect recall," Karla said, leaving off 'whinebox' by will alone. "And just think, you can recite it at parties and things whenever you need to. You're welcome."

"And every time I write Dink," Ben added, chuckling and trying to swap drinks with Karla.

"Hey!" Karla said, swatting at his hand. "What's wrong with your drink!"

Besides being half-empty before he took a sip.

"Monkeys were swimming in it," Ben told her.

The rum was starting to take effect. "Yours doesn't look like coolant, either."

"Because it's not," Karla informed him. "It's a pina colada. Or a rum punch. Or a melonball. I forget. But it's mine and you can't have it. Enjoy your monkey cooler or whatever."

And, because it was a brilliant idea, Karla decided to keep her drink safe by drinking as much as she could as fast as she could. This could only end well.

"I don't want a monkey cooler," Ben complained. "I don't care how cool a monkey is--hey!" he said, interrupting himself and glaring at the bartender. "Stop putting monkeys in my drink!"

Karla couldn't hold it in anymore. Setting her glass aside, she began laughing uproariously in her chair. "I paid him..." she giggled, "...garnish...your drinks...bet with Ender..."

"You are all terrible people," Ben declared, "and as punishment I'll...finish your drink."

He grabbed for it. That'd show her!

"Hey!" she protested, swiping for the drink and missing by a mile. "What am I supposed to drink now?!"

Ben burst out giggling. "Get a monkey butt punch!"

"Ben, you are clearly drunk," Karla said with the careful enunciation of someone who was tipsier than they intended to let on. "Give me my drink back. You can get the monkey cooties!"

And with that, she dissolved into snickers.

"I had monkey cooties last week," Ben told her loftily.

Looooong pause.

"Not dirty."

Yeah, Ben was a little drunk.

"How'd you get monkey cooties then?" Karla asked. "Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirty. Hey--didn't you visit Dink last week?"

"Dink doesn't have cooties!" Ben protested, slurping more pina colada. "Probably. I didn't ask! And I meant th' other week! With the monkeys on my head!"

"Oh, so you got monkey cooties making out with your giiiiiiiirlfriend," Karla said, wagging her finger at Ben. "I'mma tell'er you said that."

"Go ahead," Ben said, flicking a plastic monkey at her. "I don't care anyanyway."

He frowned. He was pretty sure that's not how the word went.

"That's not the word," Karla said, heaving a sigh. "Na-nany--Enna--Anoo--Stop drinking all my alcohol, drunkard."

"You drive me to drink," Ben informed her, nodding. "The monkeys were very traumatic."

Yes, in all of Ben's life, the thing that made him crack were the plastic monkeys. Really.

"Your face," Karla retorted easily, tossing the plastic monkey back. "But I could see where bein' confronted with my extreme awesomeness might make y'need to drink to cope. 'M pleased y'can admit that."

Wrong scale, Ben.

It made about as much sense as his comment had!
