As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

"Right, an awesome thing," he said, nodding in an exaggerated but agreeable way. "Which is something you have in spades and spades and spades, yeah? There is no Kate, only Awesome."

"Preetty much," Kate replied, drawing out the first word with that cheerful smugness she was so fond of showing. "I think it's pretty obvious."

"And what happens when someone wants to see Kate and not Awesome?" Nathan wondered. "Is it like a superhero thing? Kate is your nerdy alter ego with no change of banging anyone but Awesome's the one who gets it all?"

Kate waved a hand while taking yet another sip. "Pfft, as if anyone would wanna see Kate if they can choose Awesome instead."

That was probably selfdeprecation presented extremely lightly.

"You have such little faith in the Kate side of you," Nathan said, shaking his head sadly. "And here I thought the confidence that existed on the Awesome side came from the Kate side. What am I to think now? It's like the chicken and the egg dilemma. Which came first, right? I thought Kate came first followed by Awesome but now I'm wondering if they were both genetically engineered to hatch separately and then cloned together."

"What can I say, I'm a complicated girl," Kate said, shrugging lightly and offering him a wry little smile. "A multifaceted daughter of a multiple mother. Don't try to analyze me, you'll just give yourself a headache."

Nathan had no real plans of attempting some deep analysis on his vacation. Besides, he was feeling the effects of alcohol already so analysis would have been dangerous.

"And has anyone ever managed to properly analyze you, Kate?" Nathan wondered. "Has anyone picked up that baton and run to the finish line with it?"

"Nope," Kate declared. Was that a lie? Maybe it was. She didn't care, because she wasn't thinking about people like that right now. "I'm a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Or some other bullshit like that."

"Liar," Nathan said, rolling his eyes. "You might be complicated but anyone who's that wrapped up in their own complexities can be figured out. It's just how things go, Kate. Nice try, though especially with that cliched little enigma line."

"Pfft." She shrugged her shoulders, didn't look bothered. "Well, no one's trying, anyway, so I can stay a mystery until they do."

"Yeah, I still don't think you're really a mystery," he said, shaking his head. "You're more like...a pop up book with pretty pictures and bright colors."

"I find that highly unlikely," she decided, wrinkling her nose. "So what's this pop-up book about, then? Since it's no mystery."

"Bears." Yeah, that was random. He didn't care. "Porn loving bears."

"Nah," Nathan said, shaking his head and finishing his drink. "You're like a pop up book full of bears that love porn. It makes sense, Kate. You just have to be philosophical about it."

"It makes no sense, and you just want to desperately associate me with porn," Kate retorted. "And bears, for some reason, which I think says more about you than it does about me."

"One, you're already associated with porn." That was her own fault. "Two, bears are awesome and you're just not deep enough to see the meaning between bears with porn and you."

He paused.

"And I'm not going to tell you because that would defeat the purpose. Enjoy one of the great mysteries in life, Kate. Maybe one day you'll have attained a high enough level of personal introspection to figure it out."

Kate rolled her eyes. "Nah, since you're just making stuff up on the fly to cover up the fact that you really have no idea about me, and it's easy to string a few random words together. I'm sure there are bonus points for being offensive."

"Oh, I have no idea about you?" Nathan asked, raising an eyebrow. "Really? Wanna rethink that considering some conversations we've had lately?"

"I don't have anything to do with bears and I hate being associated with porn," she replied, idly reaching over to poke at his shoulder once, twice. "Your grasp on me must be a weak one."

"The fact remains that you are associated with porn and that you're as bitchy as a bear is mean sometimes," Nathan said, proving that he had some logic in there. "So, argue with me now, Porno Bear."

"Call you what? Porno Bear?" Nathan asked, snickering. "Why? It's cute and cuddly and...naked! See, nothing bad there. Stop getting all bent out of shape, Kate. It's a harmless nickname."

"It's not harmless," she said, and smacked him again because it didn't seem like the first one had done the trick. The second was as light as the first, though. "Please don't."
