Banyan Tree Resort, Friday [Evening]

The temperature was holding at a not-so-chilly 27 degrees celsius (or eighty degrees fahrenheit for some of you). As night fell, a few clouds formed in the sky, but so far they seemed to be drifting past peacefully, releasing no unpleasant showers on the resort.

Nightfall meant the bars were open and booming, but there was plenty to do elsewhere, too!

"Dude, no way," April said, appalled. "I don't do pink things. That's your dare, man."
furnaceface: (... Ouch)

"Of course it is," Jonothon sighed, frowning at his drink before grabbing the little umbrella from the side of the glass and slipping it into April's drink. "Then I suppose there's only one way to be rid of it, hm? Bottom's up."

One swallow, two, and three, and then the damn thing was gone, and Jono's face was curiously blank as he set the empty glass back down on the bar.

Three.

Two.

One...

"Oh good god it's grenadine and strawberry please excuse me I'm going to need a moment thank you."

He just needed to kind of curl into himself for a moment and focus on not dying from too much taste.

April snorted. "You'd think a guy who had his chest cut open at one point could stand an alcoholic shirley temple."

Prof Tomoe flagged down the bartender and got Jono a Carling, as well as more shochu for himself.

"And why, pray tell, have you been stuffing yourself with whipped cream? It doesn't seem like a very good local custom."

"Cut open my arse," Jono grumbled, his forehead resting on the bar, "it was gone. I blew the bloody thing away, along with half my bleedin' face. You try putting something like that in your mouth after nearly a decade without a tongue, see how you handle it."

The bartender was very close to cutting him off already, with talk like that.

"Dinner plans with a friend turned into 'get Jonothon some extremely girly drinks and then laugh' night," came Jonothon's slightly pained reply, "which is always more fun when it comes coupled with 'Jono still can't handle rich sweets,' and 'alcohol.'"

It had been hilarious.

"... I didn't even manage to actually order any real food, come to think of it."

Oh look, there was that evil grin again. Too bad for Jono that Prof Tomoe was one of those people who enjoyed the misfortune of others.

"How terrible," he said, with a semi-convincing sympathetic tone. "I'm not sure this place has any real food, but they do have a selection of pirate-themed appetizers on their menu, if you still need something to eat."

"Dude, chill," April said. "We don't need to revisit the pictures."

For some reason, the grin and the smile were not doing wonders to assist Jonothon with his mood. Weird!

"... I might take a glance through the menu here, yes," he decided, sounding perhaps a touch dubious. "See if they have anything that isn't terribly spicy or sweet, and go from there."

"We could," Jonothon muttered as he groped about with one hand for his lager. "Nothing like an evening drinking for a trip down memory lane, is there?"

He had no intention of pulling out the pictures again, no.

Olive was happy enough to just quiiiietly chill out tonight by the pool. She had a book, she had an iPod, she had a cute swimsuit (http://www.everythingbutwater.com/swimwear/browse/products/seafolly/pinup/45987+30070-385+175.html), and at night there was no danger she'd burn to a crisp.

She was going to be severely depressed when they went back to Fandom. Severely. Fling-herself-down-on-the-couch-face-first depressed, maybe.

How strange! Usually that helped pep people right up!

"I recommend the pizza," he said. "I doubt it's in any way authentic, but it tastes pretty good." He reached for the second bottle of shochu. "And well with alcohol."

"If it's edible, I'll give it a go," Jono decided, reaching for his Carling as he waved down the bartender and placed his order. "Pizza's pizza, isn't it? I wasn't aware that authenticity had anything to do with it."

Jim figured that the night was young and he could head to a bar a little later. Right now, he couldn't resist the allure of the pool even if the sun was going down. He was still gonna swim and, after that was all said and done, he was gonna grab some food from the bar and sprawl in one of the loungers.

"I find that pizza tends to vary quite a bit depending on the local tastes and preferences," Prof Tomoe said. "in Japan, where I'm from, the most popular topping combination is tuna, potatoes, and mayonnaise. In the United States, pizza seems to contain more grease than any other ingediant." Ge grinned again. "We'll see how the Seychellois prepare it."

"Particularly when they're giving it a pirate theme," Jono mused, shaking his head a little. "Can't hurt to at least try it, I suppose."

He was kind of trying to wrap his head around the prospect of a tuna salad pizza, honestly.

"Well, if you insist." His hand closed around his bottle, and he sat up, taking a long drink from it. "Really, I'm not much for tears, at any rate. I'm British, after all."

Good. Conflict avoided. Excellent.

"Atta boy," April said. The effect might have been lost a bit in the deadpan. Maybe. "Want another beer?"

That was almost like an apology!

By the time he set his bottle back down, it was most of the way to empty, so that worked out nicely.

"Carling," he said, pretty much immediately. And then he cracked the slightest bit of a grin. "Get the bartender to put one of those little umbrellas in it."

Apology accepted!

"So," Olive greeted him, carrying her book and towel over to a lounger near Jim's, "I'm pretty sure this is the greatest vacation in the history of vacations. I could do a paper on it and empirically prove this."

It's a little something like this. (http://ec.demae-can.com/user_data/OTABH00001/upload/save_image/06111449_4fd586cf33119.jpg)

"So aside from facing down leopards and eating unusual amounts of whipped cream, how have you been enjoying this trip." His lip curled. "Have you been paying any attention to the students we're supposed to be chaperoning?" He gestured vaguely towards where Atton and Jace were drinking.

"I know I haven't."
pursuedthestars: ([neu] hey there)

[personal profile] pursuedthestars 2012-10-13 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
"That's quite the endorsement for this vacation," Jim answered, glancing over at her. "See, now you're never gonna be able to have fun on any other vacation because you're gonna be trying to measure it according to this one. You've just ruined all future vacations, Egg."

[Oh wow, I am so sorry I missed this. I passed out hardcore last night.]

[identity profile] dirtiest-skank.livejournal.com 2012-10-13 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe they can improve upon this one and build towards its perfection," Olive replied. "It will serve as a shining example of the glory that came before."

[no worries omg I figured that was what happened!]
pursuedthestars: ([hap] smirk)

[personal profile] pursuedthestars 2012-10-13 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wow, you're gonna be so depressed when we have to go back," Jim said, shaking his head. "Just do me a favor: remember to shower. I don't want you to be so upset that you let yourself go and just stink up the school like a gross sock."
