MARYLAND RENAISSANCE FAIRE, SUNDAY, DAYTIME

Occasionally, the world Fandom was in departed from reality. Usually this was to do things like make jellybeans fall from the sky, but sometimes it worked out in Fandomites' favor.

And so it was that when the Fandom shuttle pulled up to the Maryland Rennaissance Faire grounds on Sunday, the day was cool but clear. The ground was decidedly not covered with freak slushy snow.

The trumpets blared, the actor posing as Lord Mayor of the village made a speech, and Revel Grove was officially opened.

FIND A COSTUME

The costume shops are right inside the entrance; if you want to doff your normal clothes for breeches, a tight bodice, or both, here's the place to do it. If your normal clothes include breeches or a tight bodice, you're all set!

FOOD + DRINK

Steak-on-a-stake, soup in bread bowls, crab stuff because this is Maryland and they have a law, chocolate-dipped frozen cheesecake, and pretty much anything else that is 90% fat, can be eaten while walking, or both. Also lots of beer and hard cider.

Oh, and tables and chairs for lounging.

Historically accurate or no, this Midkemian was used to browsing in markets such like this pretended to be, albeit with less food items on pieces of wood. He ordered the steak on a stake and wandered around while eating.

Billy wasn't sure if some of this food qualified as "Renaissance" food, but that didn't stop him from getting a turkey leg and trying to eat it without getting pieces all over himself.

Rilla wasn't sure what was terribly authentic about a crab pretzel, but it was delicious and went very well with the mug of hot cider she was sipping from as she and Jims made their way through the crowd.

She only paused to stare at a few ill-advised corsets.

Petra had never been the kind of girl who had to diet constantly, but since returning from the island she was a 'no tasty thing left behind' kind of person. You never knew when you would find yourself living on grubs and bulrushes for the foreseeable future, after all. She was practicing moderation, wandering away from the food stalls before coming back for other delicacies and looking for someone to share a funnel cake with, but...cheesecake on a stick? Yes, please. Stake on a stake? Don't mind if I do! Hot apple dumplings? But of course.

Life was good, and by the end of the day, Petra would be very full.

VENDORS

Stalls include candles, jewelry, chain mail, floral wreaths, dragon cartoons, stuffed animals, devil horn headpieces, and pretty much anything else that struck somebody as vaguely craftsy and Renaissance-appropriate.

Tony found himself over at the armor booth for no apparent reason at all. Just, you know, curiosity.

And maybe a few frowns as it totally could have been made better at some of the booths. He stuck to the ones that looked like they could better handle an attack.

Angelica moved from stall to stall, ooohing and ahhhing over the items for sale. She kept her eye out for potential Christmas gifts for Emma and possibly Catseye, since she wasn't as awful as the other Hellions to her.

There were a lot of people selling jewelry, which gave Billy a lot more options for finding a present for his mom, but also made his decision harder. He was looking at necklaces at the moment, trying to remember what his mother's favorite color was, to narrow things down a little.

Dany had opted for one of her gowns from the Free Cities today, and a light cloak, and had left her hair down in silver waves, save a few looped braids.

As she wandered the stalls, inspecting floral wreaths and jewelry, vendors and passers-by would occasionally stop and compliment her on her costume.

She thanked them graciously, though she silently wondered what might have happened if she'd brought the dragons.

Tara started with a wreath for her hair and a cloak to put over her shoulders in place of her jacket. Then she moved on to jewelry. Then to herbal remedies.

She was trying to restrain herself from buying the entire place.

There was so much cool and unusual stuff that Petra knew she was going to have a hard time sticking to her budget (the jewelry was especially a problem). So she was practicing moderation as much as possible, mostly browsing and telling herself that if there was anything she couldn't stop thinking about, she would go back and buy it before they left, if it was still there.

Alex found himself examining the weapons stalls. He kind of wanted to brush up on knife fighting, and a new set would be just the thing.

Then someone told him you had to be eighteen to buy anything sharp, and his mood was ruined. Ruined.

Faramir had thought to find some familiarity here, but with ever thing that he recognised, there were three more that he did not. He had several people asking him if he was part of the acts or how he had made his leather jerkin as it seemed very authentic.

He fumbled his way through the questions, telling them that someone had made it for him and then made a hasty retreat. The Fight Club had left him cringing and he ended up at the jousting instead. It was but a small improvement, but he remained to watch either way.
