Kellerman's Resort, Tuesday Morning and Afternoon, October 13th

The weather at Kellerman's continued to be favourable, as the autumn sun shone down on the fields and streams of the area. The staff of the resort were busy but happy to help, bustling through the corridors and courtyard.

The boards outside were advertising a white water rafting trip today, for anyone willing to go out and risk the rapids; for the less adventurous, a trip to see the Cascade Falls might just do the trick.

Dinah grinned at him for that, kind of relieved on his behalf. "That's cool. Your family knows all about it, hunh? You don't have to keep anything from them? You are lucky."

"How are you supposed to keep something like that from your parents?" Jaime laughed incredulously. "I mean... I still lived in their house."

And there'd been that whole 'missing for a year' thing.

"Some people try," Dinah said obliquely. "I mean. It's not really possible, but." She shrugged, gave him a sideways smile. "Not everybody has cool parents who'd help with it."

"Well... my mom did sort of freak out. She thought I was on drugs because the whole thing was just so crazy."

Dinah laughed, then facepalmed. "Sorry. It's just that's such an easy problem compared to some of ours, isn't it?" She grinned at him, and dropped her hand from her face. "So. We're still good, right?"

Jaime quirked an eyebrow. "You haven't changed. I'm the one who was keeping secrets and has a paranoid alien weapon system whispering in his head..." That was a 'are you sure you're not going to regret this?'

And the truth was that he felt ever so slightly guilty for not telling her everything. So far he'd managed to keep anyone from finding out he could armor up.

Dinah was still smiling, but it was a more serious smile. "When I got to Fandom, I was careful about who I told I had powers, and who I didn't." She blew out a breath, then rolled her eyes, at herself, mostly. "Which lead to exactly one huge blow-up later on. The guy in question was a jerk about it, but-- for him, it was an issue that even knowing about me was illegal for him, where he's from. And I'd put him in a Catch-22 of not knowing how to handle it." She shook her head. "This is your life, your abilities, you didn't know me, you can't make snap judgments on how much to trust people right away. Some people might say 'freak' and others might yell 'abomination'--" Thinking of Leto's thing about computers there. "And that's their problem, not yours, but you're the one that has to deal with it."

Dinah studied him a second. "Why would I expect you to take that risk right off, when you didn't have a laser-zapper in hand, knowing what I can do, in case I was crazy enough to try and kill you for it?"

"I don't know..." Jaime frowned in thought. "But most people aren't happy with someone knowing their secrets when they don't know any in return."

"I mean... I knew all about your powers before you told me anything..."

"That's me, learning from experience," Dinah pointed out. "In Fandom, where I know a dozen people who'd back me up. I wasn't the one at risk, telling you that, except that you maybe you wouldn't want to be friends. And better to find that out the first time we met, than later." She shrugged. "You just got to Fandom. You don't know anyone else. It's not--" She paused, trying to figure out how to say it, then said, "Trust is a gift. That's all. And sometimes it's easier to give it if you already feel safe."

"That makes sense, I guess. But it doesn't sound right for some reason." Jaime shrugged and grinned. "I'm probably just being silly."

"A little." Dinah grinned at him, and shrugged. "But you just want to do the right thing, right? I get that. It's not like there's a handbook for this stuff."

"If I find out there is such a handbook and you've been holding out on me..." Jaime raised a fist and shook it theatrically. "You'll get it."

"I also got a really snazzy pair of earrings," Dinah said with a completely straight face. Helped by it being totally true. "They cost more then a Ferrari. But I don't think they'd go with your shirt."

"How will we know if you don't let me try them on," Jaime laughed.

Dinah giggled, leaning forward to check his ears. "How does Scarab feel about body-piercings?"

"You know... I've never asked." Jaime turned his head and rubbed at his earlobe absently. "It's sort of protective, but maybe I can explain that it's necessary for me to look goooood."

Dinah cracked up. "Yup. Scarab! Let Jaime get an earring! And an eyebrow ring, Tony has one, it looks sharp. Or ooo, nose piercing!"

"Hey, let's not get ahead of ourselves," Jaime objected, holding up his hands to stave her off. "Let's start with those awesome earrings you mentioned."

Dinah grinned at him, and bit her lip, thinking of what she wasn't telling him, after all. "Remind me when we get back, because right now they're in New Gotham. I can maybe show you then, next time I come back from a visit there," she teased. "Until then, I have a really nice pair of pink butterflies?"

"You think I'm settling for some lame substitutes?" Jaime smirked. "I have my standards."

"Then I'll show them to you the next time I'm back from Jersey," Dinah said in lofty tones. "And we'll see if you can carry it off, daaahling."

"What is it with blondes around here calling people 'darling'?" Jaime asked, facepalming slightly.

Someone had met Emma.

"It's more fun and politically correct than calling you 'minion'?" Dinah checked, giggling. "Plus I can do that with a straight face. Who else is flirting with you?"

Um. Okay, keep skating, maybe that 'else' will slide by there.

"You know Emma?" Then Jaime's brain seemed to catch up with him. "Wait... flirting?"

"Oh sure," Dinah said airily, cheeks going pink. She tried to bury her expression in another sip of cocoa. "Frost. Who knows all and isn't afraid to tell all. Where to go. I like her, most of the time." When she wasn't getting called Tweety in a patronizing tone, gah. "What?"
