Kellerman's Resort, Tuesday Morning and Afternoon, October 13th

The weather at Kellerman's continued to be favourable, as the autumn sun shone down on the fields and streams of the area. The staff of the resort were busy but happy to help, bustling through the corridors and courtyard.

The boards outside were advertising a white water rafting trip today, for anyone willing to go out and risk the rapids; for the less adventurous, a trip to see the Cascade Falls might just do the trick.

"You sound way too excited about that," Jaime accused with a laugh right before they hit the rapids.

"Woooo!" was Dinah's response as the raft spun halfway around, so that it was rushing sideways down the river. "Just excited enough!"

"Adrenaline junkie," Jaime accused with a laugh.

"Yes!" Dinah shouted back, either in answer to that accusation, or in reaction to getting the raft turned the right away. Then she beamed back at him. "Tell me this isn't fun!"

"This isn't fun," Jaime yelled back.

He sounded absolutely unconvincing.

"HA!"

Okay, no, no almost bouncing out of the boat! Dinah grabbed the edge of the raft and hung on as they started

to

SLIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE

down a portion of white-water, pretty much just yelling inarticulatelly at this point.

Jaime had instinctively started to reach for her to keep her from bouncing out of the boat, but then they were going way too fast and he had to grab onto one of the raft handles.

"Crazy!" he accused again, but he was laughing. Apparently she wasn't the only one having fun.

"Good crazy!"

Dinah stroked a bit more as the river guide told them to pull towards the center of the river, then settled down for a quiet bit, getting her breath back. "This is the kind of job I could stand to have full-time, maybe." Well, no. But still! For a vacation, it was perfect.

"What about all that detecting and stuff?" Jaime asked with a teasing smirk.

Dinah sighed long-sufferingly. "Oh, sure, be logical." She grinned at him. "Yeah, I'd probably last six months at a place like this. But it's five months longer than I'd last in an office." She grinned, peering down the river. "Looks rough up ahead again.... Would you pick this over dentistry?" She grinned. "Seriously, now."

"No one falls out of the raft and gets hypothermia in dentistry," Jaime countered with a laugh.

"Pffttt, as if we're going to whoa!"

That would be the rapids again, and Dinah concentrating on hanging on and keeping hold of her paddled as they were suddenly riding over the white water water waves like it was a mountain bike course.

"EEEeeeee!"

Jaime relaxed into the way the raft bounced. He'd gotten banged around enough as the Blue Beetle to know how to ride out that sort of thing. "You say that now," Jaime laughed, "but just you wait!"

Dinah turned her head to say something, and then they hit another rush of waves, and the boat tipped sideways.

She managed to keep hold of one of the straps, but that didn't stop her from somersaulting out of the boat and into the icy water with a shocked gasp.

Jaime wasn't (quite) dumb enough to jump in after her, but he did slide forward toward her, reaching out to give her something else to grab onto. He was too panicked to yell 'I told you so'. Instead he was yelling, "I've got you!"

Which might have been more believable if he'd actually managed to get a hold of her when he yelled it.

Dinah surfaced, spluttering and unable to see, one arm shooting out blindly while she clung desperately to the edge of the boat. Cold cold cold cold ow!

Jaime's hand shot out to grab hers. A rapid-fire discussion with the Scarab was enough to convince him that he didn't need to blow his secret identity right then.

Give me a scan.

So she's not really at risk?

Good. Keep monitoring her, then.

What? Dinah asked, disoriented and not sure what she'd heard, or who had her. She tried to pull herself back into the raft, hands reaching for her, trying to use her telekinesis at the same time her fingers tightened on the hand that had caught her.

The OH CRAP! she got in response was one hundred percent Jaime Reyes. He didn't make things any less obvious by suddenly letting go of her hand (after making sure that someone else had a decent hold on her, of course).

Smoooooth operator.

Dinah blinked water out of her eyes, shivering convulsively, to get a good look at Jamie's face as he pulled back his hand. Another bewildered What?! before she realized she wouldn't be able to hear the answer even if he gave one, wondering who he'd been talking to, then the guide was directing the raft to the nearest landing-- fortunately not too far down, as they were near the end of the course.

"'M okay," she muttered to the questions around her, still blinking at him. "I think."

Jaime let out a sigh of relief. "Next time," he mock-admonished her, "when I taunt you about someone falling out of the raft, you should let me do it."

Maybe she hadn't noticed!

Dinah hugged herself and gave him an uncertain smile, teeth chattering, face full of questions. "'kay. Thanks. For grabbing me." Gulp for air. "Next time, I save you. Fair's... brrr. Fair."

She totally, totally noticed.

"Deal," Jaime agreed instantly. Of course she noticed. Jaime was never that lucky. He told the raft guide that he'd make sure Dinah made it back to the cabins and got changed and warmed up.

It was possible she might want to talk.

Dinah sloshed her way out of the boat, wringing out her jacket and feeling everything squelch. "Warm clothes. Hot shower. Gah gah cold." She walked slowly, muscles sore from the cold and being dragged through the river, and turned around when everyone else was out of earshot. She blinked at Jaime, and took a breath, still hugging herself, then stopped. Her brain felt cold too.

"I heard something," she blurted. "When you grabbed my hand."

"That touch thing, huh..."

Jaime sighed.

"I guess you've got questions."
