Riften, Skyrim, Wednesday Afternoon/Evening

In comparison to Rorikstead, Riften is a metropolis. Though it has diminished somewhat in glory since the Civil War begun, it remains a large city set in the warmest part of Skyrim. That last part is evident also in the enormous amount of foliage - technically the Autumnal Forest starts just outside Riften's doors, but in reality, trees are found everywhere in the city.

Water, too: Riften was built partly on top of Lake Honrich, and the lake provides both trade lanes and an ever-present source of food for the city.

"And well-behaved," Kitty added. "And awesome."

"As long as no one he dislikes is around," Clint said, half-joking now. "Seriously though, there needs to be like, a dragon destruction squad or something. It's weird thinking about something powerful enough to cause the damage we've seen just... you know, wandering around."

"Yeah," she agreed. "It wasn't that hard to find, and I doubt I'm the only one who did. Everything we just did could be undone if it decides to come back, and maybe do worse. I'm just not sure what to do about it."

"Of course you went looking for it," Clint said, like he totally hadn't. "It's kind of depressing, but the townspeople seem happy nonetheless."

"It works for them," Kitty said. "Like, I kind of get annoyed when people complain too much about the way things are here, because that's some people's way of life you're dissing. It would just help if fewer dragons destroyed fewer things."

"Yeah, they'd probably be a lot more technologically advanced if they didn't have to focus on literally keeping a roof over their heads," Clint said. "Do you think the kids will realize how lucky they are, or is that asking too much of teenagers?"
throughaphase: (taking a moment)

"I'm hoping," she said. "I mean, I know when I was their age I'd appreciate running water and internet more once I got back to it. Remind me to tell you about the time I almost had to live underground. This is nothing. Hopefully they'll see how good we have it too."

"I don't think I've ever been quite badly off enough to live underground. I could never live in one of these cavern cities we've seen," Clint said. "I need to be able to see the sky, you know?" He reached over and grabbed Kitty's hand, giving it a squeeze. "You'll definitely have to tell me that story some time."
throughaphase: (listening to every word)

Kitty squeezed his hand back. "Yeah, we wouldn't want to take you away from your heights."

Because she found it adorable how five years old he got about it.

There just weren't very many things he was willing to admit he needed, that's all. "No we wouldn't. I'd get cranky really fast," Clint said with a laugh. "The sky here has been really awesome to look at. I forgot how much of a haze even the island can put on things, let alone the city."
throughaphase: (about to speak)

"Obviously we're going to have to get to the mountains more," Kitty half-teased. "Or con everyone into making spring break in some sky city somewhere."

Hey remember when it used to be a big deal for them to think that far ahead? Good times, good times.

Yeah, it was strange how not-scary it was to think that far ahead. "I don't necessarily want to drag you to mountains. Spring break, on the other hand, you might be better at convincing the administration, still working at the school and all."
throughaphase: (looking down smiling)

[personal profile] throughaphase 2014-10-10 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Psh, you can drag me just about anywhere," she said, and actually meant it. "I think future staff meetings might get pointed suggestions for the next trip, though, which is why you keep me around."
so_hawkward: ([posi] laughing)

Re: Dining

[personal profile] so_hawkward 2014-10-10 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that's definitely the only reason," Clint said, laughing. "There's nothing else but your connection to the school, and sometimes your willingness to be seen in public with me."
throughaphase: (leaning on the table)

"Nothing at all to do with my brain, personality or looks," Kitty nodded. "I mean, who wants that?"

"Weird but cute," she said oh so helpfully.
