Banyan Tree Resort, Saturday [Morning / Afternoon]

Yesterday's clouds hadn't left the sky: in fact, visitors could expect the odd spot of rain today. Not that the temperature had dropped, rising one degree to 28 celsius - or 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

But don't let the rainclouds chase you off: there was still plenty to do, including an island-hopping cruise arranged especially for the school (Lovey Howell didn't do things by halves). Enjoy yourselves!

Karolina was here, and looking about as bouncy and happy as she had all week. She didn't even mind that it was a bit cloudy, because it was still warmer than Fandom.

Plus there were tortoises!

Oh, it was the girl from the roof.

It felt strangely invasive to start a conversation here amid all the peace and quiet, but Alec was going to try it anyway because it also felt pretty strange to just stand silently amongst a bunch of other people. Social behavior was hard.

"They're really interesting to watch, aren't they?" he asked with a gesture toward the tortoises. "I didn't realize they could be so big."

Really, if he hadn't tried initiating conversation, Karolina probably would've done it for him. She was too excited to stay quiet.

"I know!" she said. "Kinda not something you could keep as a pet, right?"

"Definitely not," Alec agreed. Then-- "I guess we should hope the island doesn't take that as a cue to give us a bunch of them."

Karolina chuckled a little bit. "Well, I don't know, it could be fun?" she said with an easy shrug. "But, I don't know how we'd care for them. What do they even eat?"
nottrivial: (conv: slight down)

"I... don't even know that." So please, Fandom. Refrain. "Plus any one of these would take up half my dorm room."
solarhippie: ([neu] You said something?)

"Maybe you could keep them at the beach," Karolina mused, tapping a fingertip against her chin. "But I guess they need a warmer climate than Fandom's going to be offering soon."
nottrivial: (neg: yeah i don't like how this is going)

"Ugh, right." Ew, winter weather. "That's one of the things I wouldn't mind importing back from here."
solarhippie: ([neu] Do you need advice?)

"Me neither," Karolina sighed. Californian and solarpowered wasn't the greatest combo for Fandom. "I'm not sure snow is really going to be for me."

Though snowball fights seemed like they could potentially be fun.
nottrivial: (neu: sometimes i say the wrong things)

"Yeah, it's not really my favorite thing to deal with," Alec said. "You mentioned you were from somewhere in California, right? Do you get any snow at all there?"
solarhippie: ([pos] Free spirit.)

"Well I'm from Los Angeles, so... Not a whole lot." But she'd always been fine with warmer eather so she really couldn't complain. "No real snowmen in my childhood."
nottrivial: (?: you thinking what i'm thinking?)

"There weren't any in mine either," Alec offered. "But I used to see mun-- uh, kids building them in the park and they looked like more trouble than they're worth."

Of course he thought so.

Karolina wasn't going to ask about that little slip-up there, far more interested in the matter at hand.

"Really?" she asked, tilting her head. "I always thought it looked pretty fun."
nottrivial: (neu: confiding)

"I don't know, it just seemed like snow got everywhere and everyone wound up getting cold hands pretty quickly," said Alec. "And it wasn't as though you could keep it, the parks being public spaces and all."

Seriously, he was so allergic to fun. It was tragic.
solarhippie: ([neu] Ummm...)

Sigh.

It was also a bit incomprehensible to Karolina. "I guess it's just fun to make one," she volunteered. "You know, just fun in itself?"
nottrivial: (neu: curiously surprised)

"I guess," Alec said dubiously. "It wouldn't be my first choice, but if you say so."
