Endor [Tuesday, December 30]

Luke, sadly for those who were not, was totally a morning person. As soon as the sun rose above the horizon, he was up, trying to get everyone ready for another day of hut building and bridge hanging.

There was breakfast and really awful strong coffee, and then the hike back to where they'd been working all of yesterday.

Luke would understand if people took breaks to explore today. Three solid days of manual labor is no vacation.

"Right, besides, didn't we do this in class once? Minus the trees." John couldn't believe how long ago that class seemed.

"Think so," Gavin said. "And flight club and all."

And the times he'd been one things like this back home.

"Nice, easy race, right?"

Wrong.

"Of course, it'll be like a little bit of high speed relaxation," John decided.

"And we could both use that," Gavin said. "Been a tough week."

Seriously.

"I'll say," John replied, eyes going a little wide for a second and climbing on one of the hovering speeders.

Gavin hopped onto his own speeder, turning it on and revving it just for a minute to make sure it was functioning.

"It's a nice sound there," John commented, getting his own going and realizing perhaps belatedly that this was not going to end well.

"Yep." He made sure everything was attached. No need to go flying off the bike because something was faulty. "I love these things."

John didn't really know to care.

"Spent a lotta time on them?" Great.

"Well, things like them," Gavin said, smirking at him. "I grew up on a desert planet. Had to do something for fun."

"Fantastic, it'll be a real challenge, then," John smirked back. "What are we racing for?"

"You wanna make a bet?" Gavin asked, honestly surprised.

John shrugged. "Sure! Not that I have anything to really bet, but it keeps things interesting."

"Uh, I have no idea," he said. "Wanna bet like service? You win, I clean your room, I win, you do my laundry or something?"

Re: Build huts...somewhere else! Yes!

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure, let's make it laundry service, that's a good one." And one they could likely really torment each other with.

"Right, so where should we race to?" Gavin asked.

"Um, some really big tree?" John had no clue.

"I think there's a clearing somewhere up ahead," Gavin said. "To the clearing and back again?"

"Sounds good!" John said, revving his engine. "On three!"

Nodding, Gavin said, "One..." And he revved his own engine.

"Two," John joined in, eyes focusing on a point in the distance.

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Three!" Gavin shouted and took off like a shot, ducking down to get more aerodynamic.

John may have shot forward just an instant before Gavin said three, cheater that he was. He zoomed toward their goal, lifting over fallen trees, feeling completely freed by the speed.

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Gavin, having noticed that John was a kriffing cheater, sped forward, curving tightly around trees and maybe trying to veer a bit into John's path.

It was difficult to pass someone when they were in the path, so John swerved to try to pass Gavin while attempting to avoid hitting one of the many massive trees.
