Enchantment of the Seas, Currently Docked in Boston Harbor, Saturday Morning/Afternoon

They pulled into Boston Harbor early in the morning, giving the guests ample time to adjust to their new surroundings. It was a little cloudy, but it was nowhere near as cold as it had been up in Newfoundland. Decent enough weather just to hang around the ship itself - even better to get out and explore the city, or try some of the excursions there were on offer.

Tomorrow, the ship would get back to Maryland. So enjoy your last full day on vacation while it lasted.

"What?"

Natalie wasn't following, not that she looked confused or anything.

"Literature," Topher reminded her. "Business studies. Tooootally different things."

Pause.

"Right?"

"You can't be interested in both?"

Natalie thought you could. Even though the business studies part of things was more of a sensible failsafe than an actual interest.

"I guess you can," Topher said dubiously, since they both sounded about as interesting to him as worm reproduction. "Just, you said the brain science major explained the psych book. Whereas lit and business studies, not so much."

See?

Natalie did see; she just didn't care much for the distinction. She shrugged a shoulder. "It wasn't supposed to explain anything. I have varied interests."

And the conversational skills of a gnat, but that was okay. So did Topher.

"Gotcha," he said. "They don't involve dressing up as a princess and doing weird things, do they?"

Yeah, okay, this time Natalie did look a little bit confused, because that just sorta came from nowhere.

"...What?"

Topher sighed. And took out his phone, opened the browser bookmarks, and pulled up the bookmarked video.

"I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD BE HIT FOR THIS," he prefaced loudly, then handed over his phone.

Natalie gave him a mildly weird look for that proclamation. That went away as she took the phone and saw the screen, though. Her brow furrowed into a frown. It was disorienting to see someone who looked so much like you, doing something you wouldn't have done.

Absently, Natalie remembered wearing a valkyrie costume to a masquerade when she'd been a kid. She'd had a good reason for that, and that just made this all the more wrong.

And then... "What the --" Had she – Kate – had Kate just sat on a cake? On webcam for some guy? Topher was getting treated to a rare case of Natalie actually emoting, as she glared at him, though not in a punch-preceding way. "That's her? She did that?"

Why would anyone do that?

"A sad portent to future erratic and violent tendencies to come," Topher confirmed, clucking his tongue in disappointment.

Natalie scowled, almost shoving the phone back at him though she was already getting her annoyance under control and less visible. "And people keep thinking I'm her."

"If it helps, you're much less scary!" Topher offered brightly, re-pocketing his phone. Then, tilting his head at her, he assessed, "And I think you're blonder."

"... Thanks." What were you supposed to say to that? "I guess."

Privately, she figured she was actually capable of being much scarier than some cakesitter.

"Well, I mean, she punched me when I showed her that," he explained. "It's not like I posted the thing or anything. Just pointed her toward it!"

"Well, I wouldn't punch you." But that was because she was primarily a kick chick. "How many people have seen that?"

"Huh." He began to count on his fingers. "Me, Peter, Kenzi, Old K-- Kate, probably her boyfriend, and maybe others, I don't remember."

Because he'd been the one to show everyone. Classy.

Natalie probably guessed as much, from the slight darkening of her expression. "Stop showing it to people."

Topher nodded in comprehension. "'Cause it's gross?" he sympathized.

Not to worry, Natalie, it grossed him out too! Which begged the question of why it was saved on his phone, but that was a question for another day.

"Because I don't want it associated with me."

Which was really just a roundabout way of saying that yes, it was gross.

"'Cause it's gross," Topher repeated. Not that he could read narrative or anything.

Natalie suppressed another eyeroll. "Yes." No use denying it. "And I'm not gross."

"Hard to be as gross as Kate," Topher agreed, reaching to try to pat her on the shoulder. Condescendingly. As you do.

Natalie didn't flinch away.

She did, however, give him an ice-cold look that subtly suggested she wouldn't hesitate to break his arm should he touch her. Especially if he was foolish enough to do it condescendingly.

Catching the hint, Topher dropped his arm limply, managing to convey the very essence of awkwardness with a lopsided smile and uncomfortable posture.

He didn't want to get punched again. Especially not before Tony got a chance to teach him how to duck.

Natalie went back to mildness. "I'm not going to punch you." Whether she'd read that from his narrative or his posture, the world would never know.

She glanced around, mostly for a trashcan to throw her empty coffee cup in. "See you around, Topher."
