Kargi Bay to Fethiye, Turkey, Friday Daytime

After breakfast, it was time for the gulets to take a relaxing sail to the town of Fethiye, population 68,000. This town is ripe for shopping and sightseeing, as well as an optional excursion to the gorge of Saklikent and the Blue Lagoon.

There was still some vacation left to be had, and with temperatures in the mid-80s, almost anything was possible.

Maddie was out and trying to get some culture in today, since she didn't really get to do things like go to museums outside of school field trips, and it'd been a while since one of those had been to something normal.

After about twenty minutes of wandering around, she was mostly glad for the air conditioning.

Bay paused near Maddie to wave hello, then jabbed a finger to indicate a burial exhibit nearby.

"This place is cool and all," she said, "but I always feel like skulls are watching me."

Maddie paused. "Now I'm going to, too," she realized.

"That's me, always happy to help other people be just as creeped out as I am," Bay told her, somewhat apologetically.

"It's okay, I probably would have thought of that on my own anyway," Maddie assured her. "So are you into this kind of thing?"

"I only like skulls when they're the cute Day of the Dead kind," Bay told her. "But art's sort of my thing, so I dig the old jewelry and statues. What about you?"

"Not really, but sometimes you need to get some culture," Maddie said. "And if I swam anymore I thought I might turn into an actual prune, so museums it is."

Bay smiled. "I was less worried about prune-hood than about exploding from too much baklava," she said. "I was getting obsessed. Yay for culture."

"You know, I'd never even had that stuff before?" Maddie admitted. "It's mean to send us on a trip like this and let it only be for a week." Greedy, Maddie.

"I don't know if there's ever such a thing as enough travel," Bay said, trying to sound wise as she drifted toward a case of jewelry. "But yeah, the week went fast."

Maddie sort of followed along, because she could. "And I shouldn't even complain about going back to classes when I have like, three, but I want to complain about going back to classes."

"I want to complain about going back to a tiny island," Bay admitted. "I mean, okay, I'm from Kansas City but at least that's a city."

"True.. It's still a ton more than I got to see and do at my old school, though, so I'll take it," she admitted.
