As the sun gave way to the moon, the lights around the Big Island started coming on, brightening up the dark sky. Night falling just meant several new ways for the guests to enjoy themselves! A slight wind ruffled the palm trees but the temperature remained warm, making it comfortable enough to take long walks on the beach or just enjoy gazing up at the clear night sky.

There was still plenty to do, though! Nighttime activities were starting to swing into motion, music was wafting along the breeze, drawing people towards it's rhythmic sounds, and the smells of Hawaiian dishes were prevalent.

It was nighttime in Hawaii and the vacation had just begun!

"Hey, I ask nicely for a lot of things!" Nathan insisted but didn't try and move from that second kiss on the cheek. It was nice to be back on...sort of even footing after their rocky last week.

"Want me to repay the favor?" Nathan asked once she'd kissed his cheek and he could look over at her again. "You wouldn't even have to ask nicely. Just...express interest. I can take it from there."

"I'd say I'm interested," Caroline replied, intrigued by how Nathan intended on repaying her. He wasn't usually the one-for-one type.

If Nathan's smile was any indication, that was the right answer. And see, he even had an idea that he thought might be both good for repayment and fun for the both of them.

"Close your eyes," he requested quietly, half smiling. "You can't watch, just feel. Them's the terms of the repayment. Eyes closed and don't look. Gonna have to trust me."

Caroline eyed him warily for a moment. "This so goes against my better judgment," she told him, closing her eyes and trying to listen for hints at what he might be doing before she felt it.

"You're just going to have to trust me," he chanted, reaching for her drink again since it was needed for this little bit of repayment. Besides, he thought (or maybe he hoped) she'd feel better about this once he got on with it.

Nathan finally let go of her hand only so he could shift it some, turning it until he could see the inside of her wrist. He checked her eyes to make sure she still wasn't looking before dipping two fingers into her drink and letting the fruity concoction drip onto her wrist.

"Don't peek," he said as he did that, still watching her.

She twitched at the first drop, not having expected that. "Please tell me you're not spitting on me," Caroline told him, knowing that wasn't the case because there weren't horrific noises accompanying the coolness of the liquid dripping on her skin.

"I save for my spitting for overpasses," Nathan said, smirking. "There's nothing more rewarding than getting the chance to hock one on a fancy, foreign car."

But no, he wasn't spitting on her. He did drip some more of that liquid onto her wrist before raising said wrist to his mouth and licking it slowly off.

Yep. That was his form of repayment. He couldn't just go for a cheek kiss like she had. He decided that she deserved to feel just a little bit more.

Peeking just a little to watch him, Caroline tried to hold very still, not wanting to ruin it. "Oh now isn't that a lovely sentiment to go along with you licking my wrist," she teased.

Nathan could have admonished her for peeking but he didn't. Instead, he stopped for a minute, eyebrows going up.

"You want me to stop?" he asked curiously. "If it's too much for you, I can stop, Caroline. I don't mind."

"I didn't say that," Caroline corrected. "Though I might have to frown at you if I end up all sticky with alcohol."

She said alcohol, Nathan.

"I'll make certain your wrist doesn't end up sticky with alcohol," Nathan assured her, rubbing a thumb over the inside of her wrist. He seemed to automatically find the pulse point there and settled his thumb on top of it for a few seconds, just feeling it beat.

And since it didn't seem like she wanted him to stop, he lifted her wrist to his mouth again and gave it a slow, smooth lick, tasting both alcohol and skin in there. He liked them both.

She watched him for a moment, totally ignoring that request for her eyes to stay closed now. "I'm surprised you chose wrist," Caroline said thoughtfully. "Amazing how you do that."

She meant surprise her. Let's face it, so many were predictable.

"Why's that surprising?" Nathan asked curiously, keeping his thumb moving up and down her wrist while he talked. "Wrist isn't a good place to lick you?"

He had no shame about phrasing the question like that. And he thought she wouldn't have much shame in answering either.

"I've met you," Caroline pointed out. "And I don't get the impression you're all that used to being slow and respectable about these things." It skewed her expectations for him and left her often surprised.

"Mmm." He shrugged a shoulder and tapped a finger idly against the inside of her wrist, deciding to just watch her for the moment instead of responding. There wasn't much to respond to anyway. She was right.

"I think I like being surprising," he finally said, shrugging a shoulder. "More often than not, it tends to go hand in hand with originality and there is nothing more I like than standing out from a crowd. Fucking posers can stand behind me because they'll never catch up."

"You are very original." There was no denying that much. "I guess that means I shouldn't expect to see you around this week so much as hope you pop up in your surprising way, hmm?"

Nathan preened a little at the compliment, looking a little more smug that he had been. Original was always going to be a compliment with him even if someone meant it negatively.

"I think the best thing to say is I plan on being around," he answered, nodding. "I'm really not a stay in the room type and I'm pretty sure my roommate's a bed wetter so even less of a reason to be in there. I am sympathetic to his problem but he's a big boy, he can deal with his own issues. I'll buy him a fucking self help book or something with an introduction by some famous bed wetter. No need for me to be there."

And tomorrow night, he'd so be finding another place to sleep. "But yeah, I plan on being around. Beach, bar, lounge, club, pool, whatever. It's not like I'm gonna be a stranger to any of those places. How's that for an answer?"

It was a terrible answer, but Caroline wasn't going to tell him that. Nathan could just figure it out on his own.

"Good. I'll be sure to say hi if I happen to see you around." Or be sure to flirt with someone else in front of him because really, she'd been fishing for an invite out and had been sorely denied.

"Just hi?" Nathan repeated, raising an eyebrow. Unfortunately, he'd missed the subtle hints she'd dropped but really, he didn't think he could be blamed that much. This sort of thing was so new to him.

"Nothing else?" he asked, sounding the slightest bit confused now.

"What?" It was Caroline's turn to be confused. "Did you want me to kiss your cheek whenever I say hi?" He should want at least that, but he was kind of messing with her mind here.

"Well, yeah, of course, but I just don't think you'd do that even if I did want it," Nathan said honestly. He shrugged a shoulder and let go of her wrist and hand.

"No, hi's fine. Yeah, totally fine," he said, nodding. "We can wave at each other in passing and then go on about our merry way. You won't kiss my cheek each time and I'm sure I'll be on my way somewhere spiffy. That works, yeah."

Nathan knew he didn't sound bitter there but maybe he sounded a little more sarcastic than he could have. Odd. Feelings weren't supposed to slip out even if they were sarcastic ones.

Caroline rolled her eyes at him and leaned up to kiss his cheek. Unlike him, she hadn't been sarcastic with her offer. "Fine, dumbass, be satisfied with hi when I was offering you more."

At this rate, she was so never getting laid.

"I said I wanted that, didn't I?" Nathan asked, staring at her now. The second part had been a little sarcastic because he'd gotten a little off the rails but the first part had been genuine.

"Not thinking you'll do it is not the same as not wanting it," he retorted and...leaned across the chairs and kissed her cheek too. For some reason. He didn't know but it seemed like the thing to do. "I'm not a fucking dumbass."

Yes, he was. He was a dumbass who was trying hard but still a dumbass.

"Yes you are," she said, turning to try and catch his lips for a light kiss. They were still at the bar, after all. Caroline pulled back and smiled at him. "Consider that a reason to come find me and make me say hi."

Nathan wanted to ask why he was a dumbass or what she knew that he didn't seem to know. He asked neither, though.

"You should do that again," he said, using a tactic from earlier. "One more and I'll leave you alone and you can be secure in the knowledge that I'll be convincing and persuasive when I see you next."
