Parker rolled her eyes. "I suppose. Although I can't comprehend it." She let the ankh twist in front of her, then put it back down. "How much for this?" She asked, tapping a silver chain with a simple Irish cross pendant.

"Ten dollars." The street vendor grinned at her, showing even, perfect teeth. "You like?"

"Maybe.... Nadia?"

Nadia glances over at the cross. Do people bargain in New York? Well, it's worth finding out. She shakes her head. "That's not worth more than . . . five dollars."

"Oh, pretty lady! You are murdering me!" The vendor grinned again. "It's eight, because you're both such pretty ladies. And only because it is a beautiful day."

Parker folded her arms, and grinned, shrugging at Nadia. She looked too rich in her Dior rain jacket to do this well, and her new friend looked like she knew what she was doing.

Nadia carefully kept her expression stern, though she was having the time of her life. She wasn't used to bargaining in dollars, but figured the system was the same everywhere. She shook her head. "The chain is cheap. It'll break as soon as we get it home. I won't let my friend pay more than six dollars and fifty . . ." she wracked her brain, "cents."

"Tell you what I'm going to do, because you are hard woman, and I gots to make a buck," the vendor said. "I give you that chain, and the one your friend looked at, for fifteen dollars total. That's seven-fifty. You can't get fairer than that without sending me home to my wife cryin'."

Parker coughed, struggling not to laugh.

Nadia looked at the chain again, then over at the ankh. They were cheap, but fifteen sounded like a good deal. She nodded, making sure to make it look like she was doing the vendor a big favor. "Okay, but only because I don't want your wife to go hungry and you are a good salesman." She dug into her pocket for a little bit of money. "Sound good, Parker?"

"Sure. This one's on me, since you got us the deal," Parker said, taking a twenty out of her wallet and passing it over. "Thanks."

The vendor grinned, and wrapped up their purchases in tissue paper. "You two ladies enjoy your stay in New York City!" He clapped his hands and looked around. "Who's next?"

Nadia smiled back at the vendor and started down the street. "Thank you. It's been awhile since I had the money to even start bargaining. It's a lot of fun."

"I did a little haggling in Tokyo and Hawaii, but I always ended up walking back for the things I wanted and paying just under the asking price. They could always tell I could afford it," Parker said ruefully. "And thank you, it's nice to have someone save me from impulse purchases. I like spending money but I hate wasting it."

Nadia laughed. "I wish I had that problem. I've never had that much money, so I had to learn to be stubborn." and to shoplift. "I've never had the problem of looking like I can afford something. Usually I get thrown out of expensive stores." for shoplifting. . . .

"That's not gonna happen on *this* trip." Parker grinned. "C'mon, let's hit Century 21. I need to talk Jarod into a nice suit."

Nadia, now with a higher cashflow after meeting Trump at Rockefeller, grins. "Sure! Sounds like fun."
