As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

Karla wouldn't know. She was sitting there, sipping her drink quietly. Why such distress, Ben? She was just talking 'bout flowers!

"Better me than some stranger," she said, giving Ben an innocent look. "You know how he feels about people in his personal space."

"You are a terrible person," Ben declared, taking another sip of his drink.

Oh, look at those injured eyes being turned on Ben. "I don't know what you mean," she said. "I just got done telling you how nice I was!"

"You meant the actual flowers, right?" Ben checked, smiling.

"Of course," Karla said, unable to bite back the smirk any longer. "Whatever did you think I meant?"

Someone at their table had a dirty miiiiiind!

Ben gave her a look. "You know," he said. "You're the one with threesome experience."

Behind him, the bartender choked.

Karla's smile faltered for a moment before she retorted, "Are you asking for advice for how to broach the subject? I can offer you a tip or two. Who's the lucky third party?"

Ben noticed the falter. I said something really, really stupid, didn't I? he sent, sounding mortified. I'm sorry.

"Have decided yet," he babbled aloud.

Karla leaned over to reach for his hand, scooting closer as she did so. *Don't be. I'm a little oversensitive right now is all. Things are...tense, right now.*

Darkness, when was the last time she'd actually talked to Ben? Too long, that was for sure.

"That's not what I he~ard," she singsonged at him. "I was told you have a crush."

Ben leaned in and wrapped her in a hug, not caring at all about how that didn't mesh with the words he said aloud: "That person is a dirty liar."

Karla was just going to hug him right back and damn the speculative looks from the waitstaff. "In fact, I was told you were writing poetic emails about how astral Dink is," she lied.

*I've missed you,* she sent. *I'm claiming you for a few hours this week. So nyah.*

I've missed you too, he said, kissing the top of her head. "In that case, Ender is a dirty liar. And nothing good rhymes with Dink anyway."

"Pink, drink, think, link, sink, brink, and mink," Karla rattled off a few seconds later. "I could probably come up with more if I thought about it. And just the ones I mentioned make for an excellent dirty poem already. What to hear it?"

"If I say no, am I going to hear it anyway?" Ben asked with a little laugh.

"After I spent so much time and effort composing it, you should feel honored that I'm offering," Karla sniffed. "It's practically a masterpiece. But if you have no appreciation for cultural artifacts, I shall hardly force it on you."

"Well, if you're going to be insulted if I don't, of course I'll listen to your masterpiece," Ben said, laughing.

Karla took a moment to compose herself, then struck an appropriately overwrought pose and declaimed,

"Kisses tumble from your lips
Thirsty, I attack your mouth to drink;
Hands caress; taut muscles pull
Driving me e're closer to the brink.

Teeth gleam in darkness, tug
A flash of white and pink.
My voice cries out! It moans,
'Force, you're astral, Dink!'"

Taking a long drink from her glass, Karla laughed and bowed at Ben.

Ben was torn between the dual urges to laugh until he was crying and to melt into a puddle of embarrassment on the floor.

"Well, I'm certainly not giving his email address to you now," he declared, settling for drinking far too much of his alcoholic drink in one go.

The other patrons, at least, those close enough to hear, seemed to be going with the first option, anyway.

"You're just jealous of my poetical prowess I can steal from myself if I want too, shh!" she announced loftily. "It was an awesome poem and you know it. I should write it down and give it to you to hang on your wall."

"That would be interesting to explain to my roommate," Ben said dryly. "And my girlfriend."

"Just tell them that it's art!" Karla suggested brightly.

The waiter came back to set down a pina colada by her elbow, pointing at another table who applauded when she glanced over. Karla waved and turned back to Ben. "See? Other people appreciated it!"

"If they really understood it, they'd been sending the drinks to me," he mumbled.

"Good art is not for the masses to understand," Karla said loftily, making that up on the spot. "Besides, I did warn you."

"You did," Ben agreed, stealing a sip from her pina colada. "Wow, that's strong."

"Oooh, is it?" Karla asked, reaching over to steal it back. "Mmm. It is. Maybe I shouldn't let you have any more. I don't know if you can handle it."

Someone had just decided that seeing Ben drunk would be the most hilarious thing ever.
