Spa at the Monastery [St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, Tuesday Evening]

Someday, there would be a clear evening in St. John's. Today was not that day - or that night. (Spoiler: tomorrow might be.) The rain was light, though, the temperature in the mid-40's for you Fahrenheit-speaking heathens, and around 7°C for normal people.

There were plenty of indoor entertainment options, though, for the normal and the not-so, and if you'd packed a jacket and umbrella, the walk to various night-spots wouldn't be uncomfortable at all. If you didn't pack an umbrella, you could always buy one! Or stand under someone else's...ella... ella... ella.

"And he," Tony added gleefully, pointing at Ben. "Might need some extra wax."

Ben reminded himself that using his Force abilities to convince the spa person that the other two also wanted their heads shaved would be Wrong and Inappropriate.

"But we're starting with him," he said, pointing back at Topher. "Reverse alphabetical order by first name! Topher, Tony, Ben."

"Yep," Topher agreed, more because that was the correct reverse alphabetical order than because that was the order he wanted things to happen in.

But soon enough he was being led over to a weird table and told to climb up on it and take his shirt off, which he did, awkwardly.

"This feels weird," he observed loudly. Just in case they weren't aware.

"Actually, my name is Anthony," Tony pointed out, peering over at the wax and the no nonsense spa worker.

"You are such a pain," Ben said, making a face at him as he took off his shirt and stomped over to his own chair. "And if you try to run, I'll bring you back and make them wax your ass."

The spa worker gave him a "the hell we will" look.

Topher peered over at Ben. "You're grouchy today," he evaluated. "You okay?"

Hey, look! Concern for someone else's well-being! That was new.

Tony sighed, unbuttoning his pants. "I'm keeping my boxers on. Nothing past that, thanks."

"You're getting your knees done, right?" Ben asked, hissing a bit as the wax hit his skin. "It'll look weird otherwise."

"Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow!"

Topher did not care for this waxing arrangement. He was also trying to turn on his side to get a good look at Tony, but the waxist steered him back into place and told him to hold still.

Topher sulked.

"Fine, fine," Tony replied, taking his seat. "It can't hurt that much, Topher."

Ahahahahaha.

"And even if it does," Ben said, "you don't let him know until he can't get up."

Duh, Topher.

"Oh. Right."

That did seem like the more logical thing to do.

"You never answered about why you're so crabby today," he reminded Ben.

"Ha ha." Tony glanced over at Ben, not about to ask how it went now. "Maybe he's not a fan of Canada."

"Canad-OW--is fine," Ben said. "And I'm not crabby."

Beat.

"Well now I am."

"Owwwww," Topher whined as the waxist started plucking some of the excess. "I liked the wax better!"

The waxist didn't seem bothered.

"Are you sure? 'Cause you seem kinda weird."

"Topher, you should check out my lab when we get back to school," Tony said, trying to derail that conversation. You better love him for this, Ben.

"There aren't wires in a bathtub or anything," Ben added, shooting Tony a grateful look, "but it's pretty astral. And I know Warren's not a fan of lasers, but maybe we could strap a cannon to the top of the van instead? We'd have to reinforce the roof a bit..."

"Are you cranky 'cause you have a crush on Ender?" Topher interrupted him. Because he had no social boundaries.

Pause.

"And all that sounds AWESOME. We should totally do that."

Oh, Topher.

Oh, Topher.

That was almost enough to distract Tony from getting hair ripped off his leg. "What?!"

"NO!" Ben sputtered. "No! No no no! Why would you think that?"

Perhaps because you're protesting a little too much?

"Peter told me you do," Topher answered, squinting curiously at Ben like he couldn't make sense of this reaction. "So... you don't really?"

That darn Peter, always getting his facts mixed up.

"Peter?" Yeah, Tony wasn't touching the whole 'who Ben is into' thing right now.

"Like I'd tell Peter," Ben scoffed, which wasn't a "no," strictly speaking.

Sneaky Jedi.

"'Cause it's a secret?"

So much for the sneakiness.

"Who else has Peter told about this?" So Tony could be all macho and--"JESUSCHISTTHATHURTS.
