The Crown Princess - Monday [Ship/Princess Cays, Bahamas]

Early in the morning, the cruise director came over the loudspeaker announcing the port of the day and some on-boat activities of interest. Those paying attention would learn that from 9am until 5pm, the Crown Princess would be docked in the lovely Princess Cays, Bahamas where guests were welcome to participate in glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, or beach excursions for a portion of the day. Adults were encouraged toward the Sanctuary on the Sun Deck for a more private way to relax away from the teens.

[OOC: The Princess Bridge Cam is fantastic. Cabins Post | Star Deck | Sun Deck | Promenade Deck | Cays Cruise | Snorkeling | Beach]

"Mr. Fish," he said and blushed. "I wasn't really creative. And I didn't want to give a name he might hate so I went with Mr. Fish since he was probably used to that."

Pause.

"I think about that now and know that he probably would have liked any name I gave him."

"He most likely respected your manners," she replied, grinning.

She nodded.

"I would think most pet fishes would. I take it that Mr. Fish is no longer... swimming?" That was her polite way of asking 'Is he dead?'

"Yeah, he's gone," Ned said, having let his mother do the...burying of a sort and thus negating Ned's ability. "I was just a kid. I had him before I had Digby. He was my first pet. I'm sure Digby's glad I didn't call him Mr. Dog."

Penelope laughed then hurriedly corrected that impression. "I'm sorry; I am not amused that your fish is gone, but that you didn't name your dog Mr. Dog. I do think their perceptive skills rank higher than fishies." She glanced down, then back up to him. "Then again, I don't know much about either. Do you think there are fish shows out there, like dog shows?"

"I dunno," Ned said after some thought. "I haven't heard of any but I haven't really looked either and the world's a big place. I'd want to show off my fish if I had one like this."

He peered down at the colorful fish, big and small. "They can probably do fish tricks, too."

She peered down again and smiled. There were some pretty big fish. "I bet they like being free. The ocean is so big and being free is so important. But I bet there are some fish that would like to be kept also. Maybe they're afraid down there. Afraid of...sharks. I would be if I were a fish."

"Oh god, I'm terrified of sharks," he said, glad to have found a kindred spirit. "And I know they're probably not...mean but they're made out to be so scary."

"I think they're mean. They're predators after all. Were I down there swimming, they would eat me," she said with clear determination, and perhaps a touch of naivety. Then she whispered at him, "They stalk you."

"Do they?" Ned bit his lip and looked down. "Maybe...maybe the other fish know how to combat sharks since they're used to them?"

"Like...fin them in the eye?" she asked, her lips twisting in a small, contained grin.

"Maybe!" Ned thought about it. "Or maybe they're a lot faster than the shark and the shark gets tired quickly and has to stop and rest and the fish can swim on and be safe?"

"Yes! And then they get with their school of fishes and it's like one great big huge fish against the shark, and it decides to completely give up," she said. "Maybe the shark is really a chicken at heart."

"Just a big ocean bully who's jealous of the other fish because they have friends and the shark doesn't," Ned proposed. "It wants friends so it tries to showoff and get people to like him by intimidation."

"One day it will take one tough fish to show him the error of his ocean bully ways, and melt his heart," she said, brows arched. "This fish will become famous. A famous fish of the sea. Perhaps we even glimpsed this fish in passing," she added, tapping her toe to the glass bottom. "How special are we, hm, Ned?"

"We saw history in the making, I say that makes us very special," he said with a firm nod. "First two people to see the famous fish who usurps the shark bullies? That's very important."

She giggled. "Very important. We should have plaques declaring it so."

"And badges!" Maybe he just wanted a badge. "I almost said sash but I think sashes might get worn and lost over the years."

"Oooh, we could have ranks!" Ned decided. "You can be Captain."

"No, you can!" she exclaimed brightly. "You're taller." It made sense!

"Captain Ned?" he said, unable to deny that he liked the sound of it. "So, you can be....Sergeant Penelope?"

"Best title ever," she stated. "We should get hats. With a big blue fish emblem embroidered on the front." Pause. "Maybe with an orange stripe."

"Ooooh." Ned rubbed his chin. "I wonder if the island shops have a customization place. I know places in the US have things like that. I bet this place would for souvenir purposes."

Penelope bounced. "Oooh, I would love that."

"I'll check it out if I ever get over that way," he promised. "And maybe they'll know more about how the fish survive with the bullies."
