Endor [Tuesday, December 30]

Luke, sadly for those who were not, was totally a morning person. As soon as the sun rose above the horizon, he was up, trying to get everyone ready for another day of hut building and bridge hanging.

There was breakfast and really ~~awful~~ strong coffee, and then the hike back to where they'd been working all of yesterday.

Luke would understand if people took breaks to explore today. Three solid days of manual labor is no vacation.

"Oh, kriff, are you okay?" Gavin asked, dropping what he was doing to try and make sure she didn't fall.

"What? Yes!" she shook her head. "What?" Clearly she was befuddled.

"You look like you saw a ghost," Gavin said, staying alert in case she did fall again. "Or like I've got bed hair or something."

She blinked. "I hope not a ghost," she said, her breath stuck in her throat. "But how are you here? It's nearly impossible." At least she thought so. "Your hair is different, but still nice."

Blink. Blink.

What was Max doing here?

"Uh, I came with everyone else," he explained. "I'm not a ghost, most definitely. If I am, I'm the victim of one big cosmic joke."

"On this field trip? I can't imagine I've missed seeing you," she said, unsure of herself. "Did you... follow me?" she asked him quietly.

"No!" Gavin said, shaking his head. "Oh no, I don't tend to follow people unless I'm on a mission. And, well, there's a lot of people here and I blend in easily so easy to miss."

Gavin would get with the program soon and realize she thought he was someone else and wasn't just friendly.

Penelope flinched and her hand automatically reached up to cover her nose. Of course he wouldn't be following her, and his mission last time ended so horribly, how could she even think he was?

"I'm sorry. It was silly of me to think that you would follow me here," she said with another little head shake.

"It's nice to see you well," she whispered, "Max."

"Wait, Max?" Gavin asked, frowning in confusion. "Oh god, I'm so sorry. You think I'm someone else."

"What?" Poor Penelope was entirely confused. "You're not Max?"

"No, my name is Gavin," he said gently. "Gavin Darklighter. I've been here for almost two years now. This planet's part of my universe, where I'm from. I'm not Max."

Her face flamed with color. "I am so sorry. The similarity is uncanny and you must think me entirely rude. I just assumed..." she said, staring at him. "There is very little difference between yourself and the Max I know."

"No, no, no," he said, shaking his head. "No, don't apologize and I don't think you're rude. It's happened to me before. I look like the twin brother of one of the teachers. It's okay, don't apologize. I'm sorry I'm not him."

Penelope smiled, a little. "It's alright. I'm sort of glad you're not him. I would have no idea what to say to him if you were him, which you are not, and thank goodness for that." A beat. "I'm Penelope; it's a pleasure to meet you Gavin." She stepped forward, extending her hand.

"Penelope, it's good to meet you," he said, shaking her extended hand. "How do you like Endor?"

"I think it is very lovely," she said. "And the trees are beautiful and big. I told Ino yesterday it would be something if there was a big swing hanging from one of them. It's my favorite thing to do."

"I bet the Ewoks could do that," Gavin said, glancing up at the trees. "They're crafty little guys. I'm from a place called Tatooine. It's in this galaxy but a little ways away from this place."

"They are crafty, but I wouldn't want to ask them to build something unnecessary," she admitted, sheepishly. She was supposed to be helping them. "I never imagined other planets existing, Gavin, before coming to Fandom. It truly is amazing. Is Tatooine beautiful too?"

"No," he said with a laugh. "Tatooine is a desert planet. It's covered in kriffing sand. And I mean that literally. It's just...all sand."

She blinked. "I've never heard of kriffing sand. Is it different than regular sand?"

"Oh, sorry," he said and it was his turn to blush. "Kriffing...is a curse word in my universe. Sort of like damn and...the other harsher words here."

"Ohhhh!" she dragged out. "Then I just said a very bad word, didn't I?" Of course she couldn't help but giggle at that.

"You did!" Gavin laughed. "But no one really knows it's a bad word except for those who're from here too. And they use it more than I do. It's nice to be able to curse and confuse people with it."

"When I get mad, I will remember that word. It'll be perfect," she laughed. "Not that I get mad often." What was it again? Kriff? Kraff? She'd hate to say it again in front of him.

"I don't get mad often either," he said, "but I've been around the military most of my life and you should hear how they talk. Curse words are plentiful."
