Riften, Skyrim, Saturday Afternoon/Evening

Temperatures had taken a tangible dive over the past day or so, though Riften did not quite reach the depths you might remember from Rorikstead. The marketplace had been almost cleared of all rubbish from the festivities last night, and most of the Nords had slept off their hangovers and begun, however carefully, to return to city life.

Time, then, for your last evening in Skyrim. Try and enjoy it.

Isabelle was on her way out for the evening, but she couldn't help stopping by when she happened to spot Isaac.

"Hello, stranger."

Isaac, who was tearing into a rabbit haunch like he was a wild animal or something. "Mmph."

That was a 'hi' or something like it.

Isabelle was very impressed by that.

"I'm doing my best to refrain from dog jokes."

Or maybe not.

Isaac chewed and swallowed. "It's good!"

"I'll take your word for it," Isabelle replied, nodding slowly. Because she was kind of a princess in some respects, despite having been out doing simple construction with the rest of them earlier in the week. "Me, I've been enjoying baked goods more."

"Those are good too," he said with a nod. "I'm not much for this destination but I do like the food."

"This place is a little too chilly and medieval for my taste," she agreed with a glance around. "But, I've had fun, too. I guess it balances itself out, even though I'll be taking an hour-long shower when we get back to modern day civilization."

"I don't blame you," he said. "I'll probably be doing the same thing. And hugging my laptop and saying I'll never leave it again."

"I suppose this is better," Isabelle mused, pushing some of her hair behind her ear, "than if we were somewhere like Bali again. Going home would be harder."

"True," he said with a nod. "Maybe this is a trick to make us appreciate the island more."

"Do you think it's working?"

Because it was working in some respects, for her. Less in others. It had been a pretty uneven experience.

Isaac shrugged. "The island's better than the alternative of my hometown so I'm not complaining."

"It's that bad, hmm?" she asked, raising her eyebrows a little. "I suppose it's all a matter of perspective, then."

Fandom was better for her than New York right now too, though.

"If you've been to Beacon Hills you'd agree with me," he said. "Got an offer to move to France after graduation though, so that's cool."

And weird. And slightly inappropriate.

That eyebrow raise was getting upgraded from 'a little' to 'a lot'.

"Really? Who from?"

"Uh." How to put this? "My dead friend-slash-sort-of-girlfiend's father."

"... I feel like I've missed a lot here at some point."

That happened when everyone had a ton of depressing drama happening all at once.

He shrugged again. "Shit went down a few months ago. It's done with now."

Isaac decided he was going to be a manly man without feelings about this, apparently.

And Isabelle wasn't the type to pry a whole lot. Or, okay, maybe she would have been if she hadn't had a lot of her own stuff she didn't want to get into.

"I'm sorry for your loss," she said, and that much was sincere, at least.

"It's okay," he said when it really wasn't. "Comes with the whole supernatural territory, doesn't it? I should learn to expect it by now."

"That doesn't make it any easier," Isabelle replied. "I think it actually makes it harder."

Or maybe that was just her.
