Riften, Skyrim, Saturday Afternoon/Evening

Temperatures had taken a tangible dive over the past day or so, though Riften did not quite reach the depths you might remember from Rorikstead. The marketplace had been almost cleared of all rubbish from the festivities last night, and most of the Nords had slept off their hangovers and begun, however carefully, to return to city life.

Time, then, for your last evening in Skyrim. Try and enjoy it.

The Bee and Barb is considerably larger than Frostfruit, warmer, and built out of sturdy wood. Its rooms are larger and more lavish as a result, provide a tub of their own - though you'll have to go downstairs to get heated water for it - and even have their own small walled-off bucket-toilet area. Said bucket-toilet actually has a comfortable seat and is cleaned out twice a day, so that's a step up, isn't it?

There are either two twin beds or one queen bed to a room. Minor healing and resistance to frost potions are provided in the room, and the maid makes sure there's lavender flowers in each room, providing a pleasant smell.

Alana was triumphant from the drinking contest win, but still a bit sick. She dealt with it by curling up in her room under a blanket, mug of tea at hand. She read and dozed alternately as the afternoon slipped into evening.

The Bee and Barb Inn - Common Room

The Bee and Barb's common room is larger than Frostfruit's, and while it doesn't contain a central fire pit, there are sconces everywhere keeping the place at a comfortable level of heat. It doesn't hurt that Riften is further south than Rorikstead, either.

Serving you is the Argonian Talen-Jei and his equally-lizardlike barkeeper Keerava. Neither peddles in dog meat, but many of the other delicacies of Skyrim are available. The local specialty is cheese. And fish. Lots of fish. Also, Talen-Jei is a connoisseur of cocktails, so if you want something really special to drink, ask him for suggestions!

Most notably, the warrior Mjoll the Lioness likes to sit here during the evenings, telling tales of her travels in Riften.

Atton'd finally gone shopping and pocketed some potions that were supposed to make his 'swordsmanship' better, whatever the hell that meant, but that was about everything he'd done outside of the inn.

Who needed to leave, anyway? He had all the terrible-looking amazing-tasting weird cocktails here that he needed.

Gwen had learned her lesson about being out alone at night, and that was something she was going to have to work on after vacation, so she was sticking to the common room tonight. She was kind of getting bored without TV by now, so she was instead listening to Mioll, because this was totally the next best thing.

Flick didn't feel like doing too much tonight. It'd been a pretty decent vacation so he'd end it by sitting in the common room with some food and listening to the goings on around him.

Sarah hadn't moved from here a whole lot in the last few days. Sure, she'd gone and taken a look around a few times, but this place was like The Fortress, so she was naturally drawn to it.

And its dodgy-looking cocktails. It seemed like a night to have a few of those.

Isaac was really looking forward to getting back to normal civilization, but he was gonna miss the Viking-like food. It made him feel all manly and stuff.

Outside Riften

Visitors to Winterhold might come pouring back in across late afternoon and evening. For those who stayed in Riften, however, a shorter excursion has been planned for the afternoon. It'll be your last, so try and enjoy it!

Or just go on out by yourself.

Outside Riften - Eastmarch

To the north of the Rift lays the Hold of Eastmarch, one of the Old Holds. Maurice Jondrelle takes you on a journey northwards, through fields full of geysers and other visible signs of volcanic activity.

His path takes you first to Eldergleam Sanctuary, home to the sacred Eldergleam Tree. He stays there for a short while to commune with the tree; giving it disrespect will not end well for anyone.

On the trip back, he stops for a considerable amount of time at an abandoned camp. As it turns out, the pools strewn about the camp are natural hot springs, used frequently by the Nords. They are very shallow, and Maurice invites all to try it should they wish to.

Sure, Ed could have gone to investigate about mages at Winterhold, and he could have even marveled a bit over the giant bloody tree, but the truth was he was only on this trip for one thing: the hot springs.

He had absolutely no issue taking off his kit and sliding down into one. There. That was something his fading hangover could appreciate.

The trip to the tree place had been cool but the natural hot springs really drew Travis in. After some debate, he stripped off his shirt and pants, leaving him in shorts and slipped in. It wasn't like Jeremy Pratt's (he had to stop thinking of it like that) body was a bad one, after all.

Explore The Area Outside Riften

It's not too cold out here, and the forest surrounding Riften offers quite a nice walk. And if that's not quite your speed, well, for the more shopping-minded, there's a Khajit caravan camped right outside the gates. The management cautions against ingesting too much Skooma.

Adventuring

While there are no giants near Riften, there are certainly dragons, and the many forts in the area are host to bandits. Even walking in the forests can turn out badly thanks to the local wildlife, such as bears, wolves, and Frostbite Spiders.

Anders hadn't intended to find any trouble. He was just wandering along on a forest path, trying to identify plants with magical uses from a book he'd picked up in Winterhold, when a trio of frostbite spiders descended on him.

Luckily, they didn't like fireballs any better than the spiders at home did. But he still beat a retreat back to the inn as soon as they were vanquished.

By the time all excursions come to an end, it's late enough that it's dark out, and most of the stores have closed down. Still, the city itself is well-lit, and there's plenty of opportunities for entertainment to be found.

Don't want to dine at the Bee and Barb? You can find food elsewhere. Most of the stalls are closed, but in the fishery district, there are still plenty of places where you can buy grilled salmon steaks or mudcrab legs. You can find tables overlooking the water and the far-away forests around the district, too.

Or maybe you'd rather see what else Riften has to offer in terms of drinking and amusement. The Black-Briar Meadery is famous throughout Skyrim; grab a few bottles here and then retreat to the balcony, where you can party with the hard-working workers of the meadery.

Returning to the Ragged Flagon seemed like a terrible idea - even for Edward.

Instead he made it to the meadery. Sort of the same thing, much more civilized, everyone composing themselves as gentlemen. (And gentlewomen, he supposed.)

At least being out at the hot springs had brought back the cheerful mood he'd lost yesterday.

There'd been an insufficient amount of mead during Isabelle's break. It seemed like the time to finally fix that while she still could.

And if that also involved being charming at some locals, all the better. She had someone to go back to at the end of the night, but there was absolutely no harm in engaging in some harmless flirting.

Or you could explore the city itself. Half of Riften - the Dryside - is built on the banks of the Lake Honrich, near the beautiful Autumnal Forest. In fact, the forest itself encroaches on the city, as you can find many beautiful trees throughout the Dryside. It's separated from the Dockside region by a large canal. The Dockside itself has been constructed on top of the lake, sitting on large poles well above the water.

Nathan wanted to be outside. It was where he felt most comfortable and with the sun going down and the moon coming up, he felt powerful. He found himself walking on the Dryside, along Lake Honrich slowly and quietly.

EVENING: The Ratway

No one in Riften is going to just point you here, but the Ratway is an important part of the city's infrastructure. It's a complex maze of tunnels underneath the city that can be accessed through doorways in the lower areas of the canal. Here, you'll find the Ragged Flagon, the pub that is a popular destination for most of Riften's thieves and mercenaries.
