As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

"Well, none," Ben admitted, "but I didn't want any right now!"

Except what was in the glass he'd totally stolen from her.

"Yeah, I can see that," Karla said, switching her pointed glare to her drink currently residing in front of him. She glanced around until she caught the eyes of another waiter and held up two fingers. "You owe me a platter of appetizers, darn it."

Her green drink didn't taste anywhere near as good without the purple.

"I'm not sure I can order something called pupu with a straight face," he admitted. "Think I can just point?"

"Way to be, like, nine years old," Karla teased, cheerfully ignoring the fact that she hadn't ordered anything for that exact same reason. "As a future diplomat of an entire galaxy, shouldn't you be used to this kind of thing?"

And don't think you were off the hook re: Dink Meeker, Ben. Karla was just waiting to catch you with your guard down.

"Oh, I'm used to it in my galaxy," he said airily. "Just not here."

He ordered "the platter thing" to an eyeroll from the waiter.

"Because it's so much more embarrassing here, where nobody knows you," Karla said, nodding. And stealing the cherry off of the drink the other waiter had just set down in front of Ben.

Enjoy your pink drink, boyo.

"Though there's no way to say it without sounding dumb. I practiced."

"That's why I didn't--hey that was mine!" Ben protested, swiping her drinking umbrella in retaliation.

There. That'll show her.

"And that was my drink!" Karla declared, tossing the cherry back with a smug grin. "Funny how 'try this' became 'finish it off, please.' Harrumph."

Karla had been so upset over that. You could tell from all the hard work she'd put into trying to get it back.

But that was fine. She had other methods of retaliation anyway.

"So, did you get lei'd today?" she asked casually.

Ben turned a lovely shade of scarlet. "Um."

Karla was going to a special Hell. A special, special Hell and she was going to cackle the entire way down.

"Oh, don't be all self-conscious about it!" she exclaimed. "I'm pretty sure most of the school did. Ender did, in fact. I deflowered him myself."

Okay, Ender had actually refused the lei, but she wasn't going to let something like 'the truth' get in the way of teasing.

Special, special Hell.

Do you know what hurts, Karla? Shooting pineapple juice out your nose.

"You what?"

Karla wouldn't know. She was sitting there, sipping her drink quietly. Why such distress, Ben? She was just talking 'bout flowers!

"Better me than some stranger," she said, giving Ben an innocent look. "You know how he feels about people in his personal space."

"You are a terrible person," Ben declared, taking another sip of his drink.

Oh, look at those injured eyes being turned on Ben. "I don't know what you mean," she said. "I just got done telling you how nice I was!"

"You meant the actual flowers, right?" Ben checked, smiling.

"Of course," Karla said, unable to bite back the smirk any longer. "Whatever did you think I meant?"

Someone at their table had a dirty miiiiiind!

Ben gave her a look. "You know," he said. "You're the one with threesome experience."

Behind him, the bartender choked.

Karla's smile faltered for a moment before she retorted, "Are you asking for advice for how to broach the subject? I can offer you a tip or two. Who's the lucky third party?"

Ben noticed the falter. I said something really, really stupid, didn't I? he sent, sounding mortified. I'm sorry.

"Have decided yet," he babbled aloud.

Karla leaned over to reach for his hand, scooting closer as she did so. *Don't be. I'm a little oversensitive right now is all. Things are...tense, right now.*

Darkness, when was the last time she'd actually talked to Ben? Too long, that was for sure.

"That's not what I he~ard," she singsonged at him. "I was told you have a crush."

Ben leaned in and wrapped her in a hug, not caring at all about how that didn't mesh with the words he said aloud: "That person is a dirty liar."

Karla was just going to hug him right back and damn the speculative looks from the waitstaff. "In fact, I was told you were writing poetic emails about how astral Dink is," she lied.

*I've missed you,* she sent. *I'm claiming you for a few hours this week. So nyah.*

I've missed you too, he said, kissing the top of her head. "In that case, Ender is a dirty liar. And nothing good rhymes with Dink anyway."

"Pink, drink, think, link, sink, brink, and mink," Karla rattled off a few seconds later. "I could probably come up with more if I thought about it. And just the ones I mentioned make for an excellent dirty poem already. What to hear it?"

"If I say no, am I going to hear it anyway?" Ben asked with a little laugh.
