Washington, DC [Friday, May 5th, 2017]

It was a beautiful, crisp, clear day in Washington, DC. The spring flowers were blooming, but the pollen count was reasonable. Hoards of kids bussed in from the suburbs were laughing on the Mall and spilling out from the various Smithsonian museums.

There was so sign at all in this universe that Donald Trump had ever existed.

Steve had pulled a few strings with SHIELD, and there were various private tours set up around town by people eager to impress Captain America. Steve...would mostly be avoiding those in a vain attempt to stay under the radar. His ball cap, light jacket and jeans screamed "leave me alone" to anyone who spoke superhero, even if the Brooklyn Dodgers insignia on the hat gave him away more than a little.

Look, Kanan kind of had a reason to be interested in keeping an eye on the development of Earth flight technologies, here. So, when he came across the exhibit about Steve - the one he hadn't mentioned out loud, yes - he needed to kind of stop and gawk for a while.

And then grin.

And then laugh. Just. Laugh forever at the kickline. He was getting dirty looks from other museum patrons, but whatever. This was gold.

Steve, in his Extremely Cunning Disguise, sighed a little behind him. "Never lettin' this go?" he guessed.

"Not as long as I live," Kanan chuckled, turning a grin Steve's way. "You have to admit, it's catchy."

Infectious, even.

"Just don't come crying to me when you're humming the damn thing three days from now," Steve said. "I'm immune to it by now."

That...wasn't entirely true.

"I'm sure you are," Kanan laughed. "And all the stars and stripes? What's that about?"

Look, Kanan wasn't exactly the sort to pay close attention to flags and things, these days.

"America's flag is red and white stripes with white stars on a blue field," Steve said. "I'm Captain America."

There was a brief pause, then he hurriedly added, "I didn't pick the first uniform."

"Oh, kriff, I hope you didn't," Kanan snorted, shaking his head. "Steve, my man, that outfit is definitely something. And I say this as a guy who grew up in robes."

"Actual tights," Steve said, shaking his head. He pointed to the display with the Howling Commandos. "I had more input on that version."

"I should hope so, if you're wearing it into actual fights, tights probably aren't the way to go."

Not that it stopped a lot of Jedi, granted.

...that was more than Steve needed to know about Jedi clothing habits.

"I don't know," Steve mused. "I knew a lady who packed a punch in heels and nylons."

"Fair enough," Kanan replied, smirking a little. "Can you back a punch in heels and nylons?"

"That is a story that remains in France," Steve said airily. "And classified."

"I promise you what I'm filling in with my imagination is far worse than whatever it is you probably did in France," Kanan laughed. "Especially while that kickline is playing on loop."

Catchy song and all.

Kanan would be humming it for days!

"Well, enjoy yourself, then," Steve said with a smirk. He glanced around the exhibit, shaking his head. "Still can't believe they thought I was interesting enough for a museum exhibit."

"Well, between the stars and the song and dance number, you're practically set for a life in the holos," Kanan drawled. And then grinned and shook his head. "I'd advise you to just sit back and bask in the being appreciated, but let's be real, I'd freak out if it was me on that screen right now."

"Holos?" Steve replied. "Is that like movies? Because there's probably some footage of those newsreels, too."

"Like the movies," Kanan confirmed. "Just a little more... three-dimensional. You'd probably get a kick out of them, come to think of it. They've got less you in them, anyway."

"That just makes 'em better," Steve said. "As an actor, I was a very good soldier. Wasn't much for the dancing monkey part of the job."

"Well, you've got spirit," Kanan noted, shrugging his shoulders. "I don't need to have served by you to be able to see that much. Not many people who are wired that way want to be playing spangly showman when they could be making an actual difference out there."

He'd been like that once, too.

He'd grown out of it. Forcibly.

Steve smiled and tugged a little bit at his hat, embarrassed.

"The current uniform is much less...spangly," he said.

"I'm sure anybody you've punched in the face since getting it is thankful," Kanan replied. "What's the current one like? They have a picture of it here?"

Hell yes, he was looking around some more.

"No," Steve said. "Next time I put in on, I'll stop by the diner, okay?"

"I'm sure the kitchen staff would get a kick out of that," Kanan offered, smirking. "Sure, next time you're wearing it on a Sunday, swing on by. If I had anything equivalent, I'd offer to wear it in return, but what you see is pretty much what you get, these days, with me."

There was no force (or Force) shy of the island pulling shenanigans that could get him into Jedi robes ever again.

Steve laughed. "That's fine. One of these days I'll get Tony in his suit too and really get everyone to look at us funny."

"Now that, I'd have to see. You manage that one, both of you swing by the diner and lunch is on me," Kanan laughed. "Why the hell not?"
