As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

"I think the both of us will have to catch permanent amnesia for that to happen," he said thoughtfully. "And really, even then, I think I'd somehow remember your pornoriffic past. It's just one of those things that can't be taken away, Kate. It's like a gift. A naked, kinky gift."

"Well can't you just... keep it in your head or something?" she wondered, sticking her bottom lip out without even realizing she was doing it. "And not rub it in my face."

"I can make no promises," Nathan said, shrugging. "We shall see what happens, shan't we?"

Nathan was pretty sure that was the first time he'd used that word in his life.

"Mmh. You do realize I won't hesitate to cut you out of my life if you annoy me enough, don't you?"

Of course, she was allowing a guy who was pretty much a mass murderer to play an integral role in her life, so maybe that wasn't all the way true, but whatever. She finished her drink and smirked at him.

"And then you'd miiiss me."

"Nah."

Of course he'd say that.

"I don't miss people."

He was kind of lying.

Kate was pretty sure he was lying, but that didn't matter. She tilted her head, smirk widening. "Well, I'm not people."

Come one, she was far too special to be people.

"You're not people?" Nathan asked, raising an eyebrow. "What are you, then? Woman, hear you roar? Please. I can feel the bile rising in my throat."

"I'm far too awesome to be something as generic as 'people'," she informed him, since he'd asked. "Seriously, I thought you could figure that out."

"Eh." He shrugged a shoulder. "You're generic, Kate. It's a good generic but nothing astounding just yet. Still got shit to prove. It's not like you're famous or something. Call me when you sign your first record deal."

"You're mind is very limited," Kate decided, "if that's your view on what it takes to not be generic. And you're totally failing at holiday spirit. I pity you."

"...holiday spirit?" Nathan repeated. "What weird fucking American holiday am I missing?"

"Spring break!" That totally qualified as a holiday, right? "That's the spirit you're failing at."

Because that spirit called for humoring her. Why wouldn't it?

"And what spirit should I be encompassing, oh wise one?" Nathan asked, sounding skeptical. "I'm drinking and being lazy. That's not the spirit of Spring Break?"

"You should be telling me you'd miss me if I cut you out of my life," she told him, nodding sagely. "Even if you wouldn't. We're on vacation which is supposed to be a happy time."

"I'm happy!" He was grinning and everything. "Who says I'm not happy? Just because I'm not proclaiming that my life will be an empty husk of its former self if you were gone doesn't mean I am not happy and cheerful."

"No, idiot, you're supposed to make me happy too." Duh. "In what world would I think it'd make you happy to tell me you'd miss me? Come on."

"But Kate, I don't miss people," he said, shaking his head. "And lying is dishonest and unethical. Why would I do something like that?"

"Because you lie about shit all the fucking time," she pointed out, then tried for an adorable smile. "So why not about something as minor as this?"

"I do not lie." That was a lie right there. "And telling you that I'd miss you is just such a terrible, awful lie that I could not bear to let the words slip from my mouth."

"You do lie, and you wear that fact like a badge of honor when it suits you." And she was going to pout at him now, not that she expected that to help. "And besides, if I know it's a lie then it's just words. And you can't be afraid of mere words, can you?"

"You are not going to talk me into circles today," Nathan said, shaking his head. "You can save that for your little boyfriend guy because I am not your puppet, dear Kate."

"Oh, fine," Kate sighed, like it was a hardship. It wasn't. "Have it your way, Nathan who is not a puppet. Don't lie, don't tell the truth, don't do anything. I think I'm gonna go for a walk along the beach. Maybe call my little boyfriend guy."

Zach, at least, would tell her he missed her; she was sure of that.

She gave the ocean view another look, then sent an easy smile his way. "For the record, I would miss you. But that might be a lie."

"Have fun with your walk and your..." He made a face at the boyfriend part but if it was because of the specific guy or the boyfriend thing in general, she would never know. "...other things."

He gave her another salute with his drink and didn't comment on the whole missing thing. That was a little too emotional for him.

"Other things," she repeated with a quiet laugh. "Right. I'll see you around."

And then she wandered off into the night. Didn't get walks on the beach quite like this in Fandom.
