Nihi Sumba has more than 27 uniquely designed villas, and we will be staying in five of them. Each villa offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and Nihiwatu Beach, their own plunge pools, personal staff, living areas and kitchens. You don’t have to leave your villas all week! We’d like you to, though.

Maybe she'd skip the Sorbonne and just do a gap year in Indonesia instead...

Around the Resort

You can have meals served at your villas, too, but if you’d like to mingle with more than just your cohort, Nihi offers three world-class restaurants, a large pool, and some of the most spectacular beach-front property in the world.

Ombak

The hub of dining activity is the main, sandy-floored Ombak (meaning wave front) restaurant and bar lounge. Ombak, an exquisitely crafted open-air restaurant, offers a la carte breakfast each morning.

The large outside deck, cantilevered over the ocean, offers relaxed lounge seating.

Gladio would eventually make it out to see how Ignis was taking to that kite surfing (and give it a try for himself), but, after their morning beach run at stupid o'clock, he decided to take to it easy, with a hood breakfast and a good book to read to keep him company. All the physical activity had been great, but it was good to enjoy unwinding in a place like this, too.

He might not be able to get home, but at least he could still go to places like this. Kind of took a little of the sting out of it, really...

Nio Beach Club and Pool

Just bare footsteps from the sea, the Nio Beach Club offers open-aired pavilions serving the highest quality of fresh ingredients: whether it is a fish just caught from sea, delicious vegetables and legumes from our three abundant organic gardens, items from the grill, daily rotisserie, or freshly made pizzas from our wood fired clay oven, the chef and his team will satiate your appetite with delicious, healthy dishes. And the pool looks like this. It’s worth leaving your villa.

Clare was down by the big pool today! Clare had forgotten sunscreen! Clare was going to fry like a sausage today!

But for now, at least, she was very pleased with herself.

The Beach

2.5 kilometers of white sand beach that looks like it’s never been stepped on until you came along. Get a fruity drink and a tan!

While both snorkeling and kite surfing held some appeal, perhaps for later or another day of the trip entirely, Irene was spending today stretched out sleepily on the beach in style. (Probably for the best she wasn't considering kite surfing in that, actually.)

She had a book and a glass of something spritzy, but both were mostly props, since she found the sun made her drowsy. (Never fear; she had set an alarm so she wouldn't burn as she dozed on a lounger.)

It appeared as though Shunsui had managed to migrate to the beach late (very late) that morning, and who knew? Maybe, at this rate, he'd eventually even make a few dalliance into some activities and do something that wasn't lounging, napping, drinking, or taking advantage of the fact that his roommate preferred sleeping in the sea over their bed.

It had taken Amicia two days to leave her room. She felt that was... progress, of a sort. No? It had taken her much longer to leave the dorms at Fandom.

The sight of the sand, it... La Cuna's beaches had been rockier. There had been more grass, and color, but the prevailing sense of peace was the same, and.

She sat down in it, and crossed her legs. She did not think to change into anything as small as her roommate had done. She did not think of much at all, beyond the feeling of the sand between her fingers, and the sight of an ocean that-- that was nothing like the Méditerranée.

Kite Surfing

In addition to regular surfing, the resort offers kite surfing lessons! Everyone take a moment to be grateful Beaker graduated.

Even though he did quite enjoy wind surfing, Cutter had never been kite surfing before so he decided to try his hand at something a bit different and see how this one compared.

Rosa would not be grateful for Beaker having graduated, because that would have really been the cherry on top of this experience.

But she was totally fine with kite surfing otherwise, it was just a little less exciting.

Though, at this point, she was kind of thinking of dropping the whole detective gig and wondering if it was too late to kickstart a nice professional career in surfing...

Ignis had his reservations about giving this a try, but he was also a little excited to experience it, as well, especially in figuring it out just by feel and intuition and a little bit of instruction. Also, he wasn't about to get much out of a scenic hike or snorkling, and he could hardly just spend all his time lounging around the villas and enjoying all the food.

...well, he could, actually, and was quite tempted, but it seemed like such a waste.

He'd even left the glasses back in the room, lest he wind up losing them. Which would hardly be the end of the world, they were entirely for others' benefits, but no need to be unnecessarily careless with such things.

Snorkeling

The reef in front of the resort has a beautiful wall that extends past the channel and is full of colorful coral and marine life.

Blue Waterfall Trek [all day]

Stunning vistas as you descend into the Wanukaka Valley are a highlight of this 45-minute drive to Matayangu, the Blue Waterfall. After parking at the start of the trail, we begin a 1h30 trek led by local guides through the pristine Indonesian National Park to the blue lagoon at the base of the waterfall, where one might spot wildlife such as the long-tailed Macaques, reticulated pythons, the Nusa Tenggara fly catchers, and Citrus Crested Cockatoos.

As the trail emerges from the jungle, the sheer size and scale of the waterfall basin is truly worth the walk. While you soak in your surroundings, guides will set up a picnic for a leisurely snack. You can spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing and swimming in this beautiful setting before trekking back to the vehicle. We recommend packing a sarong, swimsuit, extra shirt, sunscreen, camera, and sturdy shoes.
