Kargi Bay to Fethiye, Turkey, Friday Daytime

After breakfast, it was time for the gulets to take a relaxing sail to the town of Fethiye, population 68,000. This town is ripe for shopping and sightseeing, as well as an optional excursion to the gorge of Saklikent and the Blue Lagoon.

There was still some vacation left to be had, and with temperatures in the mid-80s, almost anything was possible.

Yeah, yeah, Cade was just sulking about the camel taking his time already, narrative.

He made it with three minutes to spare. The crew applauded him when he showed up--especially once they realized he didn't have another camel with him this time.

Emily basically jumped on a boat that was beginning to move. Whether she made it to her room or not was a completely different story.

SO. Hamams are pretty awesome and totally the Thing To Do when you're a bored tourist in Turkey. First off: prior to any massaging you're going to get coralled into a large-ass room, told to go lay down on a big stone in the center or smaller ones in the corners, and a hardcore woman or dude will show up and scrub you SO HARD you can see the dead skin coming off. (They do this really cool thing where they put soap in a cloth sack and wave that around until it's a huge foamy mass they can put on you. They'll also give you the glove they scrubbed you with at the end.)

Secondly, last time I went, we took a cheap trip - the trips to the hamam are usually cheap because they hope to convince you into buying massages, of which the regular package usually has a 20-minute one plus scrubbing plus pooltime. Anyway, I was laying around enjoying my massage when suddenly the dude pulled away and started chattering at someone outside. Obviously I was Concerned.

A minute later, this lady wanders into the room and starts babbling at me in English, saying they found a Terrible Fault in one of my legs and they can help alleviate it, but I'll need X massage. "Fault?" I ask, skeptically. The lady nods and says, "We see it often in young ladies such as yourself, who spend a lot of time on heels!"

At which point I cracked up because I almost never wear heels, and told her no (three times) until she went away.

Turns out she did that to everyone in our tour group. My mom took her up on it, but only because mom felt like getting massaged some more and it was the easiest way to get that done. Expensive, tho.
