Kohala Coast, Hawaii | Evening | Sunday | February 20

As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

"Who says I need to ask?" Nathan raised an eyebrow and took a few more sips of her drink before leaning back in his chair and getting a nice, long look at that exposed back.

"See, no checking needed," he added, smirking at her. "You've a very nice back, Caroline. Not that I doubted it or needed to tell you but since I've just taken a gander, I can add my accolades to the list that I'm sure you've received. Nathan seal of approval."

"Does that mean I get to smack you?" Caroline replied, looking more like she was just thinking about it to herself rather than inquiring his opinion. "I mean, you just totally looked to see if I have hair on my back after all." So gross and how dare he.

"Or maybe I just looked at your back," Nathan said, idly rubbing his thumb along her hand since he could and all. And no, it wasn't a distraction, it was something a lot more innocent that that. So there, Caroline.

"It's not like I was expecting you to be some Italian plumber with a coat of hair all up and down your back," Nathan pointed out, shaking his head. "I just wanted to look. Is that so bad?"

It would have been innocent if she didn't find it totally distracting away from her slight annoyance.

"No," she said, glancing at his hold on her hand. She thought it was kind of stupid how it made her voice seem happier when she spoke. "I mean, it's not like I can fault you for finding me attractive. Or for being drawn in to look. But I mean, it's not like you haven't seen all that and more before."

Nathan didn't even realize he was distracting her with the hand holding and light touch of his thumb. Mostly, he'd just wanted to touch her and he remembered that she'd said she liked being touched awhile back.

"You make it sound like I'm a chronic window shopper or something," Nathan said, raising an eyebrow. "I take a quick look and then I'm off to get a fucking latte or something because I've lost interest. I'm not one of the fucking fossils on that shit movie about grandmothers having sex with stupid men."

Was it a surprise that he'd seen that one? Probably.

"I am not a fossil, I am not a window shopper and it is not a hardship to look at you no matter what I've already seen. So there."

Caroline rolled her eyes at his little schooling and reached up to pat his cheek solidly. "I meant that you've seen me practically naked on many, many occasions. That whole roommate thing." And her inability to decide what to wear without trying on five outfits first.

"I wasn't even talking about all the 'window shopping' you do." Or that her roommate was one of his previous purchases.

"And what's so wrong about having almost seen you naked on many, many occasions?" Nathan asked, leaning a little closer to her. She was sitting right next to him and he was just going to take advantage of that for the moment.

"It's a good look for you," he said, taking an appreciative glance at her, gaze lingering a little longer than usual before he smiled again. "And you don't really seem to mind the fact that I've seen you almost naked several times. Kinda become commonplace. And still, I like it."

"Excuse you," she said, smirking just a bit. "There is nothing commonplace about me. And why should I mind?" It wasn't like Caroline had a whole lot of shame. Not the way she was flirtatiously bumping his shoulder with her own as she pushed her hair back over her shoulder.

Or you know, still holding his hand.

"No, no, no, I didn't say you were commonplace," he said, shaking a finger at her. "I said the act of seeing you almost naked was commonplace. There was nothing included in there about you specifically being commonplace so I think you should apologize for your unfair assumption about me."

And he hadn't let go of her hand either. If anything, he'd tightened his grip slightly and given her shoulder a bump of his own.

"I apologize," she said, sticking her tongue out at him in a very mature manner. "Considering we're at the beach for a week, though, I think the idea of being fully dressed is kind of insane. Unless it rains and that would suck."

Oh, she was just damn lucky didn't try and flick her tongue or something equally as annoying. Instead, he mimicked the gesture since it wasn't like he was mature or anything.

"I accept your very heartfelt apology," he said, nodding. "And I do support your philosophy as well. It's very comforting to hear you talk about wearing as little clothes as possible on the very first day. I wasn't so sure about a tropical vacation, all things considered but I think you have just convinced me it's worth it being here for a week. What would I do without you?"

"Fall into a drunken coma and likely never leave this bar," Caroline suggested, giving his hand a little tug toward her as she grinned, not wanting him to think she meant anything mean by it.

That future didn't actually sound too bad to him. He could deal with playing the drunken pervert in a Hawaiian bar if worst came to worst. But, there were other things to focus on right now.

Nathan let his hand be tugged and moved a little closer with it. She hadn't used that much strength but he didn't care, he'd just move closer because he wanted to.

"Would you sit at my bedside and mourn my vegetative state?" he wondered teasingly. "I think I would be able to sense your presence even if I was in some limbo land. And if you added in some sponge baths, my limbo would be a much better place."

"You would not sense my presence," she told him, rolling her eyes despite her amusement. "But sure, I would sit at your bedside and give you a monthly sponge bath complete with haircut to keep you from turning into some Irish Jesus."

Because that would be less than attractive.

"I so would sense your presence!" Nathan insisted even if he had no idea. He just tapped the side of his head with a finger. "There's a lot more going on in here then you think. Then anyone thinks, really!"

That might actually be true though Nathan refused to think about his depths in too much detail. That involved a lot of introspection.

"And I would miss you if I was in a coma," Nathan told her, nodding. "Sensing your presence wouldn't be nearly as fucking good as the real thing. The real thing's much, much better."

"Alcoholic coma or not, you're going to be missing me a lot this week," Caroline pointed out. "It's weird having a different roommate. And not one I should try not to tempt with too much nudity."

"Just because we're not in the same room doesn't mean I can't see you," Nathan pointed out. They were seeing each other right now, weren't they? That counted. "Unless, you know, you need a break from me. That could be arranged too even if it would make me sad to do."

"I don't need a break, Nathan," Caroline assured him. "Besides, I feel like I just had one." Being all those days of avoiding or ignoring him last week.

"Aww, did you miss me while we were trying to ignore each other?" Nathan asked, smiling at that. "I hope you didn't try and use a battery powered substitute because there's no real replacement for the real fucking thing."

"Did we have sex and I missed it?" Caroline asked. "Because I didn't think there was anything going on that I needed a replacement for."

Nathan just made a face at her for that one and sat back in his chair, eyes up on the sky for the moment.

"And how sad I am that we haven't," he sighed, tugging her hand back towards him now. "But no, we haven't done anything like that and you wouldn't forget it if we had. I was just joking on you."

"I know," Caroline grinned and leaned over into his space to try and kiss him on the cheek. "I'm sure you're suffering terribly."

Only not, what with that Midwestern whore around.

"I'm resilient," he said quietly, unable not to smile while she kissed his cheek. He hadn't exactly expected that one. He liked it anyway. "You should do that again."

"Fine, but only 'cause you asked nicely and I know how difficult that can be for you," Caroline teased, leaning in to give him another kiss on the cheek.

"Hey, I ask nicely for a lot of things!" Nathan insisted but didn't try and move from that second kiss on the cheek. It was nice to be back on...sort of even footing after their rocky last week.

"Want me to repay the favor?" Nathan asked once she'd kissed his cheek and he could look over at her again. "You wouldn't even have to ask nicely. Just...express interest. I can take it from there."
