Banyan Tree Resort, Friday [Evening]

The temperature was holding at a not-so-chilly 27 degrees celsius (or eighty degrees fahrenheit for some of you). As night fell, a few clouds formed in the sky, but so far they seemed to be drifting past peacefully, releasing no unpleasant showers on the resort.

Nightfall meant the bars were open and booming, but there was plenty to do elsewhere, too!

"That's quite the endorsement for this vacation," Jim answered, glancing over at her. "See, now you're never gonna be able to have fun on any other vacation because you're gonna be trying to measure it according to this one. You've just ruined all future vacations, Egg."

"Maybe they can improve upon this one and build towards its perfection," Olive replied. "It will serve as a shining example of the glory that came before."

"Wow, you're gonna be so depressed when we have to go back," Jim said, shaking his head. "Just do me a favor: remember to shower. I don't want you to be so upset that you let yourself go and just stink up the school like a gross sock."

"Hey now," Olive said, "even in my most depressed moments, I have never let despair get in the way of personal grooming."

If anything, she'd stepped it up a notch, actually.

"So, what do you do when you're depressed?" Jim had to wonder. "Do you cry? Or do you clean? Or maybe you cry while cleaning?"

He didn't have a lot of experience with what girls did when they were depressed. He didn't tend to be around and all.

Olive gave him a look. "Basing this on movies, huh?"

"And?" Hey, movies were sometimes factual. "What else would I base it on? Personal experience?"

"Actual girls you've met and talked to, yes," Olive said, shaking her head. "No, I don't clean."

"What makes you think any girls around me have ever been depressed?" asked Jim, giving her a little smirk. "I make them happy."

"You might not be causing the depression," Olive pointed out.

"But I can sure cure it," Jim said confidently. "So, you never did tell me what you do when you're all depressed. Do you call your mom and have her tell you that you're amazing and awesome and stuff?"

"...sometimes," Olive agreed. "Because my mom does that. But no. I get pretty."

She didn't mind telling him that much.

"You get pretty?" Jim repeated, wondering if she'd elaborate. "And what do you do after you get pretty? Go out and get crazy?"

"Kind of," Olive said, shrugging. "I get as hot as I know how. Usually makes me feel better. Making girls jealous and boys trip over dicks tongues cheers me up."

"Oooh, so you get evil when you're upset," Jim said approvingly. "I like that. And here I thought you were all good and pure. This is the one time I am glad to see I was wrong. I wanna see this evil side."

"I don't think you will," Olive noted, shaking her head. "Evil Olive's long gone. Remember? It's all Good Girl Olive from here on out."

"I will never believe it," Jim told her, shaking his head. "No one, not even you, Egg, can be consistently good. That evil side's lurking, just waiting to come out and it will. And I will be around to make sure I am a witness to it though I'd rather be involved. I love evil."

"You?" Olive adopted an exaggerated eye-raise. "I never would've guessed."

"Then, I haven't been doing my job!" Jim said, gasping. "What did you think I was? All cute and sweet? Gross."

"Innocent, even," Olive noted. "Maybe virginal."

"Only when I wanna be," Jim said in response to the first one. To the second, he chuckled lightly. "Yeah, I'm waiting for the right girl and marriage to come along before I do that. I am that pure and virginal, Olive. I haven't even kissed a girl yet."

"It's okay, James," Olive said placatingly, reaching out to pat his arm. "I was also once awkward and young and unkissed like you. Your moment in the sun will come!"

"You're such a comfort," he said, shaking his head. "However did you overcome such obvious deficiencies?"

"You'd have to ask those who chose to see past them," Olive said, clutching a hand to her heart. "I mean, I'm not kissing myself over here."
