As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

"See, I knew it was something like that," Kate replied, somewhat amused. "I think you're reading the wrong book, dude."

"Nah," Nathan said, shaking his head and finishing his drink. "You're like a pop up book full of bears that love porn. It makes sense, Kate. You just have to be philosophical about it."

"It makes no sense, and you just want to desperately associate me with porn," Kate retorted. "And bears, for some reason, which I think says more about you than it does about me."

"One, you're already associated with porn." That was her own fault. "Two, bears are awesome and you're just not deep enough to see the meaning between bears with porn and you."

He paused.

"And I'm not going to tell you because that would defeat the purpose. Enjoy one of the great mysteries in life, Kate. Maybe one day you'll have attained a high enough level of personal introspection to figure it out."

Kate rolled her eyes. "Nah, since you're just making stuff up on the fly to cover up the fact that you really have no idea about me, and it's easy to string a few random words together. I'm sure there are bonus points for being offensive."

"Oh, I have no idea about you?" Nathan asked, raising an eyebrow. "Really? Wanna rethink that considering some conversations we've had lately?"

"I don't have anything to do with bears and I hate being associated with porn," she replied, idly reaching over to poke at his shoulder once, twice. "Your grasp on me must be a weak one."

"The fact remains that you are associated with porn and that you're as bitchy as a bear is mean sometimes," Nathan said, proving that he had some logic in there. "So, argue with me now, Porno Bear."

"Your logic is shit." It also earned him a thwap against that shoulder of his, since it was all there and stuff and she was mildly annoyed. "Don't call me that."

"Call you what? Porno Bear?" Nathan asked, snickering. "Why? It's cute and cuddly and...naked! See, nothing bad there. Stop getting all bent out of shape, Kate. It's a harmless nickname."

"It's not harmless," she said, and smacked him again because it didn't seem like the first one had done the trick. The second was as light as the first, though. "Please don't."

"And just how is it not harmless?" Nathan asked before adding, "Besides to me, of course. Quit hitting me. I reserve that right for my special, special friends."

Kate refrained from hitting him again, and just frowned at him instead, then looked towards the water. "It's not harmless because it makes me uncomfortable."

"And yet, you got porn associated with your name anyway," Nathan said, shaking his head. "That's still utterly confusing to me, Kate. Utterly."

"I didn't think of it as porn, and anyway, being uncomfortable came later," Kate said, pretty much sulking a bit over what remained of her drink now, yes. "I shouldn't have even told you about it, I don't know why I did."

"Oh please, I don't think any less of you for it," Nathan said, rolling his eyes. "Don't be so melodramatic, Kate. It's unbecoming of a tropical island where you're supposedly awesome. Don't make me doubt you know. I don't know if my shaky world view could take it."

"I'm not being melodramatic and I don't think you think less of me for it." Because she did know why she'd told him: out of some fucked up need to impress, because she knew the kind of guys who found shit like that impressive. She rolled her eyes. "I'm just regretting telling you when you'll keep bringing it up and I kinda want to just forget it ever happened."

"I think the both of us will have to catch permanent amnesia for that to happen," he said thoughtfully. "And really, even then, I think I'd somehow remember your pornoriffic past. It's just one of those things that can't be taken away, Kate. It's like a gift. A naked, kinky gift."

"Well can't you just... keep it in your head or something?" she wondered, sticking her bottom lip out without even realizing she was doing it. "And not rub it in my face."

"I can make no promises," Nathan said, shrugging. "We shall see what happens, shan't we?"

Nathan was pretty sure that was the first time he'd used that word in his life.

"Mmh. You do realize I won't hesitate to cut you out of my life if you annoy me enough, don't you?"

Of course, she was allowing a guy who was pretty much a mass murderer to play an integral role in her life, so maybe that wasn't all the way true, but whatever. She finished her drink and smirked at him.

"And then you'd miiiss me."

"Nah."

Of course he'd say that.

"I don't miss people."

He was kind of lying.

Kate was pretty sure he was lying, but that didn't matter. She tilted her head, smirk widening. "Well, I'm not people."

Come one, she was far too special to be people.

"You're not people?" Nathan asked, raising an eyebrow. "What are you, then? Woman, hear you roar? Please. I can feel the bile rising in my throat."

"I'm far too awesome to be something as generic as 'people'," she informed him, since he'd asked. "Seriously, I thought you could figure that out."
