Endor [Tuesday, December 30]

Luke, sadly for those who were not, was totally a morning person. As soon as the sun rose above the horizon, he was up, trying to get everyone ready for another day of hut building and bridge hanging.

There was breakfast and really awful strong coffee, and then the hike back to where they'd been working all of yesterday.

Luke would understand if people took breaks to explore today. Three solid days of manual labor is no vacation.

"Fantastic, it'll be a real challenge, then," John smirked back. "What are we racing for?"

"You wanna make a bet?" Gavin asked, honestly surprised.

John shrugged. "Sure! Not that I have anything to really bet, but it keeps things interesting."

"Uh, I have no idea," he said. "Wanna bet like service? You win, I clean your room, I win, you do my laundry or something?"

"Sure, let's make it laundry service, that's a good one." And one they could likely really torment each other with.

"Right, so where should we race to?" Gavin asked.

"Um, some really big tree?" John had no clue.

"I think there's a clearing somewhere up ahead," Gavin said. "To the clearing and back again?"

"Sounds good!" John said, revving his engine. "On three!"

Nodding, Gavin said, "One..." And he revved his own engine.

"Two," John joined in, eyes focusing on a point in the distance.

"Three!" Gavin shouted and took off like a shot, ducking down to get more aerodynamic.

John may have shot forward just an instant before Gavin said three, cheater that he was. He zoomed toward their goal, lifting over fallen trees, feeling completely freed by the speed.

Gavin, having noticed that John was a kriffing cheater, sped forward, curving tightly around trees and maybe trying to veer a bit into John's path.

It was difficult to pass someone when they were in the path, so John swerved to try to pass Gavin while attempting to avoid hitting one of the many massive trees.

For someone that didn't grow up on these things, John was pretty good. Gavin tilted away, trying to avoid scraping paint and leaned further down on the bike, trying to get low and cut the wind.

He figured, since his hair wasn't as high, he had some sort of advantage.

There was good and there was reckless. John was more the latter and felt his hair brush against a log he chose to dip under rather than fly over.

His head turned automatically to check out where he'd just nearly died and he lost a split second of momentum before hitting the throttle full to try to catch back up.

Gavin wasn't going to give up that big of advantage and vaulted into the lead, swerving into John's path and making John have to go around him instead of just whizzing by. He ducked under logs and cut past trees.

Man, this was fun.

John cursed under his breath for his own stupidity and booked it around Gavin, trying and failing to catch up.

Gavin hit the clearing and slid his bike around, heading back the way they'd just come. He pushed the throttle hard, hoping he didn't blow out his engine.

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Intent on catching up at the turn around, John slowed only at the last moment, causing the engine to strangle and nearly choke on him when he came about and slammed the throttle forward again.

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Gavin steered the bike higher, whacking a tree with his arm as he passed in an attempt to further catch John off guard as he blew by and towards the finish.

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
John cursed, ducking down low to try to increase his speed, hoping to god Gavin didn't make him wash his underpants.

If he did, John was going to booby trap his clean clothes.

[identity profile] sixstandingby.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Determined not to give up the lead now, Gavin found a line and followed it, zipping past trees and under low hanging branches. He maneuvered side to side, never really giving John a clear line to go by him.

Frustrated, John kept as close to Gavin's tail as he dared, not wanting to crash, but very tempted by the option.
