Kohala Coast, Hawaii | Evening | Sunday | February 20

As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

"I think you'd be throwing it at me so I could peel it and squeeze it out onto your stomach," Nathan said, smirking over at her. "You want me to make orange juice on your belly. It's au naturale!"

"No, I'd be throwing it at you in the hopes that it'd shut you up for a moment," she retorted. "Either by knocking you out or by distracting you."

"What, you don't like when I talk?" Nathan asked, frowning over at her. "Why not? My accent is fucking adorable."

"Your accent is nice and I do like it when you talk," Kate replied with another amused glance. "But you keep talking about me wanting to rub a bagged lunch all over myself, so excuse me if I don't like all of what you say."

"Hey, you started it with the seductive pudding talk," Nathan pointed out, shrugging. "At least I didn't bring mayonnaise into it."

"And you pretty much talked your way out of the chance of getting a pudding demonstration," Kate said with a brief pout for how sad that must be for him. "Too bad."

"Yeah see, I don't know if I could take that seriously," Nathan said, shaking his head. "You'd start licking the pudding and I'd immediately start thinking of lunchtime at primary school and then I'd just start feeling like bit of deviant."

He paused.

"A deviant in an illegal way."

Kate shook her head. "Nah, see, I think you'd just see the licking and nothing else," she mused. "I mean, it's kinda basic boy science."

"But I am not a basic boy and I do not follow the typical rules of science," Nathan said, shaking his head. "Try again, Katie from the Midwest."

So there, Kate, so there.

"Ha ha, Nathaniel," Kate replied dryly, then took a sip of her drink again. "I think you are pretty basic, though."

"And why is that?" Nathan had to ask. "Because I like sex?"

"Because you don't even pretend not to," she shrugged. "You flaunt the qualities most dudes try to pretend they don't have. But it's those qualities that make a basic guy."

"Oh, Kate, you don't really know me at all," he said and reached over to bop her nose with a finger for that one. "Your observations and analysis are cute but yeah, that's really fucking superficial. Try again next time."

Kate wrinkled her nose, more as a reaction to getting it bopped as anything else. "Wasn't trying to analyze you," she claimed. "Just saying what I see, in a pretty generic way."

"That your way of telling me I've got no depth?" Nathan wondered. "Sounded like a pretty basic analysis to me."

"I just said it was generic," Kate pointed out. "As in, the analysis lacked depth. No real comment on yours."

"And now I'm asking you if you think I have depth," Nathan said pointedly. "Tell me true, Katie, or I'll be pissed."

Kate dranks some more of the sweet bright stuff and found herself wishing for a cigarette, not for any other reason than the dramatic effect of letting the smoke out. Too bad.

"You," she said, leaning towards him while fixing him with a look, "my dear mister Young, probably have about as much depth as one of those huge freaky trench things they have in the ocean. Like, there's an illusion of having it all figured out 'cause it's an ocean and that's simple, but then there's this deep fucking pit there that just goes on and on. So yeah, I do think you have depth."

"God, you make me sound like a fucking seat turtle," he said and laughed. The answer pleased him enough though. It was good to hear she didn't think he was some superficial lame ass. "Thank you though. I doubt most people would think of it like that."

"Well, that's just because most people aren't as awesome as I am," Kate remarked with a little smirk, vaguely toasting him with her drink as she leaned back again. "Also, they probably haven't been exposed to your depths as much, but mostly it's the awesome thing."

Of course it was.

"Right, an awesome thing," he said, nodding in an exaggerated but agreeable way. "Which is something you have in spades and spades and spades, yeah? There is no Kate, only Awesome."

"Preetty much," Kate replied, drawing out the first word with that cheerful smugness she was so fond of showing. "I think it's pretty obvious."

"And what happens when someone wants to see Kate and not Awesome?" Nathan wondered. "Is it like a superhero thing? Kate is your nerdy alter ego with no change of banging anyone but Awesome's the one who gets it all?"

Kate waved a hand while taking yet another sip. "Pfft, as if anyone would wanna see Kate if they can choose Awesome instead."

That was probably selfdeprecation presented extremely lightly.

"You have such little faith in the Kate side of you," Nathan said, shaking his head sadly. "And here I thought the confidence that existed on the Awesome side came from the Kate side. What am I to think now? It's like the chicken and the egg dilemma. Which came first, right? I thought Kate came first followed by Awesome but now I'm wondering if they were both genetically engineered to hatch separately and then cloned together."
