selfhelphero: ([zzz] newfoundland town)

St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Thursday Morning and Afternoon

The good news was, it still wasn't raining. The bad news was, it was still muddy outside. Hopefully, if you were coming out for the Habitat for Humanity build, you'd wear shoes you didn't mind getting dirty!

If you weren't heading for the build, well, there was still plenty to do, especially for those who had a thing for wildlife. Or, there were still plenty of hotel amenities to explore, and with only one day left in town, time was running out to see what the city had to offer!

After totally honestly having been around, but quiet, the last few days, Marshall got down on hands and knees to start placing the tile. It was actually fun, making sure tiles were placed in order, and keeping things in the right pattern helped keep his mind engaged.

Precision work that had to be repeated over and over and over and over and...

Well, that was one way to keep Bruce's mind occupied. Plus, it was an opportunity to familiarize himself with adhesives which could surely be useful someday in the future.

Tiles seemed like a hard enough job, and after having spent yesterday handwavily painting, Dolf really could use the extra exercise. He listened carefully to the other people who were working on it, and then got to it.

Annie probably had nothing to worry about at this point. If she hadn't had a conversation about anything that had gotten said on radio, she might not have it at all. That didn't mean she wasn't still actively avoiding her room or that she wasn't going to make a point of doing something like say, tiling, so if anyone did try to have a conversation she could say she was really busy.

Embarrassment was going to lead to her learning all sorts of new skills this trip.

Tara enjoyed the solitary precision of tiling, block against block, against block -- like Tetris only real. It also seemed blissfully free of ways she could hurt herself.

Stephanie was more than a little disappointed that there wasn't any roofing work to be done today, but it was cold out there and some time indoors wouldn't be a bad thing.

Tiling seemed like a new and interesting sort of challenge, so she got herself a stack of tiles and spacers, then settled in to lay out her section of the floor carefully. But quickly, because she kind of couldn't wait to get to the grout part.

William was quite happy to get to work with tiling some bathrooms. Possibly more due to the calculating how much tile was needed per unit of area part than the actual laying of tile part, but did that really matter?

Angelica's arms were aching from the painting, so she figured she'd try something different today. Her knees were probably going to be complaining by that afternoon, though.

Not dirty.

Hercules... kept breaking tiles as he tried to do this part.

"Why are they so confoundingly fragile!" he would shout in frustration.

It had irritated Ryan to sit out on previous days of work because she wasn't feeling that great. So today, she tried to make up for it by working extra hard on putting down tiles.

Taking a break from the painting today, in favour of trying to put carpet down without pinning his hands at the same time.

So far with only very minor blood loss. His index finger would probably recover.

Carpeting was something new all right. Not the heaviest labor available, but Ender had been doing that for two days now, and it was starting to wear on his arms. So: today would be a little less heavy, with rolls of carpet and plenty of work on the ground.

Jack was doing his best with the carpeting. While he wasn't the best handyman around he was able to at least help get the foam and carpeting nicely.

If the carpet sometimes appeared like it was unrolling itself, well, Anakin was being a little lazy today...

Well, carpeting was something different to try at least. Richie had no idea how to install carpeting, but he was up for a challenge. And it couldn't be too hard, right? Maybe he'd stick with the foam parts and then someone else could cover it up with well-installed carpeting in case something went wrong.
