Spa at the Monastery [St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, Tuesday Evening]

Someday, there would be a clear evening in St. John's. Today was not that day - or that night. (Spoiler: tomorrow might be.) The rain was light, though, the temperature in the mid-40's for you Fahrenheit-speaking heathens, and around 7°C for normal people.

There were plenty of indoor entertainment options, though, for the normal and the not-so, and if you'd packed a jacket and umbrella, the walk to various night-spots wouldn't be uncomfortable at all. If you didn't pack an umbrella, you could always buy one! Or stand under someone else's...ella... ella... ella.

Welcome to the Spa at the Monastery! Rooms come fitted with fireplace, bathroom, spa robe, a king-sized bed or two double beds, and an air-massage tub right in your bedroom. Enjoy.

No Thanksgiving feast tonight, but the Abbey is ready to serve the full range of their regular offerings, including seafood, steak, chicken, pasta, and fire-grilled pizza, in a relaxed, congenial atmosphere.

The Spa itself isn't just available in the daytime! You can have yourself a soak, get a massage or work out until nine in the evening. Maybe a little later if you smile pretty for the masseur. Just saying.

You're also welcome to hang out in the lobby; a warm fireside experience is guaranteed. No promises re: tipsy blondes in mini-skirts.

George Street is still the place to be if you care to hit the pubs or clubs and catch some live music.

If you're looking to watch something a little more athletic than a bunch of Newfies lifting pints when it isn't their turn to play, the Festival of New Dance opens tonight at the Longshoremen's Protective Union Hall, featuring Governor General’s Award winner for Lifetime Achievement Margie Gillis, established local favorite Sarah Joy Stoker, and the exciting emerging choreography of Lynn Panting.

If you do feel like braving the weather, bring your jacket and umbrella ella...ella... to the Anglican Cathedral on Church Hill at 9:30 p.m. for the Ghosties and Ghoulies (and things what go bump in the night) tour, to hear creepy tales of local hauntings as you stroll past the haunted landmarks and buildings themselves.

Topher had not left his room all day. Partly out of fear of Ramona, partly out of a strong desire to beat his current level of the zombie-killing game he was playing, partly out of a lack of interest in doing anything resembling work, and most importantly, because he just didn't have to.

So. That was where things stood with him this evening.

If any ~~mean peer-pressurers~~ friends happened to stop by, they would probably not be surprised to notice that he (as usual) had a huge freaking bruise on his face. See above re: Ramona fear.

Sorry, Topher. Ben and Tony were feeling weirdly social tonight.

Ben banged on the door. "Tooooopher. What are you doing?"

"Don't say you're not in there," Tony added. "Ben has weird powers to know these things."

"Come in," Topher called, then groaned as a couple of zombies in his game launched an attack on him. The game got weirdly cannibalistic and gross at those points, so he closed the laptop and set it aside.

It was unfortunate that Ben and Tony might have to wade through clothes and bags of junk food to even get to him. Not to mention the fact that the tub was currently filled with wires.

"Wow," Ben said, looking around the room. "It takes some skill to get a place this messy in a little over 24 hours."

So he and Ender had possibly the most anal-retentive bedroom on the planet. Shhh.

"How--did you even pack this much?" You know, said the guy who packed more electronics than clothing.

"Some of it I bought yesterday!" Topher said helpfully. "Also, room service."

Topher was not great at money management. Which was why it was probably best that he'd spent the day in the hotel today!

"What are you guys up to?"

Ben shrugged. "Nothing too fascinating: maybe dinner at the restaurant, make Tony get his hair cut at the spa..."

"I don't need a haircut." Yes he did. It was a wonder that it hadn't caught fire when he worked on the suit.

"You really don't," Topher agreed.

He liked Tony's hair. Shut up.

"And anyway, spas are lame."

Ben looked around in vain for a spot to sit and settled for leaning against the fireplace.

"You've spent a lot of time at them before now?"

Tony just settled in among the clutter, picking at something to see just what it was. "I haven't," he added helpfully.

It could be any number of things! This room was kind of disgusting. Just FYI. But all the clothes lying in random places were folded, at least!

"Nah, me neither. 'Cause they're for girls." Duh.

Hanna was blonde, but she wasn't wearing a mini-skirt. She wasn't even tipsy, but she almost wished she was. Instead, she was sipping hot chocolate by the fireplace, contemplating where she might want to go tonight.

"Not according to the brochure," Ben offered. "I read it yesterday."

He was totally that guy who'd also memorized the evacuation points in case of emergencies.

"They have really macho things."

Or so Ender had characterized them. Sardonically.

Neeeerd.

"Well, I guess that it wouldn't be bad to give it a shot..."

"Nooo!"

Topher. Really, now.

"I mean. Your hair looks good. You know. The way it is."
