Singita Boulders Lodge, South Africa, Monday [Morning and Early Afternoon]

The sun rose over the lodge in a stunning display of colors ~~though without the musical accompaniment~~ at way too early in the morning, but everyone was up anyway, right? It was time for the very first game drive around the park, and an early start was necessary to see the animals at the watering holes.

Fortunately in a lodge this nice, coffee was provided.

Good morning, Fandom! It's only 63 degrees (or 17, if you're a local) as you wake up, so bring a jacket along with your hat, camera, water and binoculars (and all the sunscreen--trust us) on the drive, but it'll warm up to a comfortable 79 (or26) by midafternoon. Ready to see some lions?

"How about a tiny little meerkat?" Olive asked, trying to see if she could spot a wee bitty meerkat, now that she'd brought them up. "They're teeny."

She was mostly kidding, but still.

"Maybe a stuffed one?" she suggested.

"Or like a real one," Olive suggested conversationally.

"I will move in with Jessica," she warned.

"Fiiine, no meerkat friends," Olive sighed. "Even though they're super-cute, and you're gonna be really sad once you realize just how cute."

"Do I really seem the type to be swayed by that?" Sia pointed out.

"You seem human, so yes," Olive replied.

"I am, but no," Sia told her.

"Clearly you just hare joy," Olive said dramatically. "It's very sad."

"Meerkats are joy now?" she asked.

"It's like you don't even know what a meerkat is," Olive said. "Obviously they are joy. They're tiny little...meerkat-sized pods of happiness."

"That's not very helpful," Sia pointed out.

"But it's true," Olive assured her. "And if you let me bring one home, you'd learn that."

"And what would Ally think?" Logic.

"She would welcome her new friend." Defiance of that logic.

"Didn't your dog also try chasing squirrels along with mine?" More logic.

"She would teach these civilized ways to your dog, as well." Logic times infinity.
