The Crown Princess - Monday [Ship/Princess Cays, Bahamas]

Early in the morning, the cruise director came over the loudspeaker announcing the port of the day and some on-boat activities of interest. Those paying attention would learn that from 9am until 5pm, the Crown Princess would be docked in the lovely Princess Cays, Bahamas where guests were welcome to participate in glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, or beach excursions for a portion of the day. Adults were encouraged toward the Sanctuary on the Sun Deck for a more private way to relax away from the teens.

[OOC: The Princess Bridge Cam is fantastic. Cabins Post | Star Deck | Sun Deck | Promenade Deck | Cays Cruise | Snorkeling | Beach]

Amazed, Penelope was enthralled by the beautiful ocean life, standing and staring with wide eyes at the fish that would swim past under her feet. She just might take this guided tour twice.

"There are a lot of fish," Ned said, glancing over at Penelope. "I've only really seen goldfish up close."

"They're beautiful," she replied in a soft, awestruck voice. "I've never seen fish at all. Perhaps in a picture book when I was a little girl."

"They're really colorful," Ned said and tapped his foot against the boat to see if the fish would react. The fish were far too concerned with fish goings on. "I had a goldfish once. It was tiny. And orange. And not...like these. I've never seen so many colors."

She peeked up at him, and smiled. "Did you name it?"

"Mr. Fish," he said and blushed. "I wasn't really creative. And I didn't want to give a name he might hate so I went with Mr. Fish since he was probably used to that."

Pause.

"I think about that now and know that he probably would have liked any name I gave him."

"He most likely respected your manners," she replied, grinning.

She nodded.

"I would think most pet fishes would. I take it that Mr. Fish is no longer... swimming?" That was her polite way of asking 'Is he dead?'

"Yeah, he's gone," Ned said, having let his mother do the...burying of a sort and thus negating Ned's ability. "I was just a kid. I had him before I had Digby. He was my first pet. I'm sure Digby's glad I didn't call him Mr. Dog."

Penelope laughed then hurriedly corrected that impression. "I'm sorry; I am not amused that your fish is gone, but that you didn't name your dog Mr. Dog. I do think their perceptive skills rank higher than fishies." She glanced down, then back up to him. "Then again, I don't know much about either. Do you think there are fish shows out there, like dog shows?"

"I dunno," Ned said after some thought. "I haven't heard of any but I haven't really looked either and the world's a big place. I'd want to show off my fish if I had one like this."

He peered down at the colorful fish, big and small. "They can probably do fish tricks, too."

She peered down again and smiled. There were some pretty big fish. "I bet they like being free. The ocean is so big and being free is so important. But I bet there are some fish that would like to be kept also. Maybe they're afraid down there. Afraid of...sharks. I would be if I were a fish."

"Oh god, I'm terrified of sharks," he said, glad to have found a kindred spirit. "And I know they're probably not...mean but they're made out to be so scary."

"I think they're mean. They're predators after all. Were I down there swimming, they would eat me," she said with clear determination, and perhaps a touch of naivety. Then she whispered at him, "They stalk you."

"This is so cool," Hurley said to Penelope.

"I know," she commented. "Aren't the fish so pretty?"

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Hurley said. "Kinda makes you rethink eating tuna sandwiches."

She giggled. "Or lobster."

"Never had any lobster," Hurley said. "Though... they're kinda not so pretty, anyway."

Penelope looked at him, blinked, and then looked back down at the glass bottom of the boat. "So many fish and the color of the water is so pretty."

Hurley nodded. "Totally," he said. "Oh look, yellow ones." He pointed.

"Yellow and blue and orange. They are gorgeous and free."

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Man," Hurley said. "I can't even describe how awesome this is."

"You are enjoying yourself then, Hurley?" she asked, peeking up at him.

"Yeah," he said. "And... I'm glad you're here with me, seeing this."

She sidled in, nudging him a little. "Best place to be."
