Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, Québec City, Québec [Wednesday Evening]

Rumor had it there was a big room party happening on Wednesday night, but there were also still options for those looking for something a little more private to do, or just less party-minded.

The weather was mostly behaving as well, although perhaps with a light, refreshing sprinkling of rain here and there.

Halfway through the trip, people, try not to miss out on any Québécois fun!

A drag cabaret not too far from the hotel seemed like the kind of place Steph had to go, and although the drag brunch wasn't until the weekend they did have karaoke night on Wednesday. And her doing karaoke was a prime opportunity for Vi to give her all the shit in the world, so who was Steph to deny her such a gift?

Steph was absolutely not by any stretch of the imagination a singer, but see if that stopped her from hamming it up on stage to Joan Jett.

Vi truly appreciated the gift she had been given. You could tell from the combination of wolf-whistling and boos while clapping.

Steph beamed and, after finishing her latest round of extravagant air-drumming interspersed with high kicks for some reason, blew a kiss at her.

"Gonna take a turn?"

"What would I even sing?" That wasn't a no.

"You don't have to," Steph assured her, hopping off the stage and sitting back down beside her, "but there's a huge collection of songs to choose from. Though it would be hilarious if you did, like, Hot to Go or something."

Vi slung her arm around Steph's shoulders, because she wanted to and also because she hadn't been the only girl wolf-whistling during that performance.

"I trust you to pick out something I'd know." Given how much of her Earth music knowledge came from Steph one way or the other.

Steph leaned in and put her head on Vi's shoulder, and she wasn't going to point out that at least two of those other whistlers had been kind of mocking about it. Mostly because she didn't care if they were.

"I cannot be seen in public with you if you do a Taylor Swift song," she said lightly. "That's the rules, sorry babe."

She would not enforce said rules if Vi was really set on it though.

Just know that Vi would've been perfectly willing to start knocking heads on Steph's behalf if she had.

As it was, she grinned beatifically as she kissed Steph and stood up. "So what you're saying is you really want me to sing Taylor Swift," she said as she headed towards the stage.

Oh, Steph knew. And since she really didn't want them to get kicked out of the city or anything like that, she wouldn't have let on even if it had bothered her.

She sighed and rubbed a hand over her face, only mostly for show.

"You're lucky you're adorable and I love you," she called after Vi.

Because honestly.

Look, Vi was working on her anger issues, but there was some very deep seated rage there.

"I love you too," Vi called back, before engaging in a few minutes of quiet conversation with the person in charge of the music and taking to the stage.

Hey, technically it wasn't a Taylor Swift song she was singing, it was a cover with gayer lyrics.

Rage that was perfectly understandable, if you asked Steph, but she liked to try and give Vi reasons to feel more positive emotions instead.

"The judges will accept the queered-up version, I guess," she yelled, and made a show of shaking her head, grinning.

Judging by how Vi was beaming when she came off the stage and flopped back down next to her, she was doing a pretty good job of that.

"Still willing to be seen in public with me?"

Steph tilted her head and looked thoughtful for a moment, then heaved a dramatic sigh and reached for Vi's hand.

"You're cute, so yes. I guess. I just might have to disclaim that I am not responsible for your taste in music."

Vi gladly took it and squeezed. "And here I was telling everyone I learnt it all from you."

"Hey now. I introduced you to Hayley Kiyoko. I'm not responsible for what the algorithm does from there." Steph brought Vi's hand to her mouth and kissed each knuckle.

"Seriously though, you did great. Proud of you."

"Sure you're not." Vi leaned her head against Steph's shoulder. "This was a a great idea. I'm having a lot of fun."

"Me too." Steph kissed the top of her head. "I get to have adventures with my girl. What's not to love? We are so coming back here this weekend, before we leave, by the way."

"Okay," Vi agreed easily. "And we've still got our fancy dinner."

She was pretty sure she'd spent more on her outfit for that than on clothes in her life, which admittedly wasn't that high a bar to clear, but was still vaguely intimidating.

It was intimidating. Steph completely understood that. Thank god they could live for a week off of a single food delivery order back on the island.

"You're going to look so hot." Steph picked up her half finished rum and Coke, raising it to Vi in a toast. "You always do, but you're gonna be next fucking level."

She was a little sad that it was too cold for her to get away with her plan of wearing a fancy dress vest with no shirt underneath.

There was absolutely nothing stopping Steph from wearing that for a dinner in. Well, except maybe the fact they'd never make it as far as dinner.

"You really think so?"

That was literally the only reason Steph had vetoed the idea.

She'd definitely bought the vest for a later date, though.

"I know so," she said, waggling her eyebrows at Vi over the rim of her glass. "It's literally physically impossible for you to not be hot as hell."

Somehow Vi would have to hold out until then.

"I mean, I guess it takes one to know one," Vi said, with a grin. "How do you manage to walk down the street without setting everything on fire?"

Oh, no. Whatever would she do?

Steph laughed. "The nerdiness acts like a dampening layer. Call it a safety precaution."

Indulge her highly active imagination probably.

"No, that can't be it, the nerdiness makes you even hotter." Vi, most people didn't kink on that. Because they were dumb.

There were other ways she could distract herself. With help, even. Just saying.

"Yes, well." Steph feigned a sigh and shook her head. "Some people are losers and don't grasp that."

So basically what the narrative had said.
