Washington DC [Sunday Morning]

After arriving in front of the Air & Space Museum, Veronica passed out maps and told her students, "You can go anywhere and take pictures, but I recommend the places circled on these maps. You're also free to check out any of the museums on the Mall."

"I'm sorry," Veronica apologized. "I didn't realize it was the day of the game when I agreed to switch shifts with Weevil. I'll be there for the next one, okay?"

"How many points did you score yesterday?" Veronica asked.

He had to think about it for a minute. "I think six or something, but I'm the only one on the team with experience."

"Cool," Veronica said. "So you're gonna be Fandom High's basketball superstar? Maybe I'll have to start making you spirit boxes."

Cameron blushed and laughed softly. "I doubt it, but I won't say no to spirit boxes."

"I take it Fandom High's fine cheerleaders didn't provide you all with spirit boxes?" Veronica said, shaking her head. "Good pep is hard to find these days."

"No, they didn't now that you mention it," Cameron frowned. "I might have to complain."

"You totally should. They shouldn't even be calling themselves cheerleaders, really."

"Maybe you should join the squad. Show them how it's really done," Cameron suggested.

Veronica gave him a look. "Do I strike you as the cheerleading type?"

He took a moment to seriously study her. "Somehow I get the feeling that no matter what I say, it might be taken wrong. Can I just go with 'you know about spirit boxes so you're not oblivious to the cheerleading world'?"

"Good answer," Veronica said lightly. "Once upon a time, I was young and naive and on pep squad," she explained. "Then I grew up."

"Pep squad?" Cameron raised an eyebrow and grinned. "Finally one of your dark secrets shows itself."

"You might have to anyway. You're going to have to put those classes of yours into practice at some point," Cameron pointed out.

Veronica frowned. "I wasn't planning on it actually," she admitted. "It's more like when you carry an umbrella, it never seems to rain, but if you don't have one, no matter what the weather forecast calls for, you get caught in a downpour."

"Preventive self-defense skills?" Cameron considered it for a moment. "I can stick to showing you some other basic moves, but you're better off trying them out on me than not at all."

"I guess," Veronica shrugged. "I really just want to know how to defend myself in case I ever need to again. I'm not going to be going out looking for fights."
