Spa at the Monastery [St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, Tuesday Evening]

Someday, there would be a clear evening in St. John's. Today was not that day - or that night. (Spoiler: tomorrow might be.) The rain was light, though, the temperature in the mid-40's for you Fahrenheit-speaking heathens, and around 7°C for normal people.

There were plenty of indoor entertainment options, though, for the normal and the not-so, and if you'd packed a jacket and umbrella, the walk to various night-spots wouldn't be uncomfortable at all. If you didn't pack an umbrella, you could always buy one! Or stand under someone else's...ella... ella... ella.

It wouldn't be Rilla if she didn't add, "And we can see all of it."

Rilla tilted her head appraisingly. "Maybe. Should we go ask where she found them?"

"No," Annie said quickly. "I don't want to bother her... Do you think she'd mind?"

"Would you mind if someone came over and told you that they loved your shoes?" Rilla replied.

Annie once told a cheerleader she liked her shoes and the cheerleader stopped wearing them after that.

"I don't know. It's never happened before," said Annie. She took a deep breath and said, "Okay, going to go ask."

"She'll be nice," Rilla said encouragingly. "We're in Canada!"

"Right," Annie said, squaring her shoulders to walk up to the woman and ask. The woman was probably questioning her shoe choice if someone who very obviously looked seventeen liked her fashion style, but a moment later, Annie came back proud and smiling. "I got the name of the store. Maybe there's a field trip in store this week."

If she could actually work herself up to even looking at the shoes, let along buying them.

"Yay!" Rilla cheered. "I wanted to buy a new hat for winter anyway!" She glanced around. "Should we find chairs or perhaps a wall to hide against?"

"Oh, yes please," Rilla said fervently. "And something to sip on?" She looked around. "Everything seems to be very colourful."

"I think Latin stuff is just normally colorful. I think it's part of the theme," she said. "I should remember that in case it ever comes up for party-planning reasons."

Did Annie have a list of stuff like that to remember? Yes. Yes she did.

It wasn't often that people praised her for her mind.

Liar. She wanted to know why she hadn't seen a moose yet.

Rilla shook her head hard. "No, we only have normal weather at home. Rain, snow, wind..."
