Kohala Coast, Hawaii | Evening | Sunday | February 20

As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

Ben perked up. "There are ruins? Can you climb them?"

"Not really," Bruce said. "It's a sacred temple, so it's something you need to treat very respectfully. But it's still pretty interesting if you're into history at all."

Ben decided not to mention that jumping all over sacred temples was part of his father's morning warm-up routine when they had been on Yavin.

"I am still learning about this planet," Ben admitted instead, "so history is always interesting to me."

"You've been here a few years now, right?" Bruce asked. "I've been here seventeen and I'm still learning new things about the planet all the time."

"I keep having to learn about all of these other planets," Ben said with a smile, "or different versions of this planet...I have charts now."

"My version of Earth seems to be significantly different from most. And even then, there are several similar but different versions of my Earth," Bruce said. "It's enough to drive you to drink."

Bruce held up his coconut cup and took a drink. It was non-alcoholic, but still appropriate.

"But then the charts get messed up," Ben said with a little grin. "Did the weird guy on the radio get it right? Your birthday was yesterday?"

"It was. I try not to make a big deal about it, but I guess a squirrel overheard one of the people who kind of know me from their home wishing me a happy one," Bruce said.

Ben's lips quirked up. "I know the feeling," he said. "I don't really tell many people about mine either. Want a celebratory drink or plate of fried things or something?"

"Thanks, but I'll pass. I think I've probably had enough celebratory everything so far today," Bruce said.

Said the sober guy who ate healthy. And was a liar.

"Really?" Ben asked. "There was celebratory ruins walking?"

"I'm perfectly happy celebrating the remembrance of ancient Hawaiian culture, yes," Bruce said.

Ben snickered. "Added to the celebratory flower thing and you've got a party."

"Well, that's what we're here for," Bruce said. "Even if I did leave my lei at the room. But I'm still wearing it in spirit."

"Which is much better than actually wearing it," Ben declared.

"What, you're not a fan of wearing flowers around your neck all week?" Bruce asked.

"Generally not," Ben replied. "I prefer the people who smell like flowers to be girls."

"I agree," Bruce said. "Within reason. It hopefully won't be overwhelming."

Someday Bruce would marry a plant creature. Just noting that.

"I'd rather girls smell like girls, really," Ben said, "but if they want to smell like something, I prefer flowers to tauntauns."

It's amazing Ben ever had sex in his life, really.

"Do I want to know what a tauntaun is?" Bruce asked.

"Not really," Ben admitted. "They are large and smelly."

"I'll take flowers over that, too," Bruce said. "But I won't object if a girl decides to do without any artificial scent. Especially if tauntaun is a choice."

"If the choice is tauntaun or just about anything else, choose the something else," Ben advised.

Hey, around Fandom, this might be useful advice some day.

"I'll keep that in mind," Bruce said. "What do they look like? Besides big."

Ben reached for a cocktail napkin and sketched one out--badly, but the arms and legs and tail were in the right places. "They get used as beasts of burden if you're in the right climate," he said.

Or the really, really wrong one.
